Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nic Granger didn't plan to save the world. He just wanted to play The Three Kings of Orr online and defeat the Deceiver. The Deceiver had other ideas. As the land of Orr's nastiest villain, he had escaped into the real world some weeks before when the man who invented inter reality chips actually made one work. When Nic finds himself in Orr, an amazing journey begins through time, space, the Internet and the world of his own street. With the help his best friend Frog, younger sister Emily, the knight Riddith and Princess Rhea, The Net Warriors are born. They are joined by a host of other characters including Bruce, a dragon with appallingly smelly breath and Prefix, a mace with the character of a playful puppy. As for the hackers, who is black hat and who is white? Follow their adventures to the End of Time as they are captured by the Hellriders, battle with the headless horsemen, and try to find the Deceiver before he finds them. Can they put the worlds of reality and inter-reality back to how they should be? A review by Suzanne Coleburn, Reader To Reader Reviews If you are a lover of virtual reality games you are going to love THE NET WARRIORS. This enticing story begins when a Japanese man who designed Dec chips for digital entertainment and home control centers with the latest computer technology in the beginning of the 21st Century changed things in the world one day when he decided to change things with his game "The Three Kings of Orr." The game was complex, net based and linked to a web ring, rather than DVD or disc based and what happens next is wild and wooly. Katana assumed the part of the Wise King and while in the game he activated his mortal enemy, the Deceiver who was a shrewd and unsavory character who could change into human and animals at will. Before he knows it Katana is dissolved into the game and disappears. The special IR chip that Kantana designed was installed in a DEC set and sent to the Granger family in a small country town in England where a young 14 year old boy named Nic who has a copy of "The Three Kings of Orr" receives a special message of help on his monitor screen. Nic assumes the persona of the Wise King of Orr and types the words in the message and finds himself blending into the screen and into the game. What a blast. This fast paced story rockets into the fantasy world of Orr and into the reality of life in England, America and Australia as the good guys and the baddies come together trying to save the world from the Deceiver. Lindsey Hall does a bang up job of keeping his readers glued to the screen finding out what is going to happen next. A jolly good story. Don't miss it! Book excerpt: Exciting investigations in northwest China are about to reveal more of the mysteries of the huge mausoleum of the Qin Emperor, a portion of which was accidentally discovered in 1974 by farmers who were digging a well. The second phase of an international research project began in 2011, and more recently, promising new excavations began in Pit 2, with exciting fresh discoveries already announced. The Terracotta Warriors seeks to examine one of China’s most famous archaeological discoveries in light of these new findings. The book begins with the discovery of the terracotta warriors and then tells the history of the Qin Dynasty and as much as is known about the construction of the third century BCE mausoleum, based on the work of the historian Sima Qian (145–90 BCE). He wrote that the First Emperor was buried with palaces, towers, officials, valuable artifacts, and wondrous objects. The new findings and the historical description of the mausoleum suggest that the next discoveries may surpass the size and conception of the original discovery of the terracotta warriors. In the second part, Edward Burman questions who built the warriors, how, and what purpose they served. Finally, he anticipates the ongoing discoveries and describes the new methods of excavation and preservation.

Book excerpt: Following the lives of the three ships with the name Rainbow Warrior, this book, written by a long-serving Greenpeace activist, tells the inside stories of life on board and recounts some of the ship's most exciting adventures and actions. It is at once a narrative of real life on board, a history of some of the most famous vessels in the world, and also a history of Greenpeace itself, which goes beyond the oceans and touches on many aspects of the organization's work. In the end though it aims to bring out the personal stories and firsthand accounts of the ships' adventures—tales from the high seas, full of action and daring but also of humanity and great compassion. Starting with the early life of Greenpeace and the bombing of the Rainbow Warrior I by the French secret service through to the imprisonment of the Arctic 30 by the Russians, the stories are brought to life with photos from the Greenpeace archives, maps, and nautical charts. The most symbolic items belonging to the ship's historical inventory are be also included. Maite Mompo has been a Greenpeace activist for over ten years. With the sea in her blood she started on a small boat, the Zorba, and then moved on to crew for the Arctic Sunrise, Esperanza, and Rainbow Warrior. Spending half her year at sea, she has sailed from pole to pole, taken part in numerous actions, and has put herself "between the harpoon and the whale."

Book excerpt: The central characteristic of the evolution of the combat soldier in recent years is an increasingly sophisticated array of sensing, communications, and related electronics for use in battlefield situations. The most critical factor for maintaining this evolution will be the development of power supply systems capable of operating those electronics effectively for missions up to 72 hours long. To address the challenge, it is important that new approaches be sought on how to integrate and power these electronics. To assist in addressing this problem, the Army requested the National Research Council to review the state of the art and to recommend technologies that will support the rapid development of effective power systems for the future warrior. This report presents the results of that review. It provides an assessment of various technology options for different power level requirements, power system design, and soldier energy sinks. The report also describes future design concepts, focusing on low-power systems. Recommendations for technology development and system design are presented.

Napoliello supports his secondary sources with interviews with Army aviators who flew in Vietnam and with current-day members of Native American tribes." — The VVA Veteran On Warriors’ Wings traces the evolution of the Army policy to give names to major end items of equipment and specifically Native American tribal, warrior chiefs, and item to helicopters. Twelve Army helicopters saw combat in Vietnam, with eleven bearing Native American names. For each, David Napoliello’s work includes an examination of what capabilities were needed, its performance requirements, and the production of the fleet. Napoliello continues with a discussion on how the aircraft was used during its entire period of service in-country as opposed to a twelve-month snapshot of the experiences of a single aviator or a specific aviation unit. The capstone of each chapter is the story of the Native American tribe or warrior chief and how that history commends it for the naming of that particular helicopter. David also devotes a chapter to the experiences and memories of Native American veterans who served as pilots or crew members of those eleven aircraft. These are insightful, first-person accounts of their tours of duty in Vietnam and duties in aviation units while stationed there. Over two hundred Native Americans perished in Vietnam, nineteen of whom died while participating in aerial operations. The details of that final mission and loss are included in here, along with a listing of the other fallen warriors. On Warriors’ Wings concludes with a summary of the new Native American named helicopters that came after Vietnam and the progress the US military has made with regards to national recognition of Indigenous veterans. On Warriors’ Wings includes extensive illustrations and archival images of Native American veterans.

This book was released on 2021-12-14 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chateaubriand's Travels in America, presented here in its first modern translation, was a reflection of the attitudes of his epoch toward the New World. And at the same time, because of his enormous literary reputation, it has continued to be a major source of European impressions about America. The America portrayed by Chateaubriand was much more a product of his reading and his imagination than of his actual visit. (His supposed itinerary included a trip up the Hudson to Albany, a visit to Niagara Falls via the Mohawk Trail, a trip down the Mississippi to the Natchez country, and even a visit to the Carolinas and the southern tip of Florida). Though the Frenchman of the nineteenth century could have obtained a much truer picture of America in any number of realistic works, he still chose the poetic evocation of Chateaubriand because he shared the same temperament, the same prejudices, and the same particular view of the world.
