Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On 2 September 2006, RAF Nimrod XV230 was on a routine mission in southern Afghanistan when she suffered a catastrophic mid-air fire, leading to the total loss of the aircraft and the death of the 12 crew and two mission specialists on board. An RAF Board of Inquiry (2007) concluded that the loss was caused by a fuel escape and its ignition by contact with an exposed element of the Cross-Feed/Supplementary Cooling Pack (SCP) duct. The Nimrod Review was set up to examine the arrangements for ensuring airworthiness and safe operation of the Nimrod MR2, to assess where responsibility lies for any failure and what lessons are to be learned. The Review concludes the most likely source of fuel was an overflow during air-to-air refuelling and agrees with the ignition source. It highlights design flaws introduced at three stages in the life of XV230, and failure to heed previous potentially relevant incidents. The Nimrod safety case drawn up between 2001 and 2005 is found to be error-strewn and incompetent and characterised by a general malaise, an assumption that the Nimrod was safe because it had flown for 30 years. The Review criticises BAE Systems, the MoD Nimrod Integrated Project Team, QinetiQ and individual personnel from those organisations involved in the safety case. Organisational causes are also identified: in-service support for equipment; major organisational changes between 1998 and 2008; and delays in procurement of the Nimrod MRA4 replacement. Lessons to be learned are profound and wide-ranging. Recommendations are made for a new approach in eight key areas: principles (leadership, independence, people, simplicity); the airworthiness regime; safety cases; aged aircraft; personnel strategy; industry strategy; procurement; safety culture. The loss of XV230 was avoidable and a systemic breach of the Military Covenant.

What followed was six days of tension and terror. It was finally ended when the SAS launched a daring rescue mission, broadcast live on television. Millions held their breath, waiting to see the outcome of Operation Nimrod. Buy this book to learn the truth about one of the most dramatic rescue missions ever undertaken by the SAS.

Book excerpt: One of Literary Hub’s Favorite Books of the Year “Seethingly assured…like all the best horror, [Follow Me to Ground] is an impressive balancing act between judicious withholding and unnerving reveals.” —The Guardian A “legitimately frightening” (The New York Times Book Review) debut novel about an otherworldly young woman, her father, and her lover that culminates in a shocking moment of betrayal. “You’ve never encountered a father-daughter story like Rainsford’s slim debut” (Entertainment Weekly). Ada and her father, touched by the power to heal illness, live on the edge of a village where they help sick locals—or “Cures”—by cracking open their damaged bodies or temporarily burying them in the reviving, dangerous Ground nearby. Ada, a being both more and less than human, is mostly uninterested in the Cures, until she meets a man named Samson—and they quickly strike up an affair. Soon, Ada is torn between her old way of life and new possibilities with her lover, and eventually she comes to a decision that will forever change Samson, the town, and the Ground itself. “Visceral in its descriptions…this unworldly story is a well-crafted and eerie exploration of desire…beautifully intoxicating” (Shelf Awareness). In Ada, award-winning author Sue Rainsford has created an utterly bewitching heroine, one who challenges conventional ideas of womanhood and the secrets of the body. “A triumph of imagination and myth-bending…equal parts beauty and horror [Follow Me to Ground is] unlike anything you will read this year” (Téa Obreht).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Bible barely mentions his name, but people of antiquity knew him well. Ancient historians recorded substantial information about him. Who was Nimrod? How could such a man be of such importance to today's believer? God's history is replete with accounts of His followers suffering terrible persecution. People of today's world are largely unaware of a lesser-known story, written by the blood of many believers at a time following God's destruction of the Old World. Nimrod was born into a New World, recently recreated by God. This virgin creation was untainted by the wickedness of the Old World. However, innocence did not last long. Eight people had traveled God's floodwaters of judgment in the security of His ark, but the curse of sin still tainted their souls. The prince of darkness wasted no time sowing seeds of rebellion in fertile hearts. He handpicked Nimrod to transform the New World into a cauldron of rebellion. The post-flood world began in present-day Iraq. Several cities conquered by Nimrod are still in existence today. The events happening in present-day Iraq are not coincidental. The world will witness more conflict and fulfilled Bible prophecy in this land until God's Seed returns to fulfill the ancient prophecy recorded in Genesis 3:15.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Not only is the Bible full of strong women… it is full of strong black women. While it is often underplayed by mainstream Christianity, the majority of the Bible took place in Africa, and involved many women of color. In this study we'll look at the lives and lineages of the following women: + Hagar - Abraham's Egyptian wife. + Tamar - The Canaanite mother of Judah's twin sons. + Miriam - The older sister of Moses + Zipporah - Moses' Midianite wife. + Bathsheba - King Solomon's Canaanite mother. + Jezebel - King Ahab's wife from the line of Ham. + The Queen of Sheba - The Ethiopia queen that came to visit King Solomon. + Mary Magdalene - The woman with seven devils cast out by Christ. The presence of these women in the Bible is often a sticking point for many because most of them descended from the line of Ham. Those that didn't come from the line of Ham were Hebrews, which were often mistaken as descendants of Ham. If you've never done a study on who these women are, which lines they come from, and the roles they play in history, then make sure you grab this book.

Book excerpt: The episodic history of Britain’s infamous military reconnaissance aircraft, by the author of Vulcan Test Pilot and aviation expert who witnessed it all. The scrapping of the Nimrod program has been one of the most controversial events in the military aviation world for many years. For most of its operational life, from 1969 to date, its contribution to the defense of the realm and its role in offensive duties was, of necessity, often shrouded in secrecy. It was the “eye in the sky” that was vital to a host of activities—from anti-submarine and anti-surface warfare, to support of land battles throughout the world, to the Falklands campaign, to combating drug-running. Now the UK is bereft of such a multitasking reconnaissance aircraft. The full story of the Nimrod, and its significance, has now been told. Tony Blackman, who was there at the beginning, test-flew nearly every aircraft, and was at Kinloss on the very day the project was canceled, has written this timely book, covering every facet of its history, its weapons system developments, and its tragic accidents. He writes in an approachable way, making technical subjects understandable, but his conclusions will, inevitably, not be welcomed by everyone.

Book excerpt: In this radiant collection of love poems, Mohja Kahf makes a feast and a celebration, in language and of language. Everyone is invited: "Never drink while another is thirsty. You first. No, you. We could dance like this forever." From dizzying bursts of eros to wry acceptance of mortality, Kahf translates her robust Arabic literary lineage into the regal command: "Always multiply the gift." Pleasure shimmers off these pages with spiritual undertones, glancing subtly at Quran, at hadith. The opening poem, "When I Come to You," echoes a Hadith Qudsi in which God says, "When my worshipper comes to Me walking, I go to her running." With its joyful succession of images calling for reciprocity, this poem, and the collection, honor the mutual desire for union between Creator and creature as a foundation for expressions of human desire. From that generous place, we leap into lyric delight in the physicality of the erotic. It is the reader's task and reward to embrace "this beautiful clumsiness." -from the Preface by Rahat Kurd

The answer lies buried in the legends of the Knights Templar, within the rituals of the secretive Freemasons and, most significantly of all, inside the bowels of the Smithsonian Institution. The problem for Cam and Amanda? If they go rummaging around the Smithsonian, they may find themselves buried alongside the ancient giants. This stand-alone novel is part of the "Templars in America" series.
