Download or read book How to Die written by Ray Robertson and published by Biblioasis. This book was released on 2020-01-28 with total page 129 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A radical revaluation of how contemporary society perceives death—and an argument for how it can make us happy. “He who would teach men to die would teach them to live,” writes Montaigne in Essais, and in How to Die: A Book about Being Alive, Ray Robertson takes up the challenge. Though contemporary society avoids the subject and often values the mere continuation of existence over its quality, Robertson argues that the active and intentional consideration of death is neither morbid nor frivolous, but instead essential to our ability to fully value life. How to Die is both an absorbing excursion through some of Western literature’s most compelling works on the subject of death as well as an anecdote-driven argument for cultivating a better understanding of death in the belief that, if we do, we’ll know more about what it means to live a meaningful life.

Book Synopsis Dutch Decorated Bookbinding in the Eighteenth Century, Volume IIB by : Jan Storm van Leeuwen
Download or read book Dutch Decorated Bookbinding in the Eighteenth Century, Volume IIB written by Jan Storm van Leeuwen and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2022-12-05 with total page 739 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Awarded with the 15th ILAB Breslauer Prize for Bibliography 2010. This classic can be ranked among the well-known international standard works on the subject of bookbinding. The author, Dr. Jan Storm van Leeuwen, gives in this work an elaborate general historical introduction to his subject. It also contains a general introduction to each province, as they were known in the eigteenth century, and an extensive overall picture of the towns where luxury bindings were manufactured, describing the bookbinder's workshops and binderies of each town. The historical introduction is completed with a catalogue of the approximately 2000 relevant bindings in the collections of the Koninklijke Bibliotheek (National Library of the Netherlands) and its sister institution the Museum Meermanno-Westreenianum. About 1500 other bindings that the author studied over time in other collections are also described. But the most important feature of this work is that all (nearly 10.000) stamps on these bindings are represented by a picture. Never before so many bindings (3500) have been recorded, described and discussed in such detail and with the benefit of an established model and terminology. The print edition is available as a set of four volumes (9789061943693).

Yet nothing ever runs smoothly for Isabel, and fabulously fashionably as her life is, it soon seems to be spiraling a little out of her control. Confetti Confidential Having realized that fashion design may not actually be the best profession for her, Isabel Bookbinder has made another career move—this time, into the world of wedding planning. She’s landed a big celebrity client, and she’s moved in with her perfect lawyer boyfriend, Will. So it seems like the universe is finally aligning in her favor—that is, until Will becomes increasingly reluctant to discuss their future... Will Isabel be able to pull off the wedding that could make or break her career? Can she ever measure up in her father’s eyes? And will she ever have a wedding day all of her own?
