All of the original photos and illustrations are also reproduced. Vero Shaw was a leading authority and editor of dog books and periodicals in the late nineteenth century, but this particular comprehensive work stands as a final testimony to his immense knowledge of the subject. Each breed was discussed in detail. Their physical points, temperaments, and special abilities are given; celebrated dogs are discussed and pictured; and the history of the breed and pedigrees of famous champions are also provided. This classic work strongly influenced the direction of dog breeding in its time and for decades after. Also, THE DOG BOOK By James Watson - First published in London, 1906, in two volumes and limited numbers. Now a rare and much sought after work. Its full title is "A Popular History of the Dog, with Practical Information as to Care and Management of House, Kennel, and Exhibition Dogs; and Descriptions of All the Important Breeds. The chapters are penned by experts on the particular breeds and this book is now considered one of the finest reference works in the English language. Also, A HISTORY AND DESCRIPTION OF THE MODERN DOGS (SPORTING DIVISION) OF GREAT BRITAIN AND IRELAND -The author of these three titles was Rawdon B. Lee. He was well known as the editor of "The Field," and also author of the histories of "The Fox Terrier," "The Collie," and other important dog books. The three volumes were devoted to every breed of dog found in Great Britain and Ireland. Every aspect of their history, breeding and management is discussed in great detail. A particular feature of these books were the numerous detailed full page drawings by the famous dog artist Arthur Wardle, which are reproduced here in fine detail.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Noble and dignified, if somewhat tousled, the Otterhound is no longer called upon to hunt his namesake quarry, though he now makes a reliable companion dog for an active family who knows how to keep him busy. This giant hunting scenthound is blessed with a boisterous nature, a sonorous voice and an irrepressible love of mud, traits that may not be welcome in every household. No dog as big (and messy) as the Otterhound is for everyone, and the Otterhound;though personable, even-tempered and friendly;is no exception.Author Juliette Cunliffe, a recognized authority on hound breeds the world over, paints a pleasing but realistic portrait of this majestic hound among hounds, offering sensible information about the breed's training, feeding, care and maintenance. Students of the Otterhound will welcome the author's concise but complete history of the breed in England as well as American breeder Elizabeth Conway's retelling of the breed's history in the United States.Like all editions in Kennel Club Books' Comprehensive Owner's Guide series, Otterhound discusses the breed standard, breed characteristics, puppy selection, owner requirements, healthcare and much more. Surely all admirers of this noble breed will welcome this Special Rare-Breed Edition as a cherished addition to their canine libraries.

This book was released on 2015-07-10 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book (Otterhound ) provides you with a through description and positive attributes of this breed including origin, purpose, history, normal heights and weights, acceptable colors and behavioral traits. Our books differ from most books on dog breeds because this book also provides you with a comprehensive and authoritative source of all the known predisposed hereditary health syndromes for the breed. You will find extensive references for each problem described. We also provide the breed club address for this breed and a list of laboratories and organizations that can provide professional help and information. As a small animal veterinarian, I have always been intrigued by the way dogs have been bred to fill a purpose in life and further impressed that they also tend to love performing that service. Greyhounds and other sight hounds are built for speed with aerodynamic bodies consisting of small head, deep chest, narrow waist and large leg muscles. On the other hand Dachshunds take their name from German words meaning badger dog and they use their long nose, long body and short legs to both track, enter and dig into badger dens. After developing a practice that catered to clients with show dogs, my interest in each breed continued to grow as I studied and observed more and more about the unique predisposition and incidence of health problems in each breed. Breeders of purebred dogs for show were a challenge and inspirational for me to research and help them with their unique health problems. Historically references to hereditary problems are scattered throughout various Veterinary medical texts and journals such as ophthalmology, neurology, gastroenterology, cardiovascular and dermatology. This book, as well as the other books and articles I have written, is researched and compiled with the intention to provide both veterinarians and dog owners with comprehensive and authoritative predisposition information under the breed name. At the date of this publication, The American Kennel Club Canine Health Foundation and the The Kennel Club of England reports over 400 known hereditary health syndromes throughout the dog kingdom. At the writing of my first book in 1983, less than 50 hereditary issues are able to be predicted and or diagnosed. Sequencing of the canine genome, DNA tests, metabolic testing including blood tests and urine testing; plus, phenotypic examinations such as radiographs, ultrasound, and CERF or OFA eye registry exams by a Board Certified Veterinary Ophthalmologist have advanced the science of breed related health and behavioral problems. This book will provide veterinarians, researchers, pet owners and breeders with a comprehensive guide to all the known problems veterinarians and dog owners should consider during pet selection and throughout each life stage of our canine friends.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Terriers of England and Wales is a companion volume to the author’s The Terriers of Scotland and Ireland (2003). It is more concerned with the working and companion qualities of the various English and Welsh breeds and with their origins than with show dogs and grooming. Cummins delves deeply into the history of the indigenous terriers of England and Wales (including some breeds that are no longer with us and others that are not yet recognized by national kennel clubs) to determine what they once were and what they are today. From the diminutive Yorkie to the majestic Airedale, the author explores similarities and differences of the gallant breeds that make up the English and Welsh terriers. With this information, prospective owners can make informed choices when choosing a canine companion while breeders have the knowledge needed to develop an improved breeding program. After reading The Terriers of England and Wales both owner and breeder will have a new appreciation for these finest of dogs.

Completely updated and revised, the second edition of The Dog covers four areas of compelling interest: the bond between dogs and humans, canine behavior, canine health and disease, and canine nutrition. Aiming to enhance the human-dog bond, author Case uses clear, understandable writing to explain selective breeding, training principles, solution to common behavior problems, diet and nutrition, and preventative health care. Case liberally uses distinctive figures and tables, current references plus suggested readings, and a thorough glossary to aid in comprehension. More in-depth that most dog books, The Dog will prove to be an indispensable tool for undergraduate companion animal courses, veterinary technician courses, and dog care/training courses. In addition, it will serve as a valuable resource for professional breeders, trainers, exhibitors, and veterinary clinicians.
