Written by an alumnus of the college, the series examines the continuing efforts of Saint Finbarrs College Old Boys Association to enliven the story of the institution and includes stories from numerous alumni who recall Father Slattery with fondness. The Rev. It is a book of historical legacy of the school, with a long-term reputation for academic excellence, student discipline, and soccer superiority. The focus of this book is to salute, recognize, and celebrate the special group of Students, the athletes, particularly the soccer players. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper generally lends support to the arguments advanced by Awonusi (1989, 1990, 2004) and others in favour of an endornormative as opposed to an exonormative standard for English pronunciation in Nigeria. They include the fact that the existing, exonormative standard, British Received Pronunciation (RP), has undergone and is still undergoing changes in its homeland, and is not homogeneous. The heightened social mobility of today’s world perhaps works against the demarcation and homogenization of language varieties, and this is all the more true of the varieties or lects that have been proposed for Nigerian English when these are related, more or less explicitly, to educational attainment. Major attention is given in the paper to a schema of basilect, mesolect, and acrolect presented by Ugorji (2010), with a focus on his account of vowels and his presentation of a mechanism derived from optimality theory for evaluating vowels in contention. The basilect and the mesolect are found to be so close to each other that they might be combined. There would then be just two varieties. In contrast, the acrolect is close to British RP, albeit with many variants due to the conflict of two standardising forces, i.e. British RP and the basilect-mesolect. The vowel system of an officially adopted endonormative standard – ‘Nigerian RP’ – would mainly be the same as that of British RP, but the optimality mechanism could be employed to give preference to some of the Nigerian variants for inclusion in it.

Download or read book Heffo - A Brilliant Mind written by Liam Hayes and published by Random House. This book was released on 2013-09-26 with total page 385 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Kevin Heffernan was a giant amongst GAA men. A giant with a brilliant mind who repeatedly warned everybody that he would not let his own mother get in the way of him winning one more game of football. Heffo was deeply admired and absolutely feared like no other. And like no other manager in the history of the GAA, his strength of mind and brutal toughness as a leader raised an army that was called his own – Heffo’s Army. Heffo: A Brilliant Mind tells the Kevin Heffernan story for the first time. It’s the story of a boy with the biggest dreams, and a man who lived with triumphs and the greatest regrets. It’s the story of a club, and how Heffo and St Vincent’s GAA club revolutionized the game of Gaelic football and changed the face of Dublin football forever. It’s the story, too, of a great war. Heffo: A Brilliant Mind dramatically re-enacts the battles that Kevin Heffernan fought over four decades as a footballer and a manager in a long and punishing war with Kerry. A war waged by one man with the courage and fearlessness of a true giant.

Her mom dies while she is three due to domestic terror occasioned by the culture of marital rivalries. Her auntie decides to adopt her. Terrere slides into the lust battle caused by her aunties husband. Uncle deflowers her at a tender age, leading to the duo committing clandestinely feticide. With the help of the computer and Internet, Terrere enrolls in e-study in the evolution of terrorism, packaged by an anonymous instructor (AI). While AI prods Terrere cerebrally, Uncle snubs her for refusing to be made a sexual slave. Terrere engages in private lessons in terrorism. She surges on and obtains a degree. Uncle sends threat/love letter to Terreres box pseudonymously. She detects the plot and leaves the house, having been employed timely. Terrere is kidnapped but released through divine help. The anonymous instructor takes her through the meaning and scope of terrorism. What sustained terrorism for two thousand years? What is psycho-terrorism? Whatll happen if terrorists seize dirty flukes? Of what use is counterterrorism strategy? Whats deradicalization process? Other lessons follow. Terrere isnt deterred by the early violation of her sexual and human rights. * * * * * * * Terreres Universe is a great historical novel, crafted in the tradition of Platonic dialogue, gliding on the lane of creative synergy. Its recommended for conflict managers, politicians, students of all classes, national security experts, researchers, and preferred readers. The book is a sui generis, written in an easy-to-read fashion, thus making asymmetrical warfare (terrorism) a seeming thing of pleasure (TOURICOM Journal).
