Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Pine Cone, 1925, Vol. 1 The name Of the annual has been chosen after very careful thought and study. Is more character istic of South Georgia than the tall. Stately pines? Not only are they characteristic Of South Georgia. But our campus as well, for no one could ever separate in their imagination the pines from our buildings. SO vital has been the influence of our pines that both our monthly magazine and our college song has been named The Pine Branch. Therefore, to be consistent. We have deemed it proper to search among the pines for an annual name. The result is the pine cone - for what is more essential to the pine than its cone? I it not the final product which represents the growth and development of the tree? Even as the cone is the fruitage of the pine. May this annual always be the true fruitage of this college.
