Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The desire of my heart is that Christians would get serious about understanding and applying the Bible. There are many devotional materials available but most follow a theme or topic applying a Scripture passage to a life situation. I have developed a devotion that starts with the text of Romans and applies principles and insights from the text to life situations. This daily devotion will guide you through the Book of Romans, verse by verse, building understanding and making challenging applications; while at the same time enhancing the memory to be able to recall Scripture due to intentional repetition. The intention of this devotional is that it be used with your Bible as a thought provoking device that stirs your curiosity and drives you to dig deeper to find answers to the perplexing questions that come to mind. I believe that this devotion will benefit everybody whether new to the Lord Jesus Christ or not.

Boaz Helsing about the lack of righteousness of His people, the impression to him was to study the book of Romans in a deeper way. The theme of The Road to Righteousness is the difference between righteousness under the law and righteousness by faith. We all need a deeper understanding of the patriarchs and why the seed of Abraham was afflicted four hundred years in a land that was not theirs. The children of God today are being persecuted as the children of Israel were in Egypt.

The book of Romans is one of my favorite books in the Bible because the doctrines taught through this book have provided me with so much encouragement. I have used the "Roman Road" many times when sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ with other people. In fact, the "Roman Road" was presented to me when I gave me heart and life to my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. I am thankful for every word provided through the Bible and it is difficult to choose one book as my favorite, but it is not difficult to say that the book of Romans is on my short list of favorites. Romans is the Christians book of clear DOCTRINE! The primary theme is "The Righteousness of God in Christ." The book of Romans can be divided into three sections that will guide us throughout this exciting Bible Study. The first section of Romans teaches us about people's need of God's righteousness. The second section reveals WHO God's provision for righteousness is, Jesus Christ. The last section of Romans provides us with encouragement for living in the power of the Holy Spirit who enables us to demonstrate God's righteousness in our lives!

I believe that if they have available resources and literatures like this, they will help them to navigate and jump-start their journey. Furthermore, those who are already in the faith do sometimes feel lost at some point in their journey, and this is why I believe this book will be a tremendous help to new and growing believers in the Lord to improve their understanding of the life expected of them by God. The book is about righteous living. It details the expectations of God from all believers who want to walk with Him. It also contains information on how to maintain a life of righteousness and things to do in order to remain steadfast, instead of growing weak or weary. The book also gives a brief understanding of God’s view of a righteous man and why God intended this life for all that will walk with Him. This book also includes some practice questions to refresh reader’s memories and ensure adequate comprehension of their reading.

For many, the 'gospel' is that God loves everybody unconditionally. Yet neither Jesus nor his apostles ever preached like that. They seem to have thought that the world needed to know about his righteousness and his willingness, even his eagerness, to share that with us. That is because he is determined to have a universe in which there is no unrighteousness whatever. Why don't we think that is good news?

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since its composition in Washington's Willard Hotel in 1861, Julia Ward Howe's "Battle Hymn of the Republic" has been used to make America and its wars sacred. Few Americans reflect on its violent and redemptive imagery, drawn freely from prophetic passages of the Old and New Testaments, and fewer still think about the implications of that apocalyptic language for how Americans interpret who they are and what they owe the world. In A Fiery Gospel, Richard M. Gamble describes how this camp-meeting tune, paired with Howe's evocative lyrics, became one of the most effective instruments of religious nationalism. He takes the reader back to the song's origins during the Civil War, and reveals how those political and military circumstances launched the song's incredible career in American public life. Gamble deftly considers the idea behind the song—humming the tune, reading the music for us—all while reveling in the multiplicity of meanings of and uses to which Howe's lyrics have been put. "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" has been versatile enough to match the needs of Civil Rights activists and conservative nationalists, war hawks and peaceniks, as well as Europeans and Americans. This varied career shows readers much about the shifting shape of American righteousness. Yet it is, argues Gamble, the creator of the song herself—her Abolitionist household, Unitarian theology, and Romantic and nationalist sensibilities—that is the true conductor of this most American of war songs. A Fiery Gospel depicts most vividly the surprising genealogy of "The Battle Hymn of the Republic," and its sure and certain position as a cultural piece in the uncertain amalgam that was and is American civil religion.

