Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over 100 years ago Roald Amundsen on March 7, 1912 announced his success in reaching the Geographic South Pole to the world. This is the story about the construction of the South Pole Station in Antarctica in 1973-4 by Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB71), also known as the ICE Battalion, which the author was a member of. The difficulties encountered in the construction of the station were monumental; enduring temperatures reaching 45 degrees below zero with wind chill factors reaching 80 below. This station was comprised of a 52 foot high geodesic dome, weather balloon launch station and an observation tower for monitoring auroral phenomena. This Battalion was on the ICE for almost five months and worked around the clock to complete the project. This was an amazing fact when you consider that most of the construction was completed in freezing temperatures at a high altitude; for the South Pole is nearly two miles high by construction engineers less than 20 years old. The physical and mental stresses of working in this "frozen desert" took its tolls on these young men. This story chronicles the authors experience in this hostile environment, with bawdy engineers; humorous antics; hard drinking and temporary insanities and the authors faith journey amid the beautify and grandeur of the earth's last frontier: Antarctica. The title of the book is also the motto of the ICE Battalion-it refers to our mission and our R&R (rest and recreation) in Christchurch, New Zealand. "THE ICE IS NICE AND CHEE-CHEE IS PEACHY"

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Is there a supreme principle that governs and unifies all things? Have you heard of the new scientific theory that has unified science and creationism? The Principles of Causal Conspiracy exposes new frontiers in science, mathematics, logic and the mind. It reveals the inner workings of the universe in a simple mathematical and scientific theory that explains the existence of space and time, fundamental particles, black holes, the Big Bang, the forces of nature, miracles, spirituality, divinity and creationism. Is it possible that we have found the ultimate unification of science, mathematics and religion? The Principles of Causal Conspiracy reveals a deep and beautiful link between mathematics, string theory, the Riemann Hypothesis, quantum physics, logic, the human mind and creationism. Michael Mark Anthony has written two books (book one and two) that give readers a whole new perspective on the controversial link between science and religion. In book one, Michael Mark Anthony reveals a new theoretical framework for unification of science, mathematics, the mind, and deism. The new theory touches all known subjects, including religion, quantum theory and cosmology. Book two reveals a deep link between Cosmology, Black holes, the Big Bang, Quantum theory, String theory, and Mathematics.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on a series of lectures for adult students, this lively and entertaining book proves that, far from being a dusty, dull subject, geometry is in fact full of beauty and fascination. The author's infectious enthusiasm is put to use in explaining many of the key concepts in the field, starting with the Golden Number and taking the reader on a geometrical journey via Shapes and Solids, through the Fourth Dimension, finishing up with Einstein's Theories of Relativity. Equally suitable as a gift for a youngster or as a nostalgic journey back into the world of mathematics for older readers, John Barnes' book is the perfect antidote for anyone whose maths lessons at school are a source of painful memories. Where once geometry was a source of confusion and frustration, Barnes brings enlightenment and entertainment. In this second edition, stimulated by recent lectures at Oxford, further material and extra illustrations have been added on many topics including Coloured Cubes, Chaos and Crystals.

To that end, Noel de Nevers has written an engaging overview of the subject. While based on the fundamentals of chemical engineering, the treatment is accessible to readers with only one year of college chemistry. In addition to discussions of individual air pollutants and the theory and practice of air pollution control devices, de Nevers devotes about half the book to topics that influence device selection and design, such as atmospheric models and U.S. air pollution law. The generous number of end-of-chapter problems are designed to develop more complex thinking about the concepts presented and integrate them with readers personal experienceincreasing the likelihood of deeper understanding.
