Book Synopsis Transforming the Doctor's Office by : Ann Sloan Devlin
Download or read book Transforming the Doctor's Office written by Ann Sloan Devlin and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-04-24 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the parking lot to the exam room, doctors can improve the physical surroundings for their patients, yet often they do not. Given the numerous and varied duties doctors must perform, it may fall to the design profession to implement changes, many based on research, to improve healthcare experiences. From location and layout to furnishings and positive distractions, this book provides evidence-based information about the physical environment to help doctors and those who design medical workspaces improve the experience of health care. Along with its research base, a special aspect of this book is the integration of relevant historical material about the office practice of physicians at the beginning of the twentieth century. Many of their design solutions are viable today. In addition to improving the physical design of healthcare facilities, author Ann Sloan Devlin is the granddaughter, daughter, and niece of physicians, as well as the granddaughter and daughter of nurses. She worked in a hospital during college, and has visited a good many practitioners’ offices in medical office buildings and ambulatory care settings. This book addresses an overlooked location of care: the doctor’s office suite.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As practitioners, it is easy to fall into the trap of exaggerated self-importance as we complete our education and move into the world of the professional. At that moment, the aura of being something special is there for the taking. We have worked hard, accomplished a major objective in life goals, attained the cultural level where respect has been secured with the potential to earn income such that we should never have to want for anything of a practical nature. Each of us during our training and schooling has striven to excel to demonstrate superior ability as we competed against other students for recognition of our accomplishments and our abilities. Yet, once we achieve the goal of becoming the professional that we aspire to be, we must step back and reflect on what we have and who we are. A successful practitioner is one who realizes that respect is a two-way street.

Book Synopsis International Higher Education’s Scholar-Practitioners by : Bernhard Streitwieser
Download or read book International Higher Education’s Scholar-Practitioners written by Bernhard Streitwieser and published by Symposium Books Ltd. This book was released on 2016-03-01 with total page 345 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The idea of the professional who bridges both research and practice has been largely overlooked and at times even disregarded by the academic and administrative structures that govern activity in higher education today. In international higher education, the number of students who now engage in mobility and exchange has expanded globally, along with the administrative cadre that manages all facets of internationalization, and the quickly growing scholarly attention to understanding the phenomenon. In this process, two distinct professional categories have emerged: those who ‘study it’ and those who ‘do it’ – the scholars and the practitioners. Practitioners are seen as those who manage the daily logistical flow of students and personnel around the globe, while scholars are seen as those who conduct research, collect and analyze data, and publish findings to inform, improve, and justify the activity. Yet this dichotomy is overly simplistic, outdated, and excludes the large and growing class of hybrid scholar-practitioners who now engage regularly in both kinds of activity. It is this rapidly growing population of bridge builders that are profiled and discussed in this book through critical essays on the notion of the scholar-practitioner and its implication for the further development of international higher education. The chapters include detailed analyses from university faculty, senior international officers and other high-level administrators, directors of research centers, key leaders from influential professional associations and private organizations, managers of study abroad and exchange, and graduate students. This book launches a much-needed dialogue about the perception and reality, potential and promise, of the scholar-practitioner in higher education today. It will be of relevance to a wide variety of readers, from those within universities and organizations to those who are outside observers of higher education.
Book Synopsis Self-Motivation for Professional Practitioners by : Dennis H. Reid
Download or read book Self-Motivation for Professional Practitioners written by Dennis H. Reid and published by Charles C Thomas Publisher. This book was released on 2022-04-04 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For professional practitioners in the human services to successfully fulfill their important job roles they must be highly motivated. In many human service agencies, however, practitioners encounter situations that can seriously impede their motivation to work diligently as well as reduce their enjoyment on the job. For example, working with limited resources, unrealistic caseloads, problematic supervision, or interfering events beyond an agency’s control (e.g., the COVID-19 pandemic) can all reduce practitioner motivation and work enjoyment. This book describes how human service practitioners can achieve and maintain self-motivation to be professionally productive and experience enjoyment on the job during both the best and worst of times. Self-motivation is presented in terms of practitioners actively using strategies developed through research and application in behavior analysis and therapy to promote their work productivity and enjoyment. Self-motivation strategies presented are likewise based on the specific advice of highly successful practitioners in the human services. Some strategies presented are robust in nature, in that they can be applied across varying situations to promote self-motivation and enhance overall quality of work life. Other strategies are more situation-specific, being tailored to overcoming particular obstacles to motivation that practitioners often face in human service agencies. The intent of this book is to provide practical information that effectively equips practitioners to be in control of their work motivation and thereby work consistently in a manner that is professionally productive and personally enjoyable.
