Book excerpt: New York Times bestselling author Jennifer Probst brings her signature witty, sexy, heartfelt style to the romances in the wildly popular Searching For series! In Searching for Someday, Kate Seymour has a smashing success with Kinnections, the matchmaking service she owns with her two best friends. But Kate’s more than a savvy businesswoman: She’s gifted with a secret power, a jolting touch that signals when love’s magic is at work. When Slade Montgomery, the hot-tempered—and hot-bodied—divorce lawyer storms into Kinnections demands proof that playing Cupid won’t destroy his vulnerable sister, Kate’s newest client, the only way to convince this cynic that she’s no fraud is for Kate to meet his challenge: find his dream woman. Can Kate keep their relationship strictly business when her attraction nearly knocks her off her feet? Searching for Perfect tells the story of another Kinnection’s founder, Kennedy Ashe. A coach and cheerleader rolled into one sizzling package, Kennedy creates dream dates, encourages singles to shine, and never refuses a challenge—not even her new client, Nate Ellison Raymond Dunkle, nerd extraordinaire. Kennedy vows to transform this hot mess into the most wanted man on the dating scene. When she realizes she and Nate are cut from the same cloth and might be perfect together, can Kennedy learn to let her heart lead the way? In Searching for Beautiful, Genevieve MacKenzie has her life completely under control—until an escape through the church window on the day of her wedding sends her life into a tailspin and flings her right into her best friend’s arms. He whisks her away, determined to watch over her and discover the truth behind her desperate escape. But when his feelings turn more than platonic, he realizes he may risk it all in order to protect the woman he loves. It’s time for the third founder of Kinnections’ happily-ever-after in Searching for Always: she’s an expert in helping others de-stress, but Arilyn Meadows is running on fumes. Along with her job counseling singles seeking soul mates at the Kinnections agency, she’s a yoga teacher, animal shelter volunteer, and therapist. But when police officer Stone Petty—radiating masculinity and attitude—is sent to her for mandatory lessons in cooling off when the job gets too hot, Arilyn vows to ignore his seductive glances and sexy grin. But there’s no halting their sizzling flirtation—a red-hot, high-speed chase that’s breaking all the limits. In Genevieve’s sister Isabella’s story, Searching for Disaster, when she tries to move on from her disastrous past, Officer William Devine is determined to show her that love is the only way to heal. Finally, get cozy with Searching for You, where high-powered CEO Riley Fox and playboy billionaire Dylan McCrae get stranded in a snowstorm, and sparks will fly if they can make it through the night together!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At the core of this book is a series of 'state of the art' experiments in which the author participated, designed to establish whether certain classical ideas about true collection could be scientifically proved. Discussion of the results leads into an exploration of how working towards collection informs the progression of training and the way in which the exercises are implemented. This pursuit of collection is likely to take a purer form if it is motivated by artistic values rather than by the rider's ego. In this fascinating and thoughtful book, the author urges readers to focus on their own individuality, rather than being motivated or misled by external pressures; to 'collect' or 'centre' themselves, as they work towards a similar state with their horses. A book for all serious riders who seek to align the physical and artistic elements of their training. Of great interest to all riders of all abilities, particularly those involved with dressage. Fully illustrated with a 4-page colour section.

This book was released on 2024 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a comprehensive presentation of a recently introduced framework, named "probabilistic indexing" (PrIx), for searching text in large collections of document images and other related applications. It fosters the development of new search engines for effective information retrieval from manuscripts which, however, lack the electronic text (transcripts) that would typically be required for such search and retrieval tasks. The book is structured into 11 chapters and three appendices. The first two chapters briefly outline the necessary fundamentals and state of the art in pattern recognition, statistical decision theory, and handwritten text recognition. Chapter 3 presents approaches for indexing (as opposed to spotting) each region of a handwritten text image which is likely to contain a word. Next, Chapter 4 describes models adopted for handwritten text in images, namely hidden Markov models, convolutional and recurrent neural networks and language models, and provides full details of weighted finite-state transducer (WFST) concepts and methods, needed in further chapters of the book. Chapter 5 explains the set of techniques and algorithms developed to generate image probabilistic indexes which allow for fast search and retrieval of textual information in the indexed images. Chapter 6 then presents experimental evaluations of the proposed framework and algorithms on different traditional benchmark datasets and compares them with other approaches, while Chapter 7 reviews the most popular keyword-spotting approaches. Chapter 8 explains how PrIx can support classical free-text search tools, while Chapter 9 presents new methods that use PrIx not only for searching, but also to deal with text analytics and other related natural language processing and information extraction tasks. Chapter 10 shows how the proposed solutions can be used to effectively index very large collections of handwritten document images, before Chapter 11 eventually summarizes the book and suggests promising lines of future research. The appendices detail the necessary mathematical foundations for the work and presents details of the text image collections and datasets used in the experiments throughout the book. This book is written for researchers and (post-)graduate students in pattern recognition and information retrieval. It will also be of interest to people in areas like history, criminology, or psychology who need technical support to evaluate, understand or decode historical or contemporary handwritten text.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The collection of Barbara and Lawrence Fleischman of New York is one of the most important private collections of ancient Greek and Roman art in the United States and among the most important in the world. Composed of approximately three hundred objects from the Bronze Age to the Late Antique, it includes bronze statuettes, marble sculpture, vases, jewelry, lamps and candelabra, keys, weights, and silver bowls and utensils. The Fleischmans have a particular fascination with pieces associated with everyday life in antiquity, since these objects evoke a human connection to the past. They are also drawn to pieces that exemplify the human propensity to transform a functional object into a thing of beauty. Not only has their emotional response to an object’s aesthetic appeal or its historical significance guided them in their forty years of collecting, personal interests have been at work as well. The large number of pieces related to the theater or representing theatrical subjects reflects Barbara Fleischman’s lifelong love of that art. A Passion for Antiquities contains photographs and extensive catalogue entries on the objects included in the exhibition at the J. Paul Getty Museum and the Cleveland Museum of Art. Eighteen contributors provide art historical and descriptive information about each piece. The objects not selected for the exhibition are detailed in a checklist that specifies their origins, dates, media, and sizes. This book is the first major reference on the entire collection, since most of the objects have never before been publicly shown. To facilitate finding specific objects or groups of objects, the book is organized first chronologically and then by medium. Bibliographic sources for each entry cite both publications where the specific work is discussed as well as references to related scholarship. Karol Wight provides a chronological overview of the collection, and Oliver Taplin relates selected pieces to the development of Greek theater. The exhibition of Barbara and Lawrence Fleischman’s collection and this catalogue allow us to enter into their minds and emotions so that, for a time, we can share their passion for antiquities.
