It is a subdivision of behavioral neuroscience that studies the neural mechanisms of perception and behavior through direct manipulation of the brains of nonhuman animal subjects in controlled experiments. Biopsychology studies many topics relating to the body's response to a behavior or activity in an organism. It concerns the brain cells, structures, components, and chemical interactions that are involved in order to produce actions. Psychologists in this.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The psychology classic—a detailed study of scientific theories of human nature and the possible ways in which human behavior can be predicted and controlled—from one of the most influential behaviorists of the twentieth century and the author of Walden Two. “This is an important book, exceptionally well written, and logically consistent with the basic premise of the unitary nature of science. Many students of society and culture would take violent issue with most of the things that Skinner has to say, but even those who disagree most will find this a stimulating book.” —Samuel M. Strong, The American Journal of Sociology “This is a remarkable book—remarkable in that it presents a strong, consistent, and all but exhaustive case for a natural science of human behavior…It ought to be…valuable for those whose preferences lie with, as well as those whose preferences stand against, a behavioristic approach to human activity.” —Harry Prosch, Ethics

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Science of Human Behavior: Biological and Psychological Foundations The study of human phenomena must be carried on largely through the psychological and social sciences. Much of the writing in these sciences still consists of vague generalizations which have not been subjected to the test of being applied to a large number of data. What is needed above all is to carry much further the painstaking labor of accumulating a large mass of facts from which generalizations can be safely deduced. In other words, these sciences must get down to concrete realities more than they have in the past if they are to develop on a stable basis. It is the function of every science, on the one hand, to reduce as far as possible the phenomena with which it deals to the terms of the science upon which it is based, and, on the other hand, to describe the peculiar characteristics of these phenomena which distinguish them from the phenomena out of which they have evolved and which make them a fit subject for treatment by a distinct science. Thus psychical and social phenomena should be reduced as far as possible to biological terms, just as vital phenomena should be reduced as far as possible to chemical and physical terms. On the other hand, the peculiar characteristics of psychical and social phenomena should be described, just as the peculiar characteristics of vital phenomena should be described. Book Synopsis The Biological Foundations of Organizational Behavior by : Stephen M. Colarelli
Download or read book The Biological Foundations of Organizational Behavior written by Stephen M. Colarelli and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2015-01-02 with total page 373 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When biological theories were used to understand behavior in the early 20th century, they were often poorly understood. Ideas about race, ethnicity, and IQ, and notions of social Darwinism, were based on a misunderstanding and an incomplete understanding of genetics and Darwin s theory of evolution by natural selection. Now, however, a biological understanding of social behavior is an integral part of modern science, and increasingly used in the study of behavior in organizations. Yet, compared with other explanatory paradigms in organizational behavior, biological and evolutionary approaches are still relatively rare. "The Biological Foundations of Organizational Behavior" provides accessible insights for scholars and practitioners in management and organizational behavior into what biology can offer their fields. Chapters contain enough background to orient readers who may have little knowledge of biology, and provide substantive contributions to advancing understanding of specific areas of biology and human behavior in organizations. They also show how the addition of biological theory and research to organizational-behavior scholarship will increase its explanatory and predictive power and contribute to its scientific foundations."
