Download or read book The Selberg Trace Formula for PSL_2(R)^n written by Isaac Y. Efrat and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1987 with total page 121 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We evaluate the Selberg trace formula for all discrete, irreducible, cofinite subgroups of PSL2 ([double-struck capital]R)[italic superscript]n. In particular, this involves studying the spectral theory of the fundamental domain, and the analysis of the appropriate Eisenstein series. A special role is played by the Hilbert modular groups, both because of their relation to the general case, stemming from a rigidity theorem, and their inherent algebraic number theoretic interest.

This book was released on 2009-01-21 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors prove a general form of the sum formula $\mathrm{SL}_2$ over a totally real number field. This formula relates sums of Kloosterman sums to products of Fourier coefficients of automorphic representations. The authors give two versions: the spectral sum formula (in short: sum formula) and the Kloosterman sum formula. They have the independent test function in the spectral term, in the sum of Kloosterman sums, respectively.

Book excerpt: Number Theory, Trace Formulas and Discrete Groups: Symposium in Honor of Atle Selberg Oslo, Norway, July 14-21, 1987 is a collection of papers presented at the 1987 Selberg Symposium, held at the University of Oslo. This symposium contains 30 lectures that cover the significant contribution of Atle Selberg in the field of mathematics. This book is organized into three parts encompassing 29 chapters. The first part presents a brief introduction to the history and developments of the zeta-function. The second part contains lectures on Selberg's considerable research studies on understanding the principles of several aspects of mathematics, including in modular forms, the Riemann zeta function, analytic number theory, sieve methods, discrete groups, and trace formula. The third part is devoted to Selberg's further research works on these topics, with particular emphasis on their practical applications. Some of these research studies, including the integral representations of Einstein series and L-functions; first eigenvalue for congruence groups; the zeta function of a Kleinian group; and the Waring's problem are discussed. This book will prove useful to mathematicians, researchers, and students.
Book Synopsis Casimir Force, Casimir Operators and the Riemann Hypothesis by : Gerrit Dijk
Download or read book Casimir Force, Casimir Operators and the Riemann Hypothesis written by Gerrit Dijk and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2010-10-19 with total page 295 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the proceedings of the conference "Casimir Force, Casimir Operators and the Riemann Hypothesis – Mathematics for Innovation in Industry and Science" held in November 2009 in Fukuoka (Japan). The motive for the conference was the celebration of the 100th birthday of Casimir and the 150th birthday of the Riemann hypothesis. The conference focused on the following topics: Casimir operators in harmonic analysis and representation theory Number theory, in particular zeta functions and cryptography Casimir force in physics and its relation with nano-science Mathematical biology Importance of mathematics for innovation in industry The latter topic was inspired both by the call for innovation in industry worldwide and by the fact that Casimir, who was the director of Philips research for a long time in his career, had an outspoken opinion on the importance of fundamental science for industry. These proceedings are of interest both to research mathematicians and to those interested in the role science, and in particular mathematics, can play in innovation in industry.
Download or read book Spectral Geometry written by Alex Barnett and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2012 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the proceedings of the International Conference on Spectral Geometry, held July 19-23, 2010, at Dartmouth College, Dartmouth, New Hampshire. Eigenvalue problems involving the Laplace operator on manifolds have proven to be a consistently fertile area of geometric analysis with deep connections to number theory, physics, and applied mathematics. Key questions include the measures to which eigenfunctions of the Laplacian on a Riemannian manifold condense in the limit of large eigenvalue, and the extent to which the eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of a manifold encode its geometry. In this volume, research and expository articles, including those of the plenary speakers Peter Sarnak and Victor Guillemin, address the flurry of recent progress in such areas as quantum unique ergodicity, isospectrality, semiclassical measures, the geometry of nodal lines of eigenfunctions, methods of numerical computation, and spectra of quantum graphs. This volume also contains mini-courses on spectral theory for hyperbolic surfaces, semiclassical analysis, and orbifold spectral geometry that prepared the participants, especially graduate students and young researchers, for conference lectures.
Book Synopsis Arithmetic Groups and Their Generalizations by : Lizhen Ji
Download or read book Arithmetic Groups and Their Generalizations written by Lizhen Ji and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2008 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In one guise or another, many mathematicians are familiar with certain arithmetic groups, such as $\mathbf{Z}$ or $\textrm{SL}(n, \mathbf{Z})$. Yet, many applications of arithmetic groups and many connections to other subjects within mathematics are less well known. Indeed, arithmetic groups admit many natural and important generalizations. The purpose of this expository book is to explain, through some brief and informal comments and extensive references, what arithmetic groups and their generalizations are, why they are important to study, and how they can be understood and applied to many fields, such as analysis, geometry, topology, number theory, representation theory, and algebraic geometry. It is hoped that such an overview will shed a light on the important role played by arithmetic groups in modern mathematics. Titles in this series are co-published with International Press, Cambridge, MA.Table of Contents: Introduction; General comments on references; Examples of basic arithmetic groups; General arithmetic subgroups and locally symmetric spaces; Discrete subgroups of Lie groups and arithmeticity of lattices in Lie groups; Different completions of $\mathbb{Q}$ and $S$-arithmetic groups over number fields; Global fields and $S$-arithmetic groups over function fields; Finiteness properties of arithmetic and $S$-arithmetic groups; Symmetric spaces, Bruhat-Tits buildings and their arithmetic quotients; Compactifications of locally symmetric spaces; Rigidity of locally symmetric spaces; Automorphic forms and automorphic representations for general arithmetic groups; Cohomology of arithmetic groups; $K$-groups of rings of integers and $K$-groups of group rings; Locally homogeneous manifolds and period domains; Non-cofinite discrete groups, geometrically finite groups; Large scale geometry of discrete groups; Tree lattices; Hyperbolic groups; Mapping class groups and outer automorphism groups of free groups; Outer automorphism group of free groups and the outer spaces; References; Index. Review from Mathematical Reviews: ...the author deserves credit for having done the tremendous job of encompassing every aspect of arithmetic groups visible in today's mathematics in a systematic manner; the book should be an important guide for some time to come.(AMSIP/43.

