He was an intelligent American citizen and Korean war veteran, who claimed his right of American citizenship. Acutely aware of the broken promises of the US government, he remained fully invested in the rights, privileges, and responsibilities the Constitution guaranteed all of its citizens. As many of his contemporaries now confess, Williams’s strength and appeal, as explained by his second son, John Williams, was his uncompromising stance and determination to act on the American dream he imagined for social, economic, and political equality for African Americans. The skills he acquired as a journalist and propaganda specialist were key to his political development, evolution, and transnational collaborations with Cuba and China, which he used to challenge domestic policies in the United States, were way beyond the imagination of his supporters in the United States. Williams ultimately used these strengths, strategies, and collaborations to deliver liberting messages of freedom, resistance, and social and economic equality on behalf of the rights of African Americans. Williams significantly contributed to the Black freedom struggle and should not be forgotten. Robert Franklin Williams Speaks: A Documentary History includes a collection of interviews, speeches, and writings by and about Williams as an internationalist, pragmatist, and civil and human rights champion.

Book excerpt: Flip books tell two sides of favorite stories! Now children can read classic tales from two different perspectives. The traditional hero's story is on one side of the book; the same story from another character's viewpoint is on the flip side. Well-loved folktales are even more enjoyable when examined in a new light. The Sheriff of Nottingham claims he was trying to establish law and order by ending Robin Hood's reign of terror. But the murderous band of robbers showed him no respect.

Book excerpt: A young attorney is defending her client in a racially charged felony case -- but in a town of old money and hidden secrets, her first trial may be her last in this #1 New York Times bestselling legal thriller. Ruby Bozarth, a newcomer to Rosedale, Mississippi, is also fresh to the State Bar -- and to the docket of Circuit Judge Baylor, who taps Ruby as defense counsel. The murder of a woman from one of the town's oldest families has Rosedale's upper crust howling for blood, and the prosecutor is counting on Ruby's inexperience to help him deliver a swift conviction. Ruby's client is a college football star who has returned home after a career-ending injury, and she is determined to build a defense that will stick. She finds help in unexpected quarters from Suzanne, a hard-charging attorney armed to the teeth, and Shorty, a diner cook who knows more than he lets on. Ruby never belonged to the country club set, but once she nearly married into it. As news breaks of a second murder, Ruby's ex-fiancé shows up on her doorstep -- a Southern gentleman in need of a savior. As lurid, intertwining investigations unfold, no one in Rosedale can be trusted, especially the twelve men and women impaneled on the jury. They may be hiding the most incendiary secret of all.

Book excerpt: An Amish sweets contest is interrupted when a bitter rivalry turns deadly in this cozy mystery by the Agatha Award-winning author of Criminally Cocoa. Harvest, Ohio, is a long way from New York City, where Bailey King left a coveted job as a chocolatier to take over Swissmen Sweets, her grandparents’ Amish candy shop. She wants to honor her grandfather’s memory, but she may be biting off more than she can chew when she enters the annual Amish Confectionery Competition. Between cooking up lavender blueberry fudge and chocolate cherry ganache truffles, Bailey’s search for a missing pot-bellied pig leads her to a dead body. Josephine Weaver, an Amish candy maker who wanted Bailey disqualified for being an Englischer, died from a licorice allergy. Now Bailey finds herself topping the list of murder suspects, along with Josephine’s niece, a young woman going through her rumspringa. Now it falls to Bailey, who’s sweet on the local sheriff’s deputy, to clear both their names and catch a killer with a cast-iron stomach for cold-blooded murder… Recipe Included!
