Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Manitoba Law Journal, Vol. 1 Statutes: In case an attorney, wilfully, and knowingly, acts as the professional agent, or partner of any person not, qualified to act as an attorney, or suffers his name to be used in any such agency or partnership, on account of any unqualified person, or sends any process to such person, or does any other act to enable such person to practise in any respect as an attorney, knowing him not to be duly quali fied, and in case complaint be made thereof in a summary manner to the benchers, and proof be made thereof upon oath to the satisfaction of the said benchers, the attorney so offending may, in the discretion of the benchers, be struck off the roll, and disabled from practising as such attorney, and the Court of Queen's Bench may commit such unqualified person to any common gaol or prison as for contempt, for any period not exceeding one year. The existence of this statute seems to be either unknown or it is regarded as repealed. Acting for Ontario attorneys (who are unqualified persons, so far as we are concerned), upon agency terms, is as much a breach of this statute as allowing a student, residing in one town, to practise under the name of an attorney residing in another. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Upper Canada Law Journal, Vol. 2: From January to December, 1866 This is given as one of the most common instances which fortify our position, but it is not the most important in other respects. We have already alluded to cases of collision, salvage, general average, bottomry, &c., all cases in which no adequate or appropriate remedy or relief can he obtained in the ordinary courts of the country. And as the commerce of this colony increases, and the resources of the immense tracts of land, fertile both in agricultural and mineral wealth, which lie to the west of us, are brought into the market, and vessels from all parts of the world find their way in and outoot' the ports of this marvellous chain of lakes, it will be absolutely necessary to have a court of judicature, insti tuted to meet and adjust the numerous im portant and ever varying questions which must continually arise. Our aim is to provide readers with the highest quality reproductions of fiction and non-fiction literature that has stood the test of time. The many thousands of books in our collection have been sourced from libraries and private collections around the world. The titles that Trieste Publishing has chosen to be part of the collection have been scanned to simulate the original. Our readers see the books the same way that their first readers did decades or a hundred or more years ago. Books from that period are often spoiled by imperfections that did not exist in the original. Imperfections could be in the form of blurred text, photographs, or missing pages. It is highly unlikely that this would occur with one of our books. Our extensive quality control ensures that the readers of Trieste Publishing's books will be delighted with their purchase. Our staff has thoroughly reviewed every page of all the books in the collection, repairing, or if necessary, rejecting titles that are not of the highest quality. This process ensures that the reader of one of Trieste Publishing's titles receives a volume that faithfully reproduces the original, and to the maximum degree possible, gives them the experience of owning the original work.We pride ourselves on not only creating a pathway to an extensive reservoir of books of the finest quality, but also providing value to every one of our readers. Generally, Trieste books are purchased singly - on demand, however they may also be purchased in bulk. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Lower Canada Law Journal, 1966, Vol. 1 In order to substantiate our position, as well as to convey some idea of the real work which has to be done and the advantages which will result from its accomplishment, it is necessary to exhibit the actual state of our law, the pro cess by which it has been developed into its present shape, and the mode in which the vast and intricate storehouses of legal knowledge are made available. We shall therefore, in the first place, offer such a sketch as is necessary to the comprehension of the question to be dis cussed, avoiding as far as possible the use of technical language, and availing ourselves freely of the materials which the Lord Chancel lor and Sir J. P. Wilde have provided. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Canada Law Journal, Vol. 58 English law has undergone a wide development in the last one hundred and thirty years and in no branch has it developed more than in that relating to the rights of married women. A decision scarcely Older than the 1790 case goes so far as to say: The husband both by law power and dominion over his wife, and may keep her by force within the bounds Of duty; any may beat her, but not in a violent or cruel manner. Today, such conduct would not only give the wife a good ground for separation with alimony but it would constitute a criminal Offence. We have only to go back half a century to find that a married woman could not hold property, make a will, sue to collect a debt or incur a liability, free from her husband; but now by virtue of legislation she enjoys the rights of citizenship possessed by male subjects, even to the franchise.
