Book excerpt: The Robin Hood Virus is a computer virus that is undetectable. We enter the computers of companies that are violating the rule of law or the rule of competitive fairness, the computers of black-hat hackers who are creating havoc all over the world, and terrorist groups that are committing acts of murder. We create wire transfers from their bank accounts with their signatures to our off-shore accounts. From there, we distribute anonymous contributions to several charities such as homeless shelters, food banks, orphanages, families undergoing financial disaster because of medical emergencies, and start up nonprofit companies. We have been inhabiting computers all over the world for the last four years. We have extracted $1,564 billion and donated $1,548 billion. We continue to inhabit the computers we have chosen, and we monitor their actions looking for continued violations. The hardware and software we have developed will never be discovered.

This virus utilizes a back-door that has never been thought of in the black-hat hacker world. We also developed a virus that we employ on cell phones. This virus is called "Ranger". We use this virus to hack into corrupt countries, corporations, and individuals to extract billions of dollars and divert these resources to non-profit entities such as food banks, homeless shelters, orphanages, families going thru catastrophic health issues, small rural hospitals struggling to survive, and creating much needed llc's such as a national rural hospital corporation, DC-10 fire tanker company, homes for homeless veterans, mobile disaster hospitals, building a national water pipeline, preventing water run-off after a forest fire, and more. We soon find ourselves targeted by powerful enemies who will stop at nothing to steal the virus and destroy them.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is an overview and analysis of the global tradition of the outlaw hero. The mythology and history of the outlaw hero is traced from the Roman Empire to the present, showing how both real and mythic figures have influenced social, political, economic and cultural outcomes in many times and places. The book also looks at the contemporary continuations of the outlaw hero mythology, not only in popular culture and everyday life, but also in the current outbreak of global terrorism. The book also presents a more general argument related to the importance of understanding folk and popular mythologies in historical contexts. Outlaw heroes have a strong purchase in high and popular culture, appearing in film, books, plays, music, drama, art, even ballet. To simply ignore and discard such powerful expressions without understanding their origins, persistence and especially their ongoing cultural consequences, is to refuse the opportunity to comprehend some profoundly important aspects of human behaviour. These issues are pursued through discussion of the processes through which real and mythical outlaw heroes are romanticised, sentimentalised, sanitised, commodified and mythologised. The result is a new position in the continuing controversy over the existence the 'social bandit' that highlights the central role of mythology in the creation and perpetuation of outlaw heroes.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Following in the tradition of recent work by cultural geographers and historians of maps, this collection examines the apparently familiar figure of Robin Hood as he can be located within spaces that are geographical, cultural, and temporal. The volume is divided into two sections: the first features an interrogation of the literary and other textually transmitted spaces to uncover the critical grounds in which the Robin Hood ’legend’ has traditionally operated. The essays in Part Two take up issues related to performative and experiential space, demonstrating the reciprocal relationship between page, stage, and lived experience. Throughout the volume, the contributors contend with, among other things, modern theories of gender, literary detective work, and the ways in which the settings that once advanced court performances now include digital gaming and the enactment of ’real’ lives.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While debates over the consequences of climate change are often pessimistic, historical data from the past two centuries indicate many viable opportunities for responding to potential changes. This volume takes a close look at the ways in which economies—particularly that of the United States—have adjusted to the challenges climate change poses, including institutional features that help insulate the economy from shocks, new crop varieties, irrigation, flood control, and ways of extending cultivation to new geographic areas. These innovations indicate that people and economies have considerable capacity to acclimate, especially when private gains complement public benefits. Options for adjusting to climate change abound, and with improved communication and the emergence of new information and technologies, the potential for adaptation will be even greater in the future.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How the computer became universal. Over the past fifty years, the computer has been transformed from a hulking scientific supertool and data processing workhorse, remote from the experiences of ordinary people, to a diverse family of devices that billions rely on to play games, shop, stream music and movies, communicate, and count their steps. In A New History of Modern Computing, Thomas Haigh and Paul Ceruzzi trace these changes. A comprehensive reimagining of Ceruzzi's A History of Modern Computing, this new volume uses each chapter to recount one such transformation, describing how a particular community of users and producers remade the computer into something new. Haigh and Ceruzzi ground their accounts of these computing revolutions in the longer and deeper history of computing technology. They begin with the story of the 1945 ENIAC computer, which introduced the vocabulary of "programs" and "programming," and proceed through email, pocket calculators, personal computers, the World Wide Web, videogames, smart phones, and our current world of computers everywhere--in phones, cars, appliances, watches, and more. Finally, they consider the Tesla Model S as an object that simultaneously embodies many strands of computing.
