Book excerpt: I always dreamed I'd graduate law school, and that I'd meet my very own prince charming who would sweep me off my feet, take me away on wild adventures and that we'd live happily ever after. That was before my parents died in a car accident where my sister lost both her legs. Where am I today? Well, life's pretty sucky. Ok, extremely sucky. I just started a job as an escort so I can support my sister and save up for her prosthetic legs. And my dream of a happily ever after? Well, let's face it: there's no time for that s#it. I'm stuck here being responsible, doing the adult thing. That's until I meet Erik, the real goddamn Prince of Norway, and he reminds me of what it's like to feel again, to dare to dream again, and to believe in the fairytale I had shoved so deep down I thought it was gone. One touch from him is a jolt to my heart, and suddenly I'm feeling things I really don't want to feel. Because let's face it, fairytales don't come true...do they?

Book excerpt: Beautiful, vivacious and fearless, Agnes Leclerc was 21 years old when she met Prince Felix Salm, a Prussian officer in the Union Army at the outbreak of the US Civil War. Their marriage took Agnes from small-town America to the royal palaces of Europe. She accompanied Felix on his Civil War campaigns, followed him to Mexico to fight for Emperor Maximilian, then returned home to his ancestral castle in Germany and war with France. Presidents, governors and generals succumbed to her charms. She pleaded with the implacable Benito Juarez for Maximilian's life and the German Kaiser honoured her for her heroism during the Franco-Prussian War. Although Felix's life was cut short in 1870, Agnes lived out the rest of her life as a stately European aristocrat.

During the brisk walk that Demetrjusz took, he had tried to lose himself in the city. There were several shops open, and he looked idly into the windows, until he saw a flash of silver. Pausing, Demetrjusz looked a little closer into a shop window. With surprise, Demetrjusz saw a tiny woman standing before a display of brightly colored fabric. Her hair was white with a frame of black. Only one other person the prince had ever seen had that unique color pattern or diminutive stature—that of the figure skater from the previous charity performance. The prince’s sensitive ears picked up every syllable that the tiny beauty said. “Stefanie, if you could use this in the costume you are sewing for me. I have to get back before my curfew is up.” Stefanie said, “Domino, you can stay in my spare room. You don’t have to stay at the institute anymore. You will be twenty-one in a couple of days.” Demetrjusz sucked in a deep breath. This was Domino, the woman that had plagued his thoughts all day. The prince continued to listen as Domino said, “Dominique, please call me Dominique. I can’t today. I have another event for the institute tomorrow night, and then I will be unemployed.” Demetrjusz was in too deep of thought to notice that the woman that had infatuated him all day was saying her goodbyes. Dominique rushed out the door and straight into the immovable body of the prince. Demetrjusz gently steadied her little body with his hands, holding Dominique a little too long. Dominique looked up at Demetrjusz, her Kelly green eyes snapping their disapproval as she said, “Excuse me, sir.” Dominique felt extremely annoyed at the tall, very handsome stranger who was holding her. Dominique raised her eyebrow at him when he did not release her and moved to the side. Prince Demetrjusz realized that he was breaking a cultural norm and apologized. Reluctantly, he released the little performer. And before Demetrjusz could stop Dominique, she had hopped on a public bus and was gone. Demetrjusz could still smell Dominique’s intoxicating fragrance of peppermint and lavender as he watched the public transportation carry away the elusive female. Roald and Kenechukwa walked up to the prince. Roald inquired, “Did you know that young woman, Your Highness?” Demetrjusz answered as he stared at the bus driving away, “No, but I will.” Turning to his friends, he said, “Most definitely, I will.” The other two men looked at each other and shrugged their shoulders.

It takes place in maisons de rendevous, luxurious chateaux in the French countryside providing hospitality for the British upper classes, the richest food, the finest wines and the most beautiful women - in Paris in the Ritz and the demi-monde - where many of the women came from - and an exclusive location in London where the murder was committed. This major royal scandal, superbly covered up by the Royal Household and the judiciary has remained secret ever since. Book Synopsis The Oxford Encyclopedia of Medieval Warfare and Military Technology by : Clifford J. Rogers
Download or read book The Oxford Encyclopedia of Medieval Warfare and Military Technology written by Clifford J. Rogers and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 2010 with total page 1798 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This set is an excellent companion to J. R. Strayer's edited Dictionary of the Middle Ages (CH, Nov'87; Supplement I, ed. by W. C. Jordan, CH, Sep'04, 42-0044). The focus on warfare allows the editors to offer larger entries on major topics (e.g., "Agincourt," "Crusades," "Feudalism") and introduce many complementary topics. The editors are concerned with Europe; they expand coverage into Asia or Africa only because of the connection to medieval Europe. Coverage also includes an abundance of entries pertaining to Central and Eastern Europe. Most of the 1,000-plus entries are about a page in length, but a few approach 50 pages. Medium and large-size entries, such as "Chivalry," "Germany," and "Slavic Lands," discuss primary sources and very valuable historiographies. A thorough index helps readers locate the Knights Templar under "Orders, Military, Levantine Orders." Cross-references and bibliographies follow each of the signed entries. Locating reliable and scholarly information on the Knights Templar and Vlad Tepes (Dracula) is tricky. Some of the bibliographies include sources in foreign languages. For example, the references for the Black Army of Hungary are in Hungarian. Noticeably missing are entries for the many wars. This set is particularly suited to research libraries. Summing Up: Highly recommended. Lower-level undergraduates through professionals/practitioners; general readers. General Readers; Lower-division Undergraduates; Upper-division Undergraduates; Graduate Students; Researchers/Faculty; Professionals/Practitioners. Reviewed by W. M. Fontane.
