This book was released on 2024-01-02 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the last 25 years, almost 50 million hectares of primary forest have been lost due to deforestation. Numerous international initiatives such as the Bonn Challenge and the New York Declaration on Forests have set ambitious goals to restore degraded and deforested lands by 2030. Realizing global commitments on forest and landscape restoration (FLR) will require the establishment of billions of trees on millions of hectares of degraded land to address the triple crisis of biodiversity loss, climate change and failing food systems. A significant amount of FLR will require tree planting or increasing tree cover in production landscapes.
Book Synopsis Development from Within by : D. R. F. Taylor
Download or read book Development from Within written by D. R. F. Taylor and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-09-30 with total page 243 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The decade of 1980s was one of crisis for Africa. Neither African governments nor development agencies made a significant impact on the quality of life of rural people. The enormous range of contexts in Africa — social, economic, political, cultural, and environmental — limits the value of the search for universal solutions to endemic problems. First published in 1992, Development from Within examines an alternative framework, arguing for flexibility and specificity. The authors use case studies to explore the complex social relationships of power — from the household to the state. They argue for the knowledge and skill of African people and illustrate the diverse means by which men and women in rural Africa struggle to survive. This book will be a beneficial read for students and researchers of African studies, development studies, economics, and sociology.

As we confront the pressing need for inclusivity and resilience in agriculture, it becomes important to examine and celebrate the transformative influence of women. Impact of Women in Food and Agricultural Development serves as an illuminating exploration, delving into the uncharted roles that women play, from tilling the soil to navigating complex supply chains, and championing sustainable practices. It is a compelling response to the urgent call for recognizing and addressing the challenges faced by women in this crucial sector. Impact of Women in Food and Agricultural Development endeavors to shed light on the challenges women face, the triumphs they achieve, and the profound changes they instigate within the agricultural sector. Drawing on a rich tapestry of stories, data, and expert insights, this book seeks to provide a deep understanding of how women contribute to and are impacted by global agricultural development. As we navigate an era marked by climate uncertainties, technological advancements, and the urgent need for sustainable practices, understanding the dynamic role of women in agriculture is not just an academic pursuit but a crucial step towards building a more resilient and equitable future. This book was released on 2021-11-03 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Food and Nutrition Security Resilience Programme (FNS-REPRO) is the first programme of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Eastern Africa specifically designed to foster peace and food security at scale. FNS-REPRO employs a livelihood and resilience-based approach in some of the least stable regions, where interventions are normally exclusively of a humanitarian nature. Its design allows FAO and partners to set good examples of how to build food system resilience in protracted crises and strengthen cooperation across the humanitarian-development-peace nexus towards this end. This report provides the results of analyses conducted during FNS-REPRO’s inception phase in the Sudan, with the aim to inform its area-based interventions, thereby creating a common understanding of the context, and both the challenges and opportunities therein. The context analysis informs and co-creates design, approaches and operational responses, thereby also strengthening the FNS-REPRO learning agenda and evidence-based programming – focused on seed sector development. The publication provides a baseline for the four-year programme in the Sudan, together with the Resilience Baseline (RIMA) report.
