His main goal in writing this book is to present the real facts of the people often wrongly depicted in maritime adventure fiction. His characters are men greedy of gold, ambitious, reckless, and cruel fighters. The settings to these scenes are the forested coasts of Caribbean Islands, where many of these outlaws found their piece of New World.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a detailed account of South Wales during the 1790s by David Collins. He was a British Marine officer appointed as Judge-Advocate to the new colony in Botany Bay. In October 17686, Collins volunteered his assistance in the proposed penal colony of New South Wales. Despite a lack of legal training in November, he was assigned as Judge Advocate for the new colony and chief judge for a military court managing the New South Wales Marine Corps. In 1787 he sailed aboard the First Fleet, reaching Sydney Cove in January 1788. In the middle of 1788, Governor Phillip selected Collins as the Secretary to the Governor, after which he filled the three roles of Secretary, Judge Advocate, and Lieutenant Governor until he left the colony for England in 1796.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a detailed and practically oriented guide to the challenges of conducting terrorist fieldwork. The past decade has seen an explosion of research into terrorism. However, field research on terrorism has traditionally been surrounded by many myths, and has been called anything from "necessary" and "crucial" to "dangerous", "unethical" and "impossible". While there is an increasing interest among terrorism specialists in conducting such research, there is no single volume providing prospective field researchers with a guideline to such work. Conducting Terrorism Field Research aims to fill this gap and offers a collection of articles from experienced authors representing different risk groups, disciplines, methodological approaches, regional specializations, and other context-specific aspects. Each contributor provides a road-map to their own research, describing planning and preparation phases, the formalities involved in getting into conflict zones and gaining access to sources. The end product is a 'how to' guide to field research on terrorism, which will be of much value to terrorism experts and novices alike. This book will be of much interest to students and researchers of terrorism studies, war and conflict studies, criminology, IR and security studies.

Book excerpt: Drawing from 140 recently declassified documents, this report comprehensively examines the organization, territorial designs, management, personnel policies, and finances of the Islamic State of Iraq (ISI) and al-Qa‘ida in Iraq. Analysis of the Islamic State predecessor groups is more than a historical recounting. It provides significant understanding of how ISI evolved into the present-day Islamic State and how to combat the group.
