Book excerpt: This annotated bibliography of New Zealand trade union literature includes human resources, labour studies and social history. It is more complete and up to date than Bert Roth's (1970, reprinted 1977) bibliography, and much of the material does not appear in Austin Bagnall's 'New Zealand National Bibliography'. Other than trade unions themselves, political and union activists, social historians, students and book researchers will find 'Words at Work' a valuable resource. Even a cursory glance at the wealth of literature, covering 130 years, recorded here shows a broad range of diverse activity across many occupational groupings, windmills that have been tilted at and often bent, the indefatigable nature of worker organisation and action, and the striving for progress in areas of life beyond the industrial.

European Union Committee and published by The Stationery Office. This book was released on 2011 with total page 94 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Following the Treaty of Lisbon, The European Council has been given the power to adopt and implement an internal security strategy. it did so in March 2010, and this was followed in November by a Commission communication setting out the priorities, and how to implement them. The communication sets out five steps towards a more secure Europe: The disruption of international crime networks, The prevention of terrorism, security in cyberspace, improved border management, and increased resilience to crises and disasters. Of these cyber-security is a comparative newcomer and it is now clear that it can lead to massive disruption of state infrastructure, and can be used for espionage, terrorism, even war. As such, much of the evidence received concerned the role which the EU might play in fighting cyber-attacks. The Commission's main proposal is to set up a new Cybercrime Centre. This might be no more than a talking shop, but it could become a useful tool for investigating and analysing past attacks, improving law enforcement and preventing future attacks. Much will depend on whether it is given adequate resources. The Committee looked at the implementation of the strategy and at the way in which it overlaps with national and international strategies, In the hope that they can be mutually supportive. The Council has a new committee, which, under the Treaties, has the duty of coordinating all the work on internal security. Unless it does so effectively very little can be achieved; if it properly fulfils its mandate, The EU may play a valuable role in protecting the security of its citizens.

Book Synopsis Documents on the Arab-Israeli Conflict by : M Cherif Bassiouni
Download or read book Documents on the Arab-Israeli Conflict written by M Cherif Bassiouni and published by Martinus Nijhoff Publishers. This book was released on 2023-04-17 with total page 1259 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This comprehensive compilation of some 595 documents on the Arab-Israeli conflict and a variety of related issues includes all the materials the researcher, analyst, and student of this conflict and region needs in a single text, from the years 1897 to 2003. Documents are listed in chronological order because many documents refer to more than one subject. They are, however, identified in the introduction according to subject matter. When different aspects recurred in a number of UN resolutions, only the main document is included, while others are referred to. The compilation is not only about Palestinian issues. It includes all relevant documents between Arab states and Israel, from the armistice agreements (1949), to the peace treaties with Egypt (1979) and Jordan (1994), as well as their protocols and other documents that derive from these treaties. The subject-matter content is as varied as the legal and political issues presented by this conflict. It includes geographical boundaries, refugees, water rights, regional security, elimination of weapons of mass destruction, and, of course, human rights and peace. Published under the Transnational Publishers imprint. The print edition is available as a set of two volumes (9781571052902).
Book Synopsis Commissions of Inquiry by : Christian Henderson
Download or read book Commissions of Inquiry written by Christian Henderson and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2017-05-18 with total page 521 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This timely and pertinent collection looks at the variety of questions involved in the operation of Commissions of Inquiry (CoIs). Traditionally existing as pure fact-finding bodies, in recent times the function of CoIs has arguably shifted and broadened so as to provide a form of legal adjudication. This shift in their application merits scrutiny and this edited collection of essays addresses institutional and procedural aspects of CoIs, as well as issues in regards to the application and interpretation of the substantative law applied to them. Essay topics include the relationship of CoIs with, and impact upon, traditional forms of adjudication, the influences of international law upon the work of CoIs, through to issues of procedural fairness. Drawing upon the expertise of scholars working within in the field, it offers an insightful and critical analysis of CoIs.
