Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Third International Symposium on Inflammatory Bowel Diseases was held in Jerusalem during September 10-13, 1989. Four hundred physicians and scientists from 25 countries attended the meeting. The symposium was organized into five panels devoted to state of the art reviews of the latest findings and approaches on the etiology, pathogenesis, metabolic implications, clinical assessment of disease activity and the medical management of IBD. Several issues were discussed in debate form. The last panel was dedicated to discussion of three patients with computer assisted active participation of all the attendants. In addition, 03 abstracts were presented as posters, all of which were published in the Book of Abstracts. The organizing committee gratefully acknowledges the contributors who presented their work in clear and concise manner and the participants, whose active part in the discussions contributed to the success of the meeting. The Jerusalem International symposium on Inflammatory Bowel Diseases has become a tradition that will continue with the Fourth Symposium to be convened in September 1993. Book excerpt: Dr. Leo Galland, along with Doctors Bernie Siegel and Andrew Weil, has been a pioneer in the emerging field of integrated medicine, which combines the best of alternative and conventional treatments. He is also a renowned medical detective, successfully curing patients whose illnesses have defied prior diagnosis and treatment. In Power Healing, Dr. Galland shares his breakthrough medical philosophy and program of healing, developed over the course of three decades of education and practice. He explains how you can apply four healing strategies that will help your body restore its own rightful balance and health: 1) build healthy relationships—community is the most powerful healing force; 2) create a customized prescription for diet, rest, and exercise; 3) purify your external environment; and 4) detoxify your internal environment to help your body protect and cleanse itself. Included for the first time in this edition is a dynamic new questionnaire Dr. Galland has created to help you hone in on your medical priorities. Filled with practical advice on detecting unsuspected causes of our sickness, building resistance to disease, and harnessing our own bodies’ natural desire to heal, Dr. Galland’s innovative book represents mind/body medicine at its best. For those whose illnesses haven’t responded to treatment or resist diagnoses, or for anyone who craves a higher level of health, Power Healing is essential reading. Praise for Power Healing “If I were to get sick, this is the doctor I would go to see and the book I would read.”—Robert C. Atkins, M.D., author of Dr. Atkins’ Vita-Nutrient Solution “A triumph. The most comprehensive book I have ever seen about promoting all aspects of wellness. Well organized, easy to read, and suitable for the layperson and health professional alike.”—Total Health “Dr. Galland’s invaluable advice has been a great help to me. I’m delighted that others will at last have the benefit of his wisdom in their search for healing.”—Carol Burnett “The medicine of the future will embrace and integrate the best of conventional and alternative approaches to health and healing. Dr. Galland makes a compelling argument that sickness is most effectively treated when the particular needs and underling psychological, emotional, and environmental issues are addressed.”—Dean Ornish, M.D.

This book was released on 2014-05-14 with total page 446 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Now published in two volumes to accommodate new chapters on the many advances in understanding and treatment options, this set of volumes represents the definitive reference on inflammatory bowel disease, a spectrum of diseases that is receiving increasing attention as our understanding of the etiological factors increases and diagnostic tools are refined. Basic research accelerated at the beginning of this decade and is now yielding new, more targeted treatments than were available just a few years ago. Volume 1 is on IBD and Ulcerative Colitis, and Volume 2 is on IBD and Crohn's Disease. All areas that were covered in the 2nd edition have been expanded and updated. New sections include the rapidly expanding knowledge of genetics and the role of the intestinal flora and environmental factors in etiology and pathogenesis. Among the 168 chapters, there are 20 on biologic therapies and 30 on surgical management. The consultant/authors clearly state their approach to important issues, such as the duration of immunomodulator and of anti-TNF-a use and the options for managing isolated low-grade dysplasia. A strong focus on the individual patient is woven throughout both volumes, including the benefits and risks of potentially life-altering therapies and surgeries. Entire sections detail concerns about the well-being of each person. This book provides information for health professionals who help both pediatric and adult patients navigate through the lifelong shadow of a chronic, probably genetically determined ordeal.

Chapters include the historical use of rigid sigmoidoscopy, non-interventional imaging procedures, and the correlation of pathology and endoscopic visualization. This is the first book to include individual chapters in gastroenterology, colorectal surgery, and IBD texts, the preeminent role of endoscopic imaging in the management of chronic ulcerative colitis, and Crohn's disease. It also includes chapters on capsule endoscopy and balloon and overtube-assisted enteroscopy to define the presence and activity of Crohn's enteritis and additional chapters defining the use of random biopsies versus chromoendoscopy, and computer enhanced imaging to define possible dysplasia development. The book also includes access to online videos, making it the ultimate verbal and visual tool for all medical professionals interested in the advances in the field over the last several decades. Endoscopy in Inflammatory Bowel Disease is a concise text that is of great value to practicing endoscopists, gastroenterologists, general or colorectal surgeons, physicians in training, and all medical professionals caring for patients with inflammatory bowel disease.
