Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Organometallic Compounds of Zinc and Magnesium The progress of Chemistry is so rapid that it is becoming a matter of ever-increasing difficulty to keep abreast of the modern developments of the science. The volume of periodical literature is so enormous that few can hope to read, far loss assimilate, all that is published. The preparation of summaries has therefore become a necessity, and has led to the publication of various well-known journals devoted to the abstraction of original papers. For obvious reasons, however, these do not fully supply the wants of advanced students and research workers, and it is now generally recognised that monographs on special subjects are also needed. This series of monographs is intended primarily for Advanced and Honours students. As each monograph is written by an author with special knowledge of the subject, and copious references are given, it is hoped that the series will prove useful also to those engaged in research. Book excerpt: This volume covers both basic and advanced aspects of organometallic chemistry of all metals and catalysis. In order to present a comprehensive view of the subject, it provides broad coverage of organometallic chemistry itself. The catalysis section includes the challenging activation and fictionalization of the main classes of hydrocarbons and the industrially crucial heterogeneous catalysis. Summaries and exercises are provides at the end of each chapter, and the answers to these exercises can be found at the back of the book. Beginners in inorganic, organic and organometallic chemistry, as well as advanced scholars and chemists from academia and industry will find much value in this title.

Providing an invaluable resource, this volume contains analysed, evaluated and distilled information on the latest in organometallic chemistry research and emerging fields. The reviews range in scope and include π-coordinated arene metal complexes and catalysis by arene exchange, rylenes as chromophores in catalysts for CO2 photoreduction, metal nodes and metal sites in metal–organic frameworks, developments in molecular precursors for CVD and ALD, and multiphoton luminescence processes in f-element containing compounds.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The effects of heat and light on chemical reactions have long been known and un derstood. Ultrasound has been known to promote chemical reactions for the past 60 years, but despite this, it did not attract the attention of synthetic chemists until recently. This arose historically from early studies which concentrated almost exclu sively on reactions in aqueous media and was also, in some measure, due to the availability of suitable technology. Since the early 1980s a plethora of literature has appeared of direct interest to synthetic chemists and the field has been developing rapidly. The aim of this book is to bring the background of this fascinating field to the atten tion of a wider audience. It explores the literature to date and attempts to indicate other areas in which ultrasound may be exploited. It also hopes to explode some of the myths surrounding this area which have hitherto been regarded by the synthetic community as a bit of a black art! Existing books and reviews have tended to concentrate on the physics of sonochem istry and to catalogue the instances in which ultrasound has proved useful in tack ling synthetic problems. Our aim has been to stress the relevance of this technique to synthetic chemists and we have included a section which deals with the practical aspects of carrying out these reactions.
