It deals with the various aspects of bhakti in detail and illustrates the ideal and the way to supreme bhakti through the life and teachings of Sri Krishna, the Godhead personified. Its sublime spiritual beauty, graceful literary style and poetic appeal have no parallels in the Puranic literature. No wonder, it is highly revered and widely read by all those who seek God through the path of love and devotion. Besides giving all relevant details about the historicity and origin of Srimad Bhagavata and its philosophy, it serves as a good appetizer for undertaking a complete study of this scripture.

This book was released on 1976-12-31 with total page 1142 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Srimad-Bhagavatam, an epic philosophical and literary classic, holds a prominent position in India's voluminous written wisdom. The timeless wisdom of India is expressed in the Vedas, ancient Sanskrit texts that touches upon all fields of human knowledge. Originally preserved through oral tradition, the Vedas were first put into writing by Srila Vyasadeva, the "literary incarnation of God." After compiling the Vedas, Srila Vyasadeva was inspired by his spiritual master to present their profound essence in the form of Srimad-Bhagavatam. Known as "the ripened fruit of the tree of Vedic literature," Srimad-Bhagavatam is the most complete and authoritative exposition of Vedic knowledge. After writing the Bhagavatam, Vyasa taught it to his son, Shukadeva Goswami, who later spoke the Bhagavatam to Maharaja Parikshit in an assembly of sages on the bank of the sacred Ganges River. Although Maharaja Parikshit was a great rajarshi (saintly king) and the emperor of the world, when he received notice of his death seven days in advance, he renounced his entire kingdom and retired to the bank of the Ganges to seek spiritual enlightenment. The questions of King Parikshit and Shukadeva Goswami's illuminating answers, concerning everything from the nature of the self to the origin of the universe, are the basis of Srimad-Bhagavatam. This edition of Bhagavatam is the only complete English translation with an elaborate and scholarly commentary, and it is the first edition widely available to the English-reading public. This work is the product of the scholarly and devotional effort of His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, the world's most distinguished teacher of Indian religious and philosophical thought. His Sanskrit scholarship and intimate familiarity with Vedic culture combine to reveal to the West a magnificent exposition of this important classic.

A synopsis of the Gita iii. A Run-Through of all the 18 chapters iv. The entire Srimad Bhagavad Gita in Sanskrit along with verse by verse romanised transliteration and English translation. The 'Who am I' question has always intrigued people of almost all civilisations. There have been numerous renowned philosophers who came out with their own answers to the question. The French philosopher René Descartes, who is known as the father of modern philosophy, gave a conclusive statement saying, "Cogito, ergo sum " which means "I think and therefore I am." He meant that it is only through our mind that we know that we exist and therefore if we can think, we exist. On the other hand, according to the teachings of the Srimad Bhagavad Gita, it is "I am and therefore I think!" Feelings such as happiness, sadness, fear, anger, desperation, hatred, etc are states of mind. You are happy or sad only when you think of whatever it is that gives you those feelings. It is the way you perceive different situations that cause to the different states of mind. On one hand, being attached to people, to objects, to one's work or accomplishments apart from their feeling of ownership of what they believe they possess, can give rise to the fear of the risk of losing them. This fear of losing leads people to take the wrong decisions which can have serious repercussions and cause irreversible damages in one's life. When the fear of losing has taken control over one's mind, they not only give up but they also give themselves lame excuses and baseless reasons in order to justify to themselves their decision to quit. The decision to quit, however, does not solve their problem or make them feel better! It only makes them even more despondent. The Srimad Bhagavad Gita begins with the chapter that talks about the feelings of despondency, weakness and confusion that took over Arjuna's intellect. His despondent state of mind was about to turn him, who was known as a valiant, intelligent and knowledgeable warrior king, into a coward, destroy his perspicacity and drive him towards delusion, failure, defeat and ignominy. However, Arjuna took an extremely important step that people in a despondent state of mind need to take in order to improve their situation and achieve their goals. What he did was to concede that he had an unclear mind, and asked Krishna to accept him as His pupil and teach him the way to counter the problem that he was facing. The knowledge and advice that Arjuna received from Krishna, changed his way of thinking and perceiving things as a result of which, Arjuna attained grand success. The Srimad Bhagavad Gita, which is a dialogue between Krishna and Arjuna as reported to Dhritarashtra by Sanjaya, teaches a step by step approach towards mastering one's own mind. The first chapter describes the despondent situation that Arjuna was in that made him look for excuses to give up shirk his responsibility as a warrior. Krishna teaches Arjuna the three paths known as the three kinds of Yoga to attain perfection. The three paths are those of Knowledge, of Devotion and of Righteous Action. One who reads and imbibes the teachings of Krishna learns to live a healthy, fearless, happy, peaceful, prosperous and fulfilling life that will also help them achieve great progress in the process of their Karmic evolution. May everyone stay blessed with the Divine Knowledge taught in the Srimad Bhagavad Gita and may everyone learn to lead a healthy, safe, peaceful, happy, blessed, victorious and satisfying life. Jai Shri Krishna
