Download or read book Developments of International Trade Theory written by Takashi Negishi and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-19 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Developments of International Trade Theory offers the life-long reflections of a distinguished Japanese scholar who pioneered the application of general equilibrium theory to international trade. Written in a style that makes it easily accessible to scholars and students, the book combines standard topics on international trade with a discussion of the evolution of the theory and as well as recent discussions on topics such as immiserizing growth. This book consists of two parts. Part I examines the historical progression of international trade theory, and Part II addresses the modern theory and recent developments of international trade. In this way the book offers a comprehensive evaluation of the non-monetary problems of international economics. Taking advantage of the publication of this new edition, the author includes two new chapters, “Adam Smith and Disequilibrium Economic Theory” and “Complete Specialization in Classical Economics,” which readers will profit from reading after they have studied the basic theories of international trade in the main part of the book.

This yields a compact treatment of standard theory, clarifies some errors and confusions, and produces some new departures. In particular, the book (i) gives unified treatments of comparative statics and welfare, (ii) sheds new light on the factor-price equalization issue, (iii) treats the modern specific-factor model in parallel with the usual Heckscher-Ohlin one, (iv) analyses the balance of payments in general equilibrium with flexible and fixed prices, (v) studies imperfect competition and intra-industry trade.

Book Synopsis Neoclassical International Economics by : L. Gomes
Download or read book Neoclassical International Economics written by L. Gomes and published by Springer. This book was released on 1990-02-19 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is about the history of neoclassical international economics, the century-old dominant paradigm of teaching and research in the area of international economic relations. At a time when, in so many of its areas, economics is showing a tendency to go 'back to its roots', a critical historical survey of what has been called 'the queen realm of economics' seems most appropriate. Befitting its title, the prestige of international economics is high among social science disciplines. This book tells the story of that achievement from the beginning of the neoclassical period (1890) to contemporary developments. '...a very helpful account of the historical development of the ideas in international economics. It covers both the real economy and the financial, ie balance-of-payments, aspects. As such it provides a useful perspective on what forms the basis of our understanding of international economic relations. It will be of help and appeal to students and will provide an additional source for those who wish to add to their knowledge in this field.' T.M.Rybczynski
Book Synopsis International Economics by : Henry Thompson
Download or read book International Economics written by Henry Thompson and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2006 with total page 522 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This text integrates the microeconomics of trade with concepts from open economy macroeconomics. The emphasis is on the powerful forces of international competition and the limitations of government policy. Economics began with a political debate over tariffs and the politics continue. Domestic industries lobby for protection against foreign competitors and for export subsidies. Government policy makers favor their pet industries in return for lobby money and votes. Meanwhile, other industries lobby for free trade. Governments worldwide tentatively negotiate free trade agreements while international financial markets determine the effectiveness of their fiscal and monetary policies. Wages, capital returns, and national income rise and fall with international commerce. The text covers these issues of international trade and finance. The trade theory is based on partial equilibrium market analysis, constant cost and neoclassical general equilibrium, the factor proportions model, and various theories of industrial organization."--Book cover.
Book Synopsis International Economics by : Giancarlo Gandolfo
Download or read book International Economics written by Giancarlo Gandolfo and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 333 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is no lack of good international economics textbooks ranging from the elementary to the advanced, so that an additional drop in this ocean calls for an explanation. In the present writer's opinion, there seems still to be room for a textbook which can be used in both undergraduate and graduate courses, and which contains a wide range of topics, including those usually omitted from other textbooks. These are the intentions behind the present book, which is an outcrop from undergraduate and graduate courses in international economics that the author has been holding at the University of Rome since 1974, and from his on going research work in this field. Accordingly the work is organized as two-books in-one by distributing the material between text and appendices. The treatment in the body of this book is directed to undergraduate students and is mainly confined to graphic analysis and to some elementary algebra, but it is assumed that the reader will have a good knowledge of basic microeconomics and macroeconomics (so that the usual review material on production functions, indifference curves, standard Keynesian model, etc. , etc. has been omitted) . Each chapter is followed by an appendix in which the treatment is mainly mathematical, and where (i) the topics explained in the text are treated at a level suitable for advanced undergraduate or first-year graduate students and (ii) generalizations and/or topics not treated in the text (including some of those at the frontiers of research) are formally examined.
