With a population of around 45 million people, Argentina is home to a mix of indigenous communities, European immigrants, and descendants of African slaves. Argentina has a varied landscape, with the Andes mountain range to the west, the Pampas region - fertile grasslands - in the central part of the country, and the Atlantic coastline on the east. It is also home to several natural wonders, including the Iguazu Falls and the Perito Moreno glacier. Buenos Aires, the capital city, is known for its vibrant culture and iconic landmarks such as the Obelisk, the Teatro Colon, and the Casa Rosada - the presidential palace. Argentina's economy is driven by agriculture, with crops such as soybeans, wheat, and corn being major exports. Other significant industries include mining, manufacturing, and tourism.

Book Synopsis The British Textile Trade in South America in the Nineteenth Century by : Manuel Llorca-Jaña
Download or read book The British Textile Trade in South America in the Nineteenth Century written by Manuel Llorca-Jaña and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2012-06-18 with total page 409 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first work on British textile exports to South America during the nineteenth century. During this period, textiles ranked among the most important manufactures traded in the world market and Britain was the foremost producer. Thanks to new data, this book demonstrates that British exports to South America were transacted at very high rates during the first decades after independence. This development was due to improvements in the packing of textiles; decreasing costs of production and introduction of free trade in Britain; falling ocean freight rates, marine insurance and import duties in South America; dramatic improvements in communications; and the introduction of better port facilities. Manuel Llorca-Jaña explores the marketing chain of textile exports to South America and sheds light on South Americans' consumer behaviour. This book contains the most comprehensive database on Anglo-South American trade during the nineteenth century and fills an important gap in the historiography.

Book excerpt: The Cambridge History of Latin America is a large scale, collaborative, multi-volume history of Latin America during the five centuries from the first contacts between Europeans and the native peoples of the Americas in the late fifteenth and early sixteenth centuries to the present. Latin America: Economy and Society since 1930 brings together chapters from Parts 1 and 2 of Volume VI of The Cambridge History to provide a complete survey of the Latin American economies since 1930. This, it is hoped, will be useful for both teachers and students of Latin American history and of contemporary Latin America. Each chapter is accompanied by a bibliographical essay.
