Book Synopsis Ta’arruf as a Philosophy of Muslim Education by : Yusef Waghid
Download or read book Ta’arruf as a Philosophy of Muslim Education written by Yusef Waghid and published by African Sun Media. This book was released on 2021-01-14 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, Yusef Waghid constitutes his argument in defence of ta’arruf (associational knowing) as an expanded conception of ta’dib (good education). In the first part of the book he elucidates Abu Bakr Effendi’s position on a Muslim educational philosophy which can be couched as rational, pragmatic and critical. As a backdrop to this, in the second part of the book, he argues for a notion of Muslim educational philosophy according to ta’arruf (associational knowing) on the basis that it enhances the notion of an autonomous self and its capabilities; summons different people to engage in deliberative encounters; and provokes the self to be reflectively open towards that which remains in becoming. This leads him to posit that ta’arruf (associational knowing) has the potential to cultivate humanity. His notion of ta’arruf extends practices of tarbiyyah (rearing), ta’lim (learning), and ta’dib (good education) associated with Muslim educational philosophy.

Download or read book Textual Sources for the Study of Islam written by Andrew Rippin and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 1990-10-15 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "[This collection] is distinguished by its wide range and the care which has clearly gone into the selection of texts for inclusion. . . . Attention has understandably been focused on what might be called the religious aspects of Islam, such as scripture, theology, sects, law, ritual and mysticism, but within those limits the texts chosen are marked by substantially of content, by geographical, chronological and social diversity, and by an intelligent use of less well known authors. . . . An excellent starting point for a systematic and analytical examination of Islam."—G. R. Hawting, Bulletin of the School of Oriental and African Studies
Book Synopsis Migration and Agency in a Globalizing World by : Scarlett Cornelissen
Download or read book Migration and Agency in a Globalizing World written by Scarlett Cornelissen and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-01-10 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book – through a collection of case studies covering Southern and East Africa, China, India, Japan, South Korea and Southeast Asia – offers insights into the nature of social exchanges between Africa and Asia. In the age of the ‘Rise of the South’, it documents the entanglements and the lived experiences of African and Asian people on the move. Divided into three parts, the authors look at Asians in Africa, Africans in Asia, and the ‘connected histories’ that the two share, which illuminate emerging and historical modalities of Afro-Asian human encounters. Cornelissen and Yoichi show how migrants activate multiple forms of transnational social capital as part of their survival strategies and develop complex relationships with host communities.

Book excerpt: This volume counters the prevailing Western views and stereotypes of Muslim women - usually projected through male interpretations - by presenting a cross-cultural perspective of their experiences and choices in contemporary Muslim communities.
