Book excerpt: Klezmer is the first comprehensive study of the musical structure and social history of klezmer music--the music of Jewish musicians' guild of Eastern Europe. Author Walter Zev Feldman includes major written sources, as well as interviews with European-born klezmorim, conducted over a period of more than thirty years. Including musical analysis, Feldman draws upon the foundational collections of the late Tsarist and early Soviet periods, plus rare klezmer and cantorial manuscripts.
Book Synopsis The Clarinet Choir by : Friedrich K. Pfatschbacher
Download or read book The Clarinet Choir written by Friedrich K. Pfatschbacher and published by tredition. This book was released on 2017-12-05 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I am very pleased to present a new edition of this book first published in 2005. I have taken the opportunity to include various suggestions and developments in the last ten years. Many new clarinet choirs have been established around the world during this time both in the cultural sector and as training ensembles. This last fact should not however detract from the fact that the clarinet choir as a medium is generally becoming more popular and is emerging as a permanent feature of the concert life in many countries. In the course of giving concerts at home and abroad with my own ensemble, the Austrian Clarinet Choir, I have had the opportunity of getting to know many new arrangements and original works, gaining new inspiration and learning to appreciate the rich possibilities the Clarinet Choir offers. These days, its tonal palette is not only evident to us connoisseurs. In recent times, the public has started to appreciate the scoring of this unique ensemble ranging from the now well-known E flat clarinet down to the Contrabass Clarinet. While I have seen increased interest in the genre in the course of delivering lectures on the subject in Europe, the USA, Latin- and South America, South Africa... it has become apparent that there is hardly any literature on the subject, so it was obviously important to me to have the book translated into English and Spanish and to include as much new information and additional research as I could.
Book Synopsis Jüdische Kunstmusik im 20. Jahrhundert by : Jascha Nemtsov
Download or read book Jüdische Kunstmusik im 20. Jahrhundert written by Jascha Nemtsov and published by Otto Harrassowitz Verlag. This book was released on 2006 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book Jewish Identities written by Klara Moricz and published by Univ of California Press. This book was released on 2008-02-05 with total page 468 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jewish Identities mounts a formidable challenge to prevailing essentialist assumptions about "Jewish music," which maintain that ethnic groups, nations, or religious communities possess an essence that must manifest itself in art created by members of that group. Klára Móricz scrutinizes concepts of Jewish identity and reorders ideas about twentieth-century "Jewish music" in three case studies: first, Russian Jewish composers of the first two decades of the twentieth century; second, the Swiss American Ernest Bloch; and third, Arnold Schoenberg. Examining these composers in the context of emerging Jewish nationalism, widespread racial theories, and utopian tendencies in modernist art and twentieth-century politics, Móricz describes a trajectory from paradigmatic nationalist techniques, through assumptions about the unintended presence of racial essences, to an abstract notion of Judaism.
