This comprehensive guide addresses the pervasive issue of bullying in schools and presents it in a manner that is both engaging and educational for young minds. Purpose and Format: Kevin Foo's book is a proactive endeavour aimed at cultivating graciousness and empathy among school-going students. Diverging from the common format of illustrated books, this edition adopts a text-only approach. This strategy encourages students to engage deeply with the content, enhancing their reading and comprehension skills. The narratives are preceded by 'Brain Candy' – a set of teaser words that stimulate the imagination, setting a creative stage for the stories. Structure and Content: The book is divided into three volumes, each focusing on different forms of bullying: Physical and Verbal Bullying in Volume 1, Social and Cyber Bullying in Volume 2, and Economic and Prejudicial Bullying in Volume 3. These volumes collectively cover 48 incidents of bullying, offering a broad and inclusive understanding of the issue. Characters and Engagement: The stories feature relatable young heroes like Grace, Elanor, Fauzi and many friends from diverse backgrounds who demonstrate positive actions in the face of bullying. The narratives are crafted to be relatable, allowing students to see themselves in these scenarios and learn from the characters' responses. Educational Tools: Each story is accompanied by a 'Golden Nugget' that encapsulates its core lesson. The book includes conversation starters to facilitate discussions, ChoicePicks for interactive engagement, role-playing ideas for practical learning, humorous tales for a lighthearted approach, and actionable tips for students to stand up against bullying. Impact on Students: "Gracious Students Don’t Bully Reimagined" is more than just a book; it's a resource that empowers young students to understand and tackle bullying. It promotes critical thinking, empathy, and proactive problem-solving, making it an invaluable tool for character development. This book offers a unique blend of entertainment and education, making it a crucial addition to our school's curriculum. It will not only aid in addressing bullying but also foster a more inclusive and respectful school environment. Kevin Foo has dedicated countless hours to researching and crafting the content of "Gracious Students Don’t Bully Reimagined." While he may not be a psychologist or a professed authority in the complex fields of bullying and child psychology, his rich life experiences and grounded common sense have been pivotal in the creation of this meaningful work. This book is a testament to his commitment to addressing crucial social issues through the lens of graciousness. It joins his series of impactful writings under the banner “Have We Lost It – Gracious Chronicles,” further enriching his endeavor to foster a world imbued with understanding, empathy, and the timeless value of gracious living.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The #1 national bestseller now revised and updated with a new Epilogue. Now aged 75, Peter C. Newman at last tells the story of his stranger-than-fiction life. Try to keep up as we follow his many lives: as a pampered child in a Czech chateau; a Jewish kid in short pants being machine-gunned by Nazi fighter planes on the beach at Biarritz, en route to the last ship to escape from France in 1940; as a refugee on an Ontario farm; as an outsider on a scholarship at Upper Canada College; as a Financial Post journalist, then an author whose Renegade in Power made Canadian politics dramatic and disrespectfully exciting for the first time; as the man who revealed the secrets of the rulers of the Canadian business world in The Canadian Establishment, and other huge business success stories, including The Establishment Man, on Conrad Black; or the millionaire who turned his back on business books and tackled Canadian history (Company of Adventurers and other triumphs), in a career where his work has dominated the bestseller lists in politics, business, history, and current affairs. In the midst of all this were his years at the Toronto Star and Maclean’s where, as editor, he took the magazine weekly – a huge accomplishment. He is still a legend there, where his columns continue to run. He knew and wrote about every prime minister from Louis St. Laurent to Paul Martin and every prominent Canadian – hero or villain – in between. Yet his most interesting character is – Peter C. Newman. Incredibly, this central figure known to millions of Canadians sees himself as a perennial outsider. In personal terms, the rich little Czech boy whose nannies never stayed talks frankly about his marriages and the women he has known before his ultimate marriage to his beloved Alvy. His enthusiasms – from jazz to the Canadian Navy, not to mention his adventures on his beloved sailboat – make for a rich portrait of an astonishingcharacter, one who never stops being controversial.

Book excerpt: It's a view imprinted on the retina of most South Australians - that majestic vista as you drive into Victor Harbor taking in the town, Granite Island and The Bluff. This is a place of lazy summer holidays, rides on the horse-drawn tram, strolls around Granite Island with an ice cream, fish and chips on the lawn, a cosy winter weekend - a happy place to slow down and relax with loved ones. In this beautiful book, you'll find all this and more as stories from history, newspapers, interviews and oral histories, along with hundreds of images, bring to life the people and places that make Victor Harbor a coveted destination and place to live. You'll meet a host of remarkable people, from the Ramindjeri with their deep spiritual and cultural connection to the land and sea, to the European settlers and the profound change they brought about. Essential to Victor's story are the rough and ready whalers and fishers who once braved the seas of the rugged South Coast. So, too, those involved in community organisations, tourism, agriculture, conservation, business, sport and the arts - trailblazers and local legends pivotal to the social fabric of the town. Victor Harbor: Down beside the sea is the fascinating story of how Victor Harbor came to be, told by the people who live and work in this breathtakingly beautiful coastal locale. Whether you reconnect with Victor Harbor in your armchair or decide to travel from afar to discover the place for yourself, you'll find there's plenty going on 'down beside the sea'.

Book excerpt: When a popular British evangelical leader appeared to denounce the idea that God was punishing Christ in our place on the cross as a twisted version of events, morally dubious, and a huge barrier to faith that should be rejected in favour of preaching only that God is love, major controversy was stirred. Many thought the idea of penal substitution was at the heart of the evangelical understanding of the cross, if not the only legitimate interpretation of the death of Christ. Yet for some time less popular evangelical theologians had been calling this traditional interpretation of the atonement into question. So, is the traditional evangelical view of penal substitution the biblical explanation of Christ's death or one of many? Is it the non'negotiable heart of evangelical theology or a time bound explanation that has outlived its usefulness? What does the cross say about the character of God, the nature of the law and sin, the meaning of grace, and our approach to missions?

Book excerpt: November, 1930. One sunny Saturday afternoon, 12-year-old Mena Griffiths was playing in the park when she was lured away by an unknown man. Hours later, her strangled body was found, mouth gagged and hands crossed over her chest, in an abandoned house. Only months later, another girl was murdered; the similarities between the cases undeniable. Crime in Melbourne had taken a shocking new turn: this was the work of a serial killer, a homicidal maniac. Despite their best efforts, police had no experience dealing with this kind of criminal. What followed was years of bungled investigations, falsely accused men - and the tragic deaths of two more girls - before the murderer was finally caught and brought to justice. With all the pace of a thriller, Katherine Kovacic recounts this extraordinary, chilling true story - of failed police enquiries, a killer with a Jekyll and Hyde personality, and the families shattered when four innocent lives were cruelly taken.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: John Edwin Gardiner was the eldest son of James "Jimmy" Gardiner, the most prominent Liberal politician of his day in western Canada. Edwin was called up by the RCAF in November 1940, received his wings in October 1941, and travelled to England in early November 1941. On August 18, 1942, on the eve of the Dieppe Raid, Edwin wrote to his father: "At long last we're going to take part in something big which you will read all about in the papers long before you get this letter." Edwin Gardiner was killed when his plane went down on the following day. James Gardiner, who had lost two brothers in the First World War, had now lost his son to war. His wife, Violet, found the grief unbearable and took her own life in October 1944, yet another casualty of war.
