Download or read book Buying for the Home written by David E. Hussey and published by Ashgate Publishing, Ltd.. This book was released on 2008 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Buying for the Home examines how strategies of retailers were both arbitrated by, and negotiated through the actions and desires of the homemaker as a consumer in early-modern, modern and post-modern society. Drawing on a wide selection of interdisciplinary work from established scholars and new researchers, the volume is organised around four key themes: retail arenas and the everyday; identity and lifestyle; fashioning domestic space; and cultural practice. Through ten linked case studies, Buying for the Home forces us to consider the fractured space that existed between the world of goods and the middle- and working-class home.

Book Synopsis Servants of Culture by : Ambika Natarajan

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In nineteenth century Cisleithanian Austria, poor, working-class women underwent mass migrations from the countryside to urban centers for menial or unskilled labor jobs. Through legal provisions on women’s work in the Habsburg Empire, there was an increase in the policing and surveillance of what was previously a gender-neutral career, turning it into one dominated by thousands of female rural migrants. Servants of Culture provides an account of Habsburg servant law since the eighteenth century and uncovers the paternalistic and maternalistic assumptions and anxieties which turned the interest of socio-political players in improving poor living and working conditions into practices that created restrictive gender and class hierarchies. Through pioneering analysis of the agendas of medical experts, police, socialists, feminists, legal reformers, and even serial killers, this volume puts forth a neglected history of the state of domestic service discourse at the turn of the 19th century and how it shaped and continues to shape the surveillance of women.
Book Synopsis The Good Neighbour: Volume 5, The Official History of Australian Peacekeeping, Humanitarian and Post-Cold War Operations by : Bob Breen
Download or read book The Good Neighbour: Volume 5, The Official History of Australian Peacekeeping, Humanitarian and Post-Cold War Operations written by Bob Breen and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2016-07-15 with total page 1474 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Good Neighbour explores the Australian government's efforts to support peace in the Pacific Islands from 1980 to 2006. It tells the story of the deployment of Australian diplomatic, military and policing resources at a time when neighbouring governments were under pressure from political violence and civil unrest. The main focus of this volume is Australian peacemaking and peacekeeping in response to the Bougainville Crisis, a secessionist rebellion that began in late 1988 with the sabotage of a major mining operation. Following a signed peace agreement in 2001, the crisis finally ended in December 2005, under the auspices of the United Nations. During this time Australia's involvement shifted from behind-the-scenes peacemaking, to armed peacekeeping intervention, and finally to a longer-term unarmed regional peacekeeping operation. Granted full access to all relevant government files, Bob Breen recounts the Australian story from decisions made in Canberra to the planning and conduct of operations.
Book Synopsis Citizen Me, Servant of the Most High by : Raymond Burks
Download or read book Citizen Me, Servant of the Most High written by Raymond Burks and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2023-02-09 with total page 142 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book Citizen Me, Servant of the Most High emphasizes service to our magistrate, the Most High God. It acknowledges that as Christians, we must accept that we are citizens of the kingdom of God and that we all serve the Lord of that kingdom. It visits concepts that challenge the average human being, no matter their perspective. It analyzes the ideals that challenge the act of servitude-obstacles, objections, and rebellion. It motivates concepts, suggestions, and directives from scripture that enhances the servant's attitude and performance. It further emphasizes the benefits, prestige, and authority provided by the Most High whom you serve. It identifies some of the earthly reward, along with the eventual blessed hope, to be enjoyed for eternity. It is obvious that all citizens in the kingdom of God are obligated to bring pleasure, glory, and honor to the Most High. You are created for His pleasure and given special talents, callings, and assignments from the Most High Himself. Some talents, callings, and assignments are universal, while others are specific and directed individually at you. He planned that you would be fruitful in service to Him. When you are not producing for the Most High, you are not living up to your potential. The Holy Bible is the foundation that supports this commentary. Prepare yourself to be a better servant, a servant of the Most High.
