Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Synthesizing the theoretical and experimental advances in pion-nucleon interactions over approximately the last twelve years, the authors offer here a timely account of the hadronic interactions of pions and nucleons and of the structure of nucleons. Because of the hadronic SU3 symmetry, the book also treats the structure of baryons in general, and so contains much material external to the specific field of pion-nucleon interactions. Thus the book's subject can be stated as the hadronic structure of baryons as illustrated particularly by pion-nucleon interaction. Following an introductory discussion of isotopic spin, the authors proceed to chapters that treat low energy pion scattering by nucleons and the photoproduction of pions; forward and fixed momentum transfer dispersion relations; analytic properties of scattering amplitudes; formation of nucleon resonances; symmetries and classification of particles and resonances; current algebra, sum rules, and superconvergence relations; scattering at higher energies; pion-nucleon dynamics; pion-nucleon inelastic scattering; and the form factors of the nucleon and the pion. Each chapter is followed by abundant references to the original literature. The level of the writing is suitable for students at the graduate level, and the presentation is even and self-contained. On balance, the authors have prepared a useful consolidation and review of this difficult and changing area of investigation. Originally published in 1973. This book was released on 2015-12-08 with total page 149 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the most fundamental problems in elementary particle physics is the study of the interaction of the pion meson with nucleons. It is believed that the pion meson plays a fundamental role in the description of nuclear forces and it is important, therefore, to understand the interaction of these particles. The primary method of gaining information on this interaction is through scattering experiments, and this book is concerned primarily with studies of pion-nucleon scattering at high energies. Book Synopsis Three Particle Model of the Pion-nucleon System by : Fatih Bulut
Download or read book Three Particle Model of the Pion-nucleon System written by Fatih Bulut and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 119 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A relativistic, three particle model of the pion-nucleon system is constructed in the instantform of relativistic quantum mechanics using the Bakamjian-Thomas procedure. The modelspace includes subspaces for the nucleon (N), the resonances & delta;= P33 (1232), P11 (1440), D13(1520), S11 (1535), and S31 (1620), as well as & pi;N, & pi & delta;, & eta;N, and & pi; & pi;N subspaces. The modelspecifies a Poincaré invariant mass operator that includes vertex interactions that couple thevarious subspaces, as well as renormalization terms. Projection operator techniques are used toreduce the equations arising from this mass operator to a set of three-dimensional Lippmann-Schwinger integral equations that couple only the & pi;N, & pi; & delta;, and & eta;N channels. After a partial waveanalysis these three-dimensional equations simplify to three coupled, one-dimensional integralequations for each partial wave. The mass operator interactions are derived from effective, hadronic Lagrangians that introduce a set of coupling constants. Cutoff functions are introducedto take into account the non-elementary nature of the particles in the model. These cutofffunctions introduce a set of cutoff masses. The coupling constants and cutoff masses aredetermined by fitting a partial wave analysis of pion-nucleon elastic scattering up to a c.m.energy of W = 1550 MeV.

Book Synopsis The Two-nucleon System at Next-to-next-to-next-to-leading Order by :
Download or read book The Two-nucleon System at Next-to-next-to-next-to-leading Order written by and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 2960 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We consider the two-nucleon system at next-to-next-to-next-to-leading order (N3LO) in chiral effective field theory. The two--nucleon potential at N3LO consists of one-, two- and three-pion exchanges and a set of contact interactions with zero, two and four derivatives. In addition, one has to take into account various isospin--breaking and relativistic corrections. We employ spectral function regularization for the multi--pion exchanges. Within this framework, it is shown that the three-pion exchange contribution is negligibly small. The low--energy constants (LECs) related to pion-nucleon vertices are taken consistently from studies of pion-nucleon scattering in chiral perturbation theory. The total of 26 four--nucleon LECs has been determined by a combined fit to some np and pp phase shifts from the Nijmegen analysis together with the nn scattering length.
