Download or read book A Kid Out the Flats written by Johnny Stepney and published by Austin Macauley Publishers. This book was released on 2024-10-11 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Amidst the squalor of 1960s East End London, this visceral novel plunges readers into the young life of John Best, a boy whose path leads to a life of crime forged on the poverty-stricken streets. From the bustling docks to derelict council estates, A Kid Out the Flats chronicles Best’s descent into the city’s turbulent criminal underbelly. Stealing to survive alongside his gang of mates, John soon finds himself caught between warring factions of the IRA and Jamaican Yardie drug gangs. The narrative brings an unflinching authenticity to this tale of resilience against deprivation, violence, and familial strife. John’s misadventures unfurl in a close-knit yet volatile community, pulling no punches in depicting his brushes with these murderous organisations and London’s outlandish criminal outfits. Anecdotes of the East End’s most notorious personalities and crimes lend a gritty realism to this immersive journey through the area’s darkest eras and ugly drug trade realities. Yet it remains John Best’s story of triumph – a tenacious battle for survival, friendship, and family loyalties in a world where Irish paramilitaries clash with Jamaican drug lords on London’s unforgiving streets. Raw and uncompromising, A Kid Out the Flats plunges into the abyss of London’s criminal depths and one man’s resolute determination to conquer the demons that breed there, even as he navigates the dangerous waters between opposing criminal forces.

Book Synopsis Playing Under the Piano by : Hugh Bonneville
Download or read book Playing Under the Piano written by Hugh Bonneville and published by Other Press, LLC. This book was released on 2022-11-08 with total page 401 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A moving, laugh-out-loud memoir from one of today’s best-loved British actors, whose credits include Downton Abbey, Notting Hill, and Paddington. From getting his big break as Third Shepherd in the school nativity play, to mistaking a Hollywood star for an estate agent, Hugh Bonneville creates a brilliantly vivid picture of a career on stage and screen. What is it like working with Judi Dench and Julia Roberts, or playing Robert De Niro’s right leg, or not being Gary Oldman, twice? A wickedly funny storyteller, Bonneville also writes with poignancy about his father’s dementia and of his mother, whose life in the secret service emerged only after her death. Whether telling stories of working with divas, Dames, or a bear with a penchant for marmalade, this is a richly entertaining account of his life as an actor.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After the Second World War, Germany was an international pariah. Today, it has become a beacon of the Western world. But what makes this extraordinary nation tick? On Germany tells the story of a country reborn, from defeat in 1945 to the fall of the Berlin Wall, the painstaking reunification of "the two Germanies" and the Republic's return to the world stage as an economic colossus and European leader. Giles MacDonogh restores these momentous events of world history to their German context, from the food and drink that accompanied them to the deep-rooted provincialism behind the national story. Full of vivid and often whimsical vignettes of German life, this is a Germanophile's homage to the culture and people of a country he has known for decades.

Book Synopsis Critical Perspectives on Millennials by : Bridey Heing
Download or read book Critical Perspectives on Millennials written by Bridey Heing and published by Enslow Publishing, LLC. This book was released on 2017-07-15 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Millennials are much discussed and debated by the public, media, and government, with many competing ideas about the age group. Including those born between the mid-1980s and early 2000s, the generation is sometimes seen as entitled and lacking in work ethic, while others feel they have proven themselves as innovative and forward thinking. Today, as millennials enter the workforce and begin shaping the future of the country, understanding how they fit into society is extremely important. In this book, arguments about millennials written by experts, researchers, politicians, and others will be laid out side by side so that students can form their own opinions not only about this critical generation, but about how society confronts change and generational differences.
