Book Synopsis A Hermetic Compendium of Typographic Masonry by : Tony Côme
Download or read book A Hermetic Compendium of Typographic Masonry written by Tony Côme and published by . This book was released on 2014-05-27 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Book Synopsis Bruno Munari: Square, Circle, Triangle by : Bruno Munari
Download or read book Bruno Munari: Square, Circle, Triangle written by Bruno Munari and published by Princeton Architectural Press. This book was released on 2016-01-05 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the early 1960s Italian design legend Bruno Munari published his visual case studies on shapes: Circle, Square, and, a decade later, Triangle. Using examples from ancient Greece and Egypt, as well as works by Buckminster Fuller, Le Corbusier, and Alvar Aalto, Munari invests the three shapes with specific qualities: the circle relates to the divine, the square signifies safety and enclosure, and the triangle provides a key connective form for designers. One of the great designers of the twentieth century, Munari contributed to the fields of painting, sculpture, design, and photography while teaching throughout his seventy-year career. After World War II he began to focus on book design, creating children's books known for their simplicity and playfulness.

This book was released on 2006-06-01 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Working with type and image and the integration of these two elements to create persuasive and effective design pieces are the foundations of good graphic design. Yet, very little practical information exists for these tasks. This book changes all it. It gives designers the practical know-how to combine type and image for dynamic effect as well as to use them in contrast to create tension and meaning in design. Creating strong layouts is the most important as well as the most challenging of any project. This book inspires through excellence by exhibiting great design work then deconstructing the processes in simple visual terms. Type, Image, Message: Merging Pictures and Ideas looks at this respected art form while providing practical information that can be used by any designer wishing to hone the skills needed to merge type with images in an inspired manner.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As a beginning design student, you need to learn to think like a designer, to visualize ideas and concepts, as well as objects. In the second edition of Diagramming the Big Idea, Jeffrey Balmer and Michael T. Swisher illustrate how you can create and use diagrams to clarify your understanding of both particular projects and organizing principles and ideas. With accessible, step-by-step exercises that interweave full color diagrams, drawings and virtual models, the authors clearly show you how to compose meaningful and useful diagrams. As you follow the development of the four project groups drawn from the authors’ teaching, you will become familiar with architectural composition concepts such as proportion, site, form, hierarchy and spatial construction. In addition, description and demonstration essays extend concepts to show you more examples of the methods used in the projects. Whether preparing for a desk critique, or any time when a fundamental insight can help to resolve a design problem, this new and expanded edition is your essential studio resource.
Book Synopsis Binding Space: The Book as Spatial Practice by : Marian Macken
Download or read book Binding Space: The Book as Spatial Practice written by Marian Macken and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-04-17 with total page 435 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Books orient, intrigue, provoke and direct the reader while editing, interpreting, encapsulating, constructing and revealing architectural representation. Binding Space: The Book as Spatial Practice explores the role of the book form within the realm of architectural representation. It proposes the book itself as another three-dimensional, complementary architectural representation with a generational and propositional role within the design process. Artists’ books in particular – that is, a book made as an original work of art, with an artist, designer or architect as author – have certain qualities and characteristics, quite different from the conventional presentation and documentation of architecture. Paginal sequentiality, the structure and objecthood of the book, and the act of reading create possibilities for the book as a site for architectural imagining and discourse. In this way, the form of the book affects how the architectural work is conceived, constructed and read. In five main sections, Binding Space examines the relationships between the drawing, the building and the book. It proposes thinking through the book as a form of spatial practice, one in which the book is cast as object, outcome, process and tool. Through the book, we read spatial practice anew.

Book Synopsis Building in France, Building in Iron, Building in Ferroconcrete by : Sigfried Giedion

This book was released on 1995-09-01 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With Building in France, Building in Iron, Building in Ferroconcretre (1928)—published now for the first time in English—Sigfried Giedion positioned himself as an eloquent advocate of modern architecture. This was the first book to exalt Le Corbusier as the artistic champion of the new movement. It also spelled out many of the tenets of Modernism that are now regarded as myths, among them the impoverishment of nineteenth-century architectural thinking and practice, the contrasting vigor of engineering innovations, and the notion of Modernism as technologically preordained.
Download or read book Beauty written by Andrea Lipps and published by Thames & Hudson. This book was released on 2016 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Beauty celebrates design objects and practices that are exuberant, ethereal, atmospheric, experiential, exceptional or sublime. Objects of beauty provoke immediate reactions and demand judgment - asking us to redefine what is lovely or grotesque, formed or malformed, virtuous or subversive. They exalt experience as a living, unfolding exchange between people and things. Beauty honours the voices of designers from 26 countries around the world by conducting original interviews about their works and processes - showing that aesthetic innovation can drive change, whether materially, structurally or ethically. Beauty is an object to be touched, smelled and savoured. Each of the book's seven sections is printed on a luxurious Japanese matte paper with its own fifth accent colour. A smaller signature of pages - printed on its own creamy pink paper at the centre of the book - is called the heart. It contains front and back matter and the responses from designers to the questions: What comes to mind when you hear the word beauty? What is the most beautiful time of day? What is the most beautiful place you've visited? The authors/edited selected the designers for the book and exhibition with a group of international curatorial advisors: Adélia Borges (Brazil), Claire Catterall (England), Kenya Hara (Japan), Mugendi M'Rithaa (South Africa), Sarah Scaturro (United States), Annemartine van Kesteren (Netherlands) and Suvi Saloniemi (Finland).

Book Synopsis Style-Architecture and Building-Art by : Hermann Muthesius
Download or read book Style-Architecture and Building-Art written by Hermann Muthesius and published by Getty Publications. This book was released on 1994-12-15 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Style-Architecture and Building-Art is Hermann Muthesius’s classic criticism of nineteenth century architecture. Now published for the first time in English, this pivotal text represents the first serious effort by Muthesius to define the elements of early modernist architecture according to notions of realism and simplicity. Although Muthesius is known best in Anglo-American architectural literature for his studies of the English house, his scholarship constituted a wide-ranging modernist polemic emanating from the German realist movement of the late 1890s. Notions that were introduced in Style-Architecture and Building-Art became common in later modernist historiography: disdain for the nineteenth century’s artistic eclecticism and lack of originality; appreciation of the material and industrial aspects of building technology, and, above all, a simpler approach to design. Muthesius' critique of stylistic architecture is not only linked to the development of the Deutsche Werkbund movement, but also can be viewed more broadly as a cornerstone of the modern movement. In his introduction, Standford Anderson situates Muthesius and his work in turn-of-the-century architectural discourse and analyzes his vision of a new form of architecture. Anderson also discusses the rationale underlying the call for cultural renewal, the role of English architectural models in Muthesius’s thought, critical differences between the first and second editions of Style-Architecture and Building-Art, the influence of the Jugendstil and Art Nouveau movements on Muthesius and, in turn, the influence of Muthesius on the Deutsche Werkbund movement.

Book excerpt: Arno Nollen's photographs of young girls are a shocking slap in the face. They also ask a fundamental question: Are you a voyeur if your subjects are complicit? The girls here, sporting bruises, tattoos, see-through pantyhose, hard looks, freckles, and often nothing at all, are poised between childhood and adulthood. Even the simple headshot portraits provide an uncomfortable gaze at an uncomfortable age.
