Book excerpt: Enjoy an "easy to read" New Testament for struggling readers, beginner readers and people with dyslexia. This is a large Bible, the size is 8.5" by 11". The font used is Dyslexie. It has a soft cover with a matt finish. There are several styles of covers to choose from. Beginner's Bible, Student Bible, Large Print Bible, Dyslexic Bible and Children's Bible Editor's note: For this "Simply the Bible" New Testament, we have used the World English Bible (WEB) as our main source, because it is in Public Domain andis a good easy-to-read translation. There were a few areas where we referred back to the more poetic, traditional wording, diverting from some of the terms found in the WEB. One example would be the use of "the army of the sky" in Acts 7:42; we preferred to use the more traditional "the host of heaven." Also, when there was an implied meaning for the use of a word within the context of a passage we took the liberty of stating what the word meant using a few words rather than just a direct single word translation of the Greek, making the text more readable. In all such cases the original languages were carefully checked to make sure that our uses of the terms were in harmony with the reputable Greek lexicons and grammar resources in both printed and digital formats. We also comparedother translations, and considered the wording of other Public Domain translations, such as the King James Version. Therefore "Simply the Bible" is not a new translation of the Scriptures. We just wanted to produce a readable New Testament, using an enhanced dyslexic font that may take some of the struggle out of reading the Scriptures, for those with dyslexia. To remove distractions, we have also removed the footnotes referencing alternate readings found in Greek New Testaments from which some other Bibles have been translated. These easy to read bibles are suitable for all ages and can be read with your traditional bible. Our mission is to help people to read, understand, and apply the "Word of God" to their lives by providing Bible Translations, Bible Commentaries, and Bible Studies in simple modern English. This Bible edition concentrates on the translation of all chapters and verses of both the Old and New Testaments. Sample chapter: Book of John About this book John's Gospel is one of the four Gospels. 'Gospel' means 'good news'. The Gospels are the books that tell us about Jesus' life on earth. John was one of the three disciples who knew the Lord Jesus Christ best. John called himself 'the disciple that Jesus loved'. We think that John wrote his Gospel in the city called Ephesus. He wrote it some years after Matthew, Mark and Luke wrote their Gospels. He wrote it about 70 years after Christ's birth. John's Gospel is different from the other three Gospels. It does not describe many things that the Gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke do describe. But it does include many things that are not in the other Gospels. John tells us much more about who Jesus was. John shows us Jesus as the Son of God - the only person who can cause us to live. John teaches us more about God's Spirit, too. At the beginning of his Gospel, John calls Jesus 'the Word'. Chapter 1 The Word became human 1 In the beginning, the Word was already there. The Word was with God. The Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 God made all things by the Word. God did not make anything without him. 4 It is the Word who causes us to live. And because of this, he was the light to all people. 5 The light shines in the dark, and the dark cannot put out the light.

Book excerpt: The Simple English Bible is a new translation of the Holy Bible. It is the result of an effort by several teams, not just one team, over a period of many years. The purpose was to reduce the Holy Bible to simple words not more than about six letters long. Any person with a Fifth Grade Reading Level and any foreign person who knows some English but is not fluent should be able to read and understand this Bible. A basic vocabulary of three thousand words was created for this Bible and this Bible only uses those words. Not only is this a reduction of the text to simpler words but it is also a completely new and original translation. Most other new editions of the Bible are simply rewrites of the well known King James Version of the Bible. By contrast, The Simple English Bible is an entirely new and original translation. This can be demonstrated by comparing almost any verse of the Bible.

Book excerpt: The Gospel means good news, but what makes it news? If the message has been around for 2,000 years, what could possibly be newsworthy about it? And what makes it good? Surely not the stories we hear of damnation, violence, and an angry God. Tom Wright believes many Christians have lost sight of what the ‘good news’ of the gospel really is. In Simply Good News, he shows how a first-century audience would have received the gospel message, what the ‘good news’ means for us today and how it can transform our lives.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For Jesus and his contemporaries, what we now know as the Old Testament was simply the Scriptures--and it was the fundamental basis of how people understood their relationship with God. In this book John Goldingay uncovers five major ways in which the New Testament uses the Old Testament. His discussion paves the way for contemporary readers to understand and appreciate the Old Testament more fully. Along with an overview of how Jesus and the first Christian writers read the Old Testament, illustrated with passages from Matthew, Romans, 1 Corinthians, and Hebrews, Goldingay offers a straightforward introduction to the Old Testament in its own right. Reading Jesus's Bible will shed fresh Old Testament light on Jesus, God, and the church for readers today.

Book excerpt: Why is justice fair? Why are so many people pursuing spirituality? Why do we crave relationship? And why is beauty so beautiful? N. T. Wright argues that each of these questions takes us into the mystery of who God is and what he wants from us. For two thousand years Christianity has claimed to answer these mysteries, and this renowned biblical scholar and Anglican bishop shows that it still does today. Like C. S. Lewis did in his classic Mere Christianity, Wright makes the case for Christian faith from the ground up, assuming that the reader is starting from ground zero with no predisposition to and perhaps even some negativity toward religion in general and Christianity in particular. His goal is to describe Christianity in as simple and accessible, yet hopefully attractive and exciting, a way as possible, both to say to outsides ÔYou might want to look at this further,Ö and to say to insiders ÔYou may not have quite understood this bit clearly yet.Ö