Book excerpt: A profound exploration of how to hold on to hope when our unchanging faith collides with a changing culture, from two respected Christian storytellers and thought leaders. “Offers neither spin control nor image maintenance for the evangelical tribe, but genuine hope.”—Russell Moore, president of ERLC As the pressures of health warnings, economic turmoil, and partisan politics continue to rise, the influence of gospel-focused Christians seems to be waning. In the public square and popular opinion, we are losing our voice right when it’s needed most for Christ’s glory and the common good. But there’s another story unfolding too—if you know where to look. In Gospelbound, Collin Hansen and Sarah Eekhoff Zylstra counter these growing fears with a robust message of resolute hope for anyone hungry for good news. Join them in exploring profound stories of Christians who are quietly changing the world in the name of Jesus—from the wild world of digital media to the stories of ancient saints and unsung contemporary activists on the frontiers of justice and mercy. Discover how, in these dark times, the light of Jesus shines even brighter. You haven’t heard the whole story. And that’s good news.

Book excerpt: This study deals with Clement of Alexandria's interpretation of evil and free will in the context of the rising Christianity, the influence of Near Eastern and Greek thought on him, his differences from St. Augustine, and how his interpretation affected the rise of the Eastern Christian thought. The book also treats briefly the subject of man's personal aim in life perceived by Clement as the supersession of his nature. Failure to realize this personal aim in life leads to alienation from God, and death. The moral dilemma of Clement's interpretation of evil as failure of life's aim is not a conventional explanation of good and evil but something much more: the option between real life and death. Consequently, Clement's idea of evil refers to existential problems and ontological realities.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While I have worked on this project for two years, about halfway through, I told my pastor that I felt like I was taking on the whole John 3:16 Christian culture. While I have never believed that at the moment of belief or surrender, we receive the keys to the kingdom, I have come to the understanding that Jesus is telling Nicodemus who He is and what He is going to do at His second coming. He takes care of the sin problem and shows that He has the power over the death in His first coming, initiates the age of true righteousness and sets the stage for His second coming. It is at this time that He lifts the curse and completes the promise made to Abraham, reveals who the children of God are and establishes His kingdom here on this earth. On that Day, the dead in Christ will come out of the grave and meet Him in the air. We have a choice of whether to believe that Jesus completes the work of salvation at His first coming or His second coming. There are so many scriptures that place the complete work of salvation at His second coming, that I find it difficult to believe that He completes this work at His first coming. It comes down to mankind's desire for instant gratification. In Luke 9, there is a passage where Jesus, before He picks up His cross, once and for all time, talks specifically about who He is and what He has come to do at his first coming. In that passage, he tells His disciples that they, too, along with all those who choose to follow Him, must pick up their cross daily. This does not appeal to the instant gratification crowd, but it is where faith begins. Where our faith journey begins determines where our journey will end.

Wherein Is Considered, What Reason Teaches Concerning This Affair. Section I. Some things observed in general, which reason dictates Section II. Some further observations concerning those things which reason leads us to suppose God aimed at in the creation of the world Section III. Wherein it is considered how, on the supposition of God’s making the aforementioned things his last end, he manifests a supreme and ultimate regard to himself in all his works Section IV. Some objections considered, which may be made against the reasonableness of what has been said of God making himself his last end. Chapter II. Wherein If It Is Inquired, What Is To Be Learned From Holy Scriptures, Concerning God’s Last End In The Creation Of The World Section I. The Scriptures represent God as making himself his own last end in the creation of the world Section II. Wherein some positions are advanced concerning a just method of arguing in this affair, from what we find in the Holy Scriptures Section III. Particular texts of Scripture, that show that God’s glory is an ultimate end of the creation Section IV. Places of Scripture that lead us to suppose, that God created the world for his name, to make his perfections known; and that he made it for his praise. Section V. Places of Scripture from whence it may be argued, that communication of good to the creature, was one thing which God had in view, as an ultimate end of the creation of the world. Section VI. Wherein is considered what is meant by the glory of God and the name of God in Scripture, when spoken of as God’s end in his works Section VII. Showing that the ultimate End of the Creation of the World is but one, and what that one end is.
