Book excerpt: When the charismatic founder/leader of a religious movement dies, the popular belief is that the movement usually disintegrates. However, many new religions not only survive but prosper, despite leadership transition. In this book, prominent scholars examine what happened to eleven new movements following the deaths of their leaders, and why. An Introduction by J. Gordon Melton serves to integrate the case studies.
Book Synopsis The Elder Brother by : Gregory Tillett
Download or read book The Elder Brother written by Gregory Tillett and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-01-29 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A leading figure in the Theosophical Society, Leadbeater was a prolific author, writing on subjects ranging from Buddhism, Masonic history and the origins of Christianity through to the power of thought and the fourth dimension. Leadbeater was also the force behind Annie Besant, the discoverer and educator if Krishnamurti, and became Presiding Bishop of the Liberal Catholic Church. For all his influence Charles Leadbeater remains largely unknown as a man. This biography, first published in 1982, dispels many of the mysteries surrounding his life, and Leadbeater emerges as neither evil degenerate or infallible saint, but as a complex and eccentric adventurer into the realm of the occult. This title will be of particular interest to students of history and theology.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Search Of Paradise is the saga of courage, resilience and resistance of the daredevils of Gujarat, India. The Kharvas, Bhatias, Lohanas, Patels, Baniyas and people from many other communities sailed in search of paradise when India was battling through severe famine and Cholera epidemic. Surviving the stormy seas, the attacks from the sea pirates, the attacks of the wild animals, the barbaric attacks from the natives of the then uncivilized dark country, through sheer determination, they settled down, trained the natives to the civilized ways and prospered. Sometimes a single Indian opened his shop in the untrodden upcountry, attracted and taught the ways of the world to the native people who were like unplowed earth. The author was born and brought up in Tanzania, taught at a girl’s school and is an eyewitness of the development of the country. She remembers how during the Second World War the German East Africa was attacked and captured by the British renaming it the British East Africa. The stories in the book are authentic and told either by surviving early emigrants or their family members. The author interviewed them and collected the stories during her visits to Dar-es-Salaam.
