The scheme of classification of the songs are given in two charts. The index of the songs is given in Sanskrit and English. Its preface and introductory thesis (two thirds of the book) is authored by V. Raghavan. S. Radhakrishnan, who was then the vice-president of India, has written the foreword. Ramanujachariar was an administrator, actor, musician and primarily a spiritual seeker. He was well known as the Secretary of the Ramakrishna Mission Students Home, Chennai. V. Raghavan was a Sanskrit scholar and musicologist. A recipient of the Padma Bhushan, he has authored over 120 books. The book is a treat to English-knowing readers who wish to familiarise themselves with the immortal songs of Tyagaraja which present lofty truths in simple and appealing language. Book excerpt: The Bible is Gods inspired revelation to His people, and it is His enduring truth. Yet it can also be difficult for us to sometimes recognize how Gods revealed truths are relevant for us todayand even for all time. Especially when it comes to Old Testament scriptures, how can we focus our faithand apply what we know today in the modern worldand discover the relevance and truth of these scriptures in a personal way? In Genesis: A Modern-Day Commentary, author Judith Folse presents the story of Genesis as the first part of the whole story of Gods plan of redemption for humankind, but she relates the subject matter of Genesis to New Testament themes that focus on the relationship between God and humanity. In an easy-to-read style, this commentary illuminates the ancient problems of sin and violence that still affect us today, and it is intended for people of all faiths with a reverence for the Old Testament. No matter your level of familiarity with the book of Genesis, approaching it in a new way will likewise renew your understanding of how timeless and relevant the Word of God is today. By identifying your common connection to the rest of humanity through biblical illustrations, you will not only recognize the ancient themes relevant to modern-day issues of world peace and human violenceyou will also discover or rediscover the truth of Gods revealed, eternal words.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Arnold Toynbee's A Study of History has been acknowledged as one of the greatest achievements of modern scholarship. A ten-volume analysis of the rise and fall of human civilizations, it is a work of breath-taking breadth and vision. D.C. Somervell's abridgement, in two volumes, of this magnificent enterprise, preserves the method, atmosphere, texture, and, in many instances, the very words of the original. Originally published in 1947 and 1957, these two volumes are themselves a great historical achievement. Volume 1, which abridges the first six volumes of Toynbee's study, includes the Introduction, The Geneses of Civilizations, and The Disintegrations of Civilizations. Volume 2, an abridgement of Volumes VII-X, includes sections on Universal States, Universal churches, Heroic Ages, Contacts Between Civilizations in Space, Contacts Between Civilizations in Time, Law and Freedom in History, The Prospects of the Western Civilization, and the Conclusion. Of Somervell's work, Toynbee wrote, "The reader now has at his command a uniform abridgement of the whole book, made by a clear mind that has not only mastered the contents but has entered into the writer's outlook and purpose."

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Spring issue of Nectar of Nondual Truth is duly and devoutly dedicated to sacrifice and spiritual disciplines. How do these two timeless principles relate to each other? In many ways, but the three most obvious are on cosmic, collective and individual levels of existence. It is the last of these that is the focus of Nectar’s philosophical and religious spotlight herein, for in the personalized body/mind mechanism lies all the secrets for divine life and realization of our inherent perfection. Many do not believe in the innate divinity of mankind. Some are verily antagonistic to the very idea. Others, who have even allowed such a sententious thought room in their minds, only default to a position of eternal separation wherein they admit human beings capable of doing good but judge them all intrinsically fallible by nature. Thus they conceive human beings as ever disparate or dissimilar with God, who is perceived as being somewhere outside of them or, at best, only occasionally entering into the human condition under miraculous conditions. Thankfully, there are also the nondualists, who have experienced indivisible Awareness within themselves and have rendered even this universe blissful by gazing through the “Single Eye of Truth.” Jesus of Nazareth was one such, stating, “I and my Father are One.” Out of the antiquitous Treta Yuga, Sri Ram was another: “The embodied being is actually all-pervading and endless. It is one without a second, unaffected by anything, eternal, pure, and of the nature of Consciousness.” Lord Buddha of India took the nondual view: “Freed from reckoning by the material shape, feeling, perception, or consciousness, is the Tathagata; he is deep, immeasurable, unfathomable, as is the great ocean.” From among the greatest of Christian mystics, Meister Eckhart explains: “Those who would see God must see as God sees.” More currently, Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa of Bengal states: “When the mind merges in Brahman the individual soul and the Supreme Soul become one. The aspirant goes into samadhi. His consciousness of the body and knowledge of the world disappears. He does not behold the many anymore. His reasoning stops.” Included in the pages of Nectar’s Spring issue are articles to inspire us on towards practice and attainment of all things noble that we cherish and seek after. From unassailable truths to heartfelt devotions, from fervid aspirations to unwavering probity, from refined emotions to words of well-considered reformation, from sedulous and sincere striving to the selfless sacrifice it entails — it is all here in Nectar. May all beings imbibe the nectar of nonduality, and feel the salubrious effects of its revivifying presence.
