Book Synopsis The Magna Charta Sureties, 1215 by : Frederick Lewis Weis
Download or read book The Magna Charta Sureties, 1215 written by Frederick Lewis Weis and published by Genealogical Publishing Com. This book was released on 1999 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At the signing of the Magna Charta, twenty-five men, representing the barons, signed as sureties of the baronial performance, in effect pledging the barons to fulfill their obligations to the Crown in accordance with the terms of the Great Charter. Of these twenty-five sureties only seventeen have identified descendants. Each of the seventeen is represented in the celebrated "Magna Charta Sureties," which traces their connections--line by line and generation by generation--to approximately 160 American colonists. Eight years have passed since the publication of the last edition of this work, however, and in the interval a great many additions, corrections, and revisions have accumulated. Brought to a very high standard by the unremitting efforts of its editor, Walter Lee Sheppard, Jr., this fifth edition incorporates new lines, corrects errors in existing lines, adds recently discovered material, and supplies references where they had previously been omitted. The result is a reliable and authoritative collection of interlocking pedigrees which carry the ancestry of some 160 American colonists back to the thirteenth century. With the possible exception of Weis's "Ancestral Roots" (also published by Genealogical Publishing Co.), this is probably the very best work ever written on the pre-colonial ancestry of American colonists.

This book was released on 2012-06-14 with total page 386 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A successor to the 1898 work "The Magna Charta Barons and Their American Descendants," the pedigrees herein are of the members of the Order of Runnemede in 1915--in effect, a second "yearbook" of the Order. Since pedigrees were dropped and added as the membership of the Order changed, this work stands by itself and does not supersede the 1898 volume. Nearly 200 pages are devoted to pedigrees of the members, which are grouped under the following names: Abbott, Allyn, Aston, Bernard, Bevan, Booth, Brooke, Bruen, Bulkeley, Byrd, Cadwalader, Calvert, Carter, Chauncey, Chichester, Claiborne, Claypool, Clayton, Daubeney, Digges, Drake, Dundas, Evans, Fauntleroy, Fenwick, Fleete, Foulke, Gordon, Gorsuch, Haynes, Henry, Humfrey, Irvine, Lambert, Lawrence, Leete, Lindsay, Lloyd, Lyman, Lynde, MacGehee, McIntosh, Montgomery, Norton, O'Carroll, Owen, Reade, Rose, Saltonstall, Scott, Sherman, Skipwith, Spotswood, Stewart, Sullivan, Throckmorton, Warren, Washington, West, Wetherill, Whiting, Wilkinson, Williams, Willis, Willoughby, Winthrop, Witherspoon, Woodhull, and Wyatt.

Book Synopsis Americans of Royal Descent by : Charles Henry Browning
Download or read book Americans of Royal Descent written by Charles Henry Browning and published by Genealogical Publishing Com. This book was released on 1969 with total page 582 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A standard work on royal genealogy, this collection contains nearly 200 pedigrees showing the lineal descent of hundreds of American families from the kings of England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales, and France. The data derives from authoritative reference works, from family histories, and from manuscript pedigrees held in both public and private repositories. The indexes contain references to upwards of 3,000 surnames, many with multiple entries. One need only trace a surname through a lineage to connect with the Blood Royal. (Earlier editions of this work are not necessarily superseded by the seventh edition, but the seventh is held to be the most authoritative, and is therefore the most popular.)

Book excerpt: This book covers the history of multiple families whose only overarching connection is that they were all the ancestors of Robert Hilton Squires II, my brother-in-law. But these various genealogical strands intersected with many pivotal eras in English colonial and later American history. Thus in some strange way the history of this one contemporary person is a microcosm of the story of America.

Book excerpt: Explore the history of immigration to the United States through the eyes of two of its earliest familiesthe Nuckollses and the Lymans. Charles R. Nuckolls Jr. examines the religious strife, war, and other problems that forced his descendants and others to flee to the New World. His examination of his familys role in historic events provides a framework for understanding the Declaration of Independence, the U.S. Constitution, and the beginnings of government in the United States. The Roses presents the history of the Lyman family in New England and then follows the Nuckolls family of Virginia as they head west. It will take all of their strength and courage to survive financial panics, wars, and social upheavals. An examination of the roles the Lymans and Nuckollses played in the founding of various colonies, the American Revolution, and other important events helps convey the important position immigrants held in the development of America. Take a detailed look at how immigrants contributed to the rise of America and how they survived difficult times in The Roses: The Nuckolls Family, the Lyman Family, and One Hundred Fifty Immigrants Who Helped Shape America.
Download or read book Flyover Lives written by Diane Johnson and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2014-01-16 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “[A] vivid . . . quest for roots. . . . Splendid.” —The New York Times Book Review Growing up in the small river town of Moline, Illinois, Diane Johnson always dreamed of venturing off to see the world—and did. Now having traveled widely and lived part-time in Paris for many years, she is stung when a French friend teases her about Americans’ indifference to history. Could it be true? The j’accuse haunts Diane and inspires her to dig into her family’s past, working back from the Friday night football of her youth to the adventures illuminated in the letters and memoirs of her stalwart pioneer ancestors—beginning with a lonely young soldier who came to America from France in 1711. As enchanting as her bestselling novels, Flyover Lives is a moving examination of identity and the “wispy but material” family ghosts who shape us. As Johnson pays tribute to her deep Midwestern roots, she captures the perpetual tug-of-war between the magnetic pull of home and our lust for escape and self-invention.
