Book Synopsis Fluid Flow, Heat and Mass Transfer at Bodies of Different Shapes by : Kuppalapalle Vajravelu
Download or read book Fluid Flow, Heat and Mass Transfer at Bodies of Different Shapes written by Kuppalapalle Vajravelu and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2015-09-08 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most of the equations governing the problems related to science and engineering are nonlinear in nature. As a result, they are inherently difficult to solve. Analytical solutions are available only for some special cases. For other cases, one has no easy means but to solve the problem must depend on numerical solutions. Fluid Flow, Heat and Mass Transfer at Bodies of Different Shapes: Numerical Solutions presents the current theoretical developments of boundary layer theory, a branch of transport phenomena. Also, the book addresses the theoretical developments in the area and presents a number of physical problems that have been solved by analytical or numerical method. It is focused particularly on fluid flow problems governed by nonlinear differential equations. The book is intended for researchers in applied mathematics, physics, mechanics and engineering. Addresses basic concepts to understand the theoretical framework for the method Provides examples of nonlinear problems that have been solved through the use of numerical method Focuses on fluid flow problems governed by nonlinear equations

Book Synopsis A Study of the Impulsive Motion of a Semiinfinite Flat Plate Using a Linear Model of the Unsteady Boundary Layer Equations by : Robert C. Ackerberg
Download or read book A Study of the Impulsive Motion of a Semiinfinite Flat Plate Using a Linear Model of the Unsteady Boundary Layer Equations written by Robert C. Ackerberg and published by . This book was released on 1963 with total page 1 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The impulsive motion of a semi-infinite flat plate in a fluid initially at rest is studied using a linear model of the unsteady boundary layer equations (introduced by Stewartson) and conventional Fourier and Laplace transform techniques. By imposing the physical condition that the skin friction be integrable at the leading edge, a unique solution is found which agrees with that obtained by Stewartson using a different method. All transforms are inverted in a formal way using a theorem on Laplace transforms due to Van der Pol, and the non-unique solutions are discussed. (Author).

This book was released on 2005-07-26 with total page 1135 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is an expanded version of The Applied Dynamics of Ocean Surface Waves. It presents theoretical topics on ocean wave dynamics, including basic principles and applications in coastal and offshore engineering as well as coastal oceanography. Advanced analytical and numerical techniques are applied, such as singular perturbations. In this expanded version, three chapters on recent developments have been added. The first is on multiple scattering by periodic or random bathymetry. The second is on Zakharov's theory of nonlinear wave fields with broad spectra. The third is an extensive discussion of powerful numerical techniques for highly nonlinear waves. Other new topics include infragravity waves, upstream solitons, Venice storm gates, etc. In addition, there are many new exercises.Theory and Applications of Ocean Surface Waves will be invaluable for graduate students and researchers in coastal and ocean engineering, geophysical fluid dynamicists interested in water waves, and theoretical scientists and applied mathematicians wishing to develop new techniques for challenging problems or to apply techniques existing elsewhere.
