Book excerpt: As there are these three things in the case of man, habits, actions, and passions; habits are the department appropriated by hortatory discourse the guide to piety, which, like the ship’s keel, is laid beneath for the building up of faith; in which, rejoicing exceedingly, and abjuring our old opinions, through salvation we renew our youth, singing with the hymning prophecy, “How good is God to Israel, to such as are upright in heart!” All actions, again, are the province of preceptive discourse; while persuasive discourse applies itself to heal the passions.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ""The Bible Home Instructor"" is a classic Bible study guide, originally published in 1920. It is a compilation of Bible testimony on a multitude of Christian subjects. Each of the many biblical topics encapsulates one or more doctrinal truths, as understood and explained by the original author, Andrew N. Dugger. In 1995, I assisted ministerial author, Richard C. Nickels, in creating an updated edition of this popular Bible study guide. For all of us who participated in this project, it was a work of love. That printed version is still being sold, and oftentimes at exorbitant prices. Therefore, I have decided to publish this updated edition and sell it for the cost of printing. I also offer a free, text-only PDF through my online bookstore at http: //www.lulu.com/spotlight/KerryBarger . The PDF can be copied and shared freely among any number of people. This book can shed the precious light of God's truth into your life and the lives of all who take its teachings to heart.

Book Synopsis The Instructor by : Clement of Alexandria
Download or read book The Instructor written by Clement of Alexandria and published by . This book was released on 2012-02 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Paedagogus, The Instructor, was the second in the trilogy of Clement of Alexandria. Having laid a foundation in the knowledge of divine truth in the first book, Protrepticus (Exhortation to the Heathen), he goes on in the Paedagogus to develop a Christian ethic. The first book deals with the religious basis of Christian morality, the second and third with the individual cases of conduct. As with Epictetus, true virtue shows itself with him in its external evidences by a natural, simple, and moderate way of living. Titus Flavius Clemens, known as Clement of Alexandria, was a Christian theologian who taught at the Catechetical School of Alexandria. A convert to Christianity, he was an educated man who was familiar with classical Greek philosophy and literature. Clement was influenced by Hellenistic philosophy to a greater extent than any other Christian thinker of his time, and in particular by Plato and the Stoics.

Book excerpt: We desperately need an army of Effective Bible Teachers. What is an Effective Bible Teacher? An Effective Bible Teacher teaches so that people live according to the Bible. Effective Bible Teachers create doers of the Word and not hearers only. Effective Bible Teachers make disciples. Effective Bible Teachers result in classes that pray, people who serve, and individuals who read their Bibles and follow what it says. Effective Bible Teachers create people who love the Lord God with all their heart, soul, mind, and strength. Effective Bible Teachers lead people to know their spiritual gifts and serve according to their gifting. Effective Bible Teachers teach people to abide in Christ. Effective Bible Teachers love the people in their group. They hang out with them. They serve them. They have them in their homes. They are with them. Effective Bible Teachers lead people to love. They lead people to lay down their lives in service to others. They lead people to care. Effective Bible Teachers lead people to love the Word as they love the Word. The Psalmist said it is sweeter than honey. In another place, “Oh how I love the law.” It was not mere duty and obligation. It was delight. Effective Bible Teachers make a difference. Their classes are different because of the way they teach. Their people are different because of their influence on their lives. Their corner of the world is different because it is infected by people who are salt and light.