Book Synopsis Automorphic Forms and L-Functions for the Group GL(n,R) by : Dorian Goldfeld
Download or read book Automorphic Forms and L-Functions for the Group GL(n,R) written by Dorian Goldfeld and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2006-08-03 with total page 65 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: L-functions associated to automorphic forms encode all classical number theoretic information. They are akin to elementary particles in physics. This book provides an entirely self-contained introduction to the theory of L-functions in a style accessible to graduate students with a basic knowledge of classical analysis, complex variable theory, and algebra. Also within the volume are many new results not yet found in the literature. The exposition provides complete detailed proofs of results in an easy-to-read format using many examples and without the need to know and remember many complex definitions. The main themes of the book are first worked out for GL(2,R) and GL(3,R), and then for the general case of GL(n,R). In an appendix to the book, a set of Mathematica functions is presented, designed to allow the reader to explore the theory from a computational point of view.

Book Synopsis Cohomological Theory of Dynamical Zeta Functions by : Andreas Juhl
Download or read book Cohomological Theory of Dynamical Zeta Functions written by Andreas Juhl and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 712 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dynamical zeta functions are associated to dynamical systems with a countable set of periodic orbits. The dynamical zeta functions of the geodesic flow of lo cally symmetric spaces of rank one are known also as the generalized Selberg zeta functions. The present book is concerned with these zeta functions from a cohomological point of view. Originally, the Selberg zeta function appeared in the spectral theory of automorphic forms and were suggested by an analogy between Weil's explicit formula for the Riemann zeta function and Selberg's trace formula ([261]). The purpose of the cohomological theory is to understand the analytical properties of the zeta functions on the basis of suitable analogs of the Lefschetz fixed point formula in which periodic orbits of the geodesic flow take the place of fixed points. This approach is parallel to Weil's idea to analyze the zeta functions of pro jective algebraic varieties over finite fields on the basis of suitable versions of the Lefschetz fixed point formula. The Lefschetz formula formalism shows that the divisors of the rational Hassc-Wcil zeta functions are determined by the spectra of Frobenius operators on l-adic cohomology.
