Book Synopsis The Porter's Son by : Hans Christian Andersen
Download or read book The Porter's Son written by Hans Christian Andersen and published by Lindhardt og Ringhof. This book was released on 2020-11-18 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The general’s family lived on the first floor of the house. The concierge and his wife lived in the cellar. They had a son, Georg, who was allowed to play with Emily, the general’s daughter. The general’s wife required just one thing: that Georg never touch Emily. Despite this prohibition and their difference in status, over the years they spent in the same house they became firm friends. Hans Christian Andersen (1805-1875) was a Danish author, poet and artist. Celebrated for children’s literature, his most cherished fairy tales include "The Emperor's New Clothes", "The Little Mermaid", "The Nightingale", "The Steadfast Tin Soldier", "The Snow Queen", "The Ugly Duckling" and "The Little Match Girl". His books have been translated into every living language, and today there is no child or adult that has not met Andersen's whimsical characters. His fairy tales have been adapted to stage and screen countless times, most notably by Disney with the animated films "The Little Mermaid" in 1989 and "Frozen", which is loosely based on "The Snow Queen", in 2013. Thanks to Andersen's contribution to children's literature, his birth date, April 2, is celebrated as International Children's Book Day.

Book Synopsis Dr. Henry R. Porter by : L.G. Walker, Jr., M.D.
Download or read book Dr. Henry R. Porter written by L.G. Walker, Jr., M.D. and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2010-07-27 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Custer came to me and said: 'Porter, there is a large camp of Indians ahead, and we are going to have a great killing.'" The words of army contract surgeon Henry R. Porter are chilling today in their matter-of-fact reference to the battle to come--a battle of which Porter would be one of the few white survivors. Drawing on his writings, this biography tells the story of Porter's transformation from young easterner to ambitious frontier settler and medical practicioner in mid-19th century America. In its details of frontier life, of the infamous Battle of Little Bighorn, and of Porter's later travels around the world (which ended with his death in Agra, India), the reader finds richness that brings history vividly to life. Appendices contain a list of items from the North Dakota Historical Society's Henry R. Porter collection and a detailed Porter lineage.
