Book excerpt: “The Magnetic Brackets ... is one of the liveliest and truest poetical testaments that a reader can tackle in these times of disbelief, of half-truths, of vacuity and passivity in thought. For this is one more gift from the book: where thought and feeling are perfectly merged.” — Antonio Colinas.

Morrow (spelled Marrow), the Physical Review (cited as ..."Revison"), EB, Prima. No double blind studies are reported; seems easy since humans do not sense magnetic flux. Authority is anecdotal. Well, just as it draws iron from the sand, a magnet can manipulate the iron in your bloodstream, improving both circulation and body function. Magnet Therapy is filled with practical information as well as success stories that will bolster your determination to work toward greater health. You would be amazed to learn just how many conditions can be healed with magnet therapy. Diabetes, heart disease, and multiple sclerosis are only three of the thirty-five health issues discussed in this book. Conventional medicine does its best with pills, but treats only the symptoms, while magnet therapy treats the whole body, making it stronger and healthier. Whether this is your first or fortieth time using magnets, Magnet Therapy will teach you to maximize your health in a way that is both scientifically proven and easy to understand.

Book Synopsis Our Magnetic Earth by : Ronald T. Merrill
Download or read book Our Magnetic Earth written by Ronald T. Merrill and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2010-11-15 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For the general public, magnetism often seems more the province of new age quacks, movie mad scientists, and grade-school teachers than an area of actual, ongoing scientific inquiry. But as Ronald T. Merrill reveals in Our Magnetic Earth, geomagnetism really is an enduring, vibrant area of science, one that offers answers to some of the biggest questions about our planet’s past—and maybe even its future. In a clear and careful fashion, he lays out the physics of geomagnetism and magnetic fields, then goes on to explain how Earth’s magnetic field provides crucial evidence for our understanding of continental drift and plate tectonics; how and why animals, ranging from bacteria to mammals, sense and use the magnetic field; how changes in climate over eons can be studied through variations in the magnetic field in rocks; and much more. Throughout, Merrill peppers his scientific account with bizarre anecdotes and fascinating details, from levitating pizzas to Moon missions to blackmailing KGB agents—a reminder that real science can at times be stranger, and more amusing, than fiction. A winning primer for anyone who has ever struggled with a compass or admired a ragged V of migrating geese, Our Magnetic Earth demonstrates that education and entertainment need not be polar opposites.

Book Synopsis Morse Theory. (AM-51), Volume 51 by : John Milnor
Download or read book Morse Theory. (AM-51), Volume 51 written by John Milnor and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2016-03-02 with total page 163 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the most cited books in mathematics, John Milnor's exposition of Morse theory has been the most important book on the subject for more than forty years. Morse theory was developed in the 1920s by mathematician Marston Morse. (Morse was on the faculty of the Institute for Advanced Study, and Princeton published his Topological Methods in the Theory of Functions of a Complex Variable in the Annals of Mathematics Studies series in 1947.) One classical application of Morse theory includes the attempt to understand, with only limited information, the large-scale structure of an object. This kind of problem occurs in mathematical physics, dynamic systems, and mechanical engineering. Morse theory has received much attention in the last two decades as a result of a famous paper in which theoretical physicist Edward Witten relates Morse theory to quantum field theory. Milnor was awarded the Fields Medal (the mathematical equivalent of a Nobel Prize) in 1962 for his work in differential topology. He has since received the National Medal of Science (1967) and the Steele Prize from the American Mathematical Society twice (1982 and 2004) in recognition of his explanations of mathematical concepts across a wide range of scienti.c disciplines. The citation reads, "The phrase sublime elegance is rarely associated with mathematical exposition, but it applies to all of Milnor's writings. Reading his books, one is struck with the ease with which the subject is unfolding and it only becomes apparent after re.ection that this ease is the mark of a master.? Milnor has published five books with Princeton University Press.
