Total egg production during the first 6 months of 1948 was smaller than a year earlier by only 2 percent. Egg production will decrease. Seasonally through November. Output during the second half of the year will continue below 1947; however, it will be augmented'by the somewhat large r storage holdings of shell eggs which were accumulated during the second quarter of 1948. On July 1, the holdings of shell eggs in the United States totaled million cases compared with million cases on July 1, 1947.
