Book excerpt: The Royal Touch is a beautiful compilation of stunning recipes gathered from far and wide on an incredible culinary journey. It is one that has covered three continents over several decades and has taken in many a royal palace along the way. Carolyn Robb, former personal chef to TRH The Prince and Princess of Wales, Prince William and Prince Harry, presents the food that she loves to serve to her family and friends; food that is fit for a king, yet is accessible to us all. Inspired by everything from her mother's home-cooking, memories of her happy childhood in South Africa and her extensive travels to the extraordinary experiences of 13 years as a chef in the royal household, Carolyn's recipes are simple to prepare and perfect to share. Whether you are entertaining special guests, going on a picnic, planning a cosy fireside supper, cooking with children or you simply feel like trying your hand at some baking, this book has it all and the ingredients you require won't break the bank. During Carolyn's time working in the royal household she had unique access to many aspects of the culinary world and in particular some of the world's most renowned chefs, with whom she worked when she was still only in her early twenties. Welsh cuisine is famous, and becoming more famous, for their seafood, meats and cheeses in particular. They produce a unique wine, as well. Each family on the island has their own recipes for the traditional classics of Welsh cuisine, from cawl to Bara Broth and Welsh Cakes. The dishes in Wales are hearty and honest meals, made with the freshest of their seasonal ingredients. You may have heard of Welsh rarebit or Glamorgan sausages. These are reflective of a time when meat on the island was only a luxury. Many more dishes use always-abundant ingredients like laver seaweed and cockles. Welsh recipes, like the ones in this cookbook, involve the simple cooking of top quality, locally sourced ingredients. This allows the natural flavors of the foods to shine through. From their lamb, found in the salt marshes and mountains, to their ham, beef and seafood, they have a great deal to offer fans of international cuisine. This book was released on 2023-12-30 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Chip Off the Old Block and Cleaver: A Memoir, A Cookbook, A Dollop of Poetry" represents the first foray into book writing by this author; it is the completed realization of at least one of my personal pipe dreams picked off before my demise. I discovered that, during the course of writing the memoir portion, I actually had a lot of living to look back on with a semblance of pride and a fair share of variety, given my experiences as a proud Western New Yorker by birth, with an even more interesting smorgasbord of work experiences once moving REALLY upstate to Lake Placid. I became a Jersey guy upon graduation from college (in Ohio) and embraced the Garden State as my new home, and found it just as hospitable and appealing as The Empire State had been. I discovered my professional niche while working in a well-regarded private psychiatric hospital and fell in love with being part of the healing which transpired there. In the past 10+ years since full-time retirement I have endeavored to capitalize on the food funnery by writing the recipes I had collected over so many years, and spreading the wealth, as it were, to anyone who loves to cook good, unostentatious grub. I thought I might just as well add the lyrical musings amassed over the years as a cherry on the top of the recipes. The only question remaining: will people appreciate a life journal, a handful of recipes, and some fine arts literature all in the same book? That remains to be seen. Here's hoping.
