Her stories navigate you through the career of a young woman who has hopes, dreams, needs, a purpose and aspirations but she faces constant opposition to fulfilling and attaining these basic human requirements. Like so many people of color before her, she achieves a certain measure of success but the measure of success is minor compared to what she must do to achieve it. It is a reflection of the despair she was feeling when she wrote it but does not fully reveal the appreciation, compassion and love that she has for mankind. It is time for a change!

Book excerpt: The team of nurses that Tilda Shalof found herself working with in the intensive care unit (ICU) of a big-city hospital was known as “Laura’s Line.” They were a bit wild: smart, funny, disrespectful of authority, but also caring and incredibly committed to their jobs. Laura set the tone with her quick remarks. Frances, from Newfoundland, was famous for her improvised recipes. Justine, the union rep, wore t-shirts emblazoned with defiant slogans, like “Nurses Care But It’s Not in the Budget.” Shalof was the one who had been to university. The others accused her of being “sooo sensitive.” They depended upon one another. Working in the ICU was both emotionally grueling and physically exhausting. Many patients, quite simply, were dying, and the staff strove mightily to prolong their lives. With their skill, dedication, and the resources of modern science, they sometimes were almost too successful. Doctors and nurses alike wondered if what they did for terminally-ill patients was not, in some cases, too extreme. A number of patients were admitted when it was too late even for heroic measures. A boy struck down by a cerebral aneurysm in the middle of a little-league hockey game. A woman rescued – too late – from a burning house. It all took its toll on the staff. And yet, on good days, they thrived on what they did. Shalof describes a colleague who is managing a “crashing” patient: “I looked at her. Nicky was flushed with excitement. She was doing five different things at the same time, planning ahead for another five. She was totally focused, in her element, in control, completely at home with the chaos. There was a huge smile on her face. Nurses like to fix things. If they can.” Shalof, a veteran ICU nurse, reveals what it is really like to work behind the closed hospital curtains. The drama, the sardonic humour, the grinding workload, the cheerful camaraderie, the big issues and the small, all are brought vividly to life in this remarkable book.

Book excerpt: - Book 6 of The Devil's Price Series - Dear Violet, I’ve written you a lot of messages that I never sent. A part of me really wants you to know how I feel about you, but the other part of me thinks it’s better if you don’t. Dear Violet, Maybe this will be the last thing I’ll ever write to you. After this wedding, I might not be around anymore. And even if I was, you’d want nothing to do with me. “Violet...?” Damon couldn’t believe his eyes. Violet was standing before him, her long brown hair was blowing in the wind, and those purple eyes were shining brightly. “Hey,” Violet said softly, but Damon heard it loud and clear. This wasn’t a dream. This was real. She was there in the flesh, standing in front of him. “Violet, Violet!” Damon’s hand went to Violet’s stomach, putting pressure on it, hoping to stop the bleeding. Violet’s eyes were closed shut and her body felt cold. “Violet, please! Don’t close your eyes, baby!” He tried rocking her body back and forth, but Violet wasn’t responding.

Book excerpt: A comedy about a thirty year-old New Yorker who is in the dark about his family's mafiosa activities and finds himself involved in a vendetta between families and on the hunt for an elusive treasure.“Brilliant and dynamic, you will be thrown into an exhilarating adventure for the hunt of a hidden treasure in a captivating New York; in a world where the word 'Mafia' will make you smile. Riddles, pursuits and a comedy of errors surround the characters in a vortex of gags, unaware that they are the center of attention of the 'Family' that wants to protect them; of the ruthless rival mob that threatens them for the loot; and the interest of two confused cops who stalk them in an attempt to figure out what's going on.”“Take a slice of 'The Big Apple' and add two good kids: Ben and Susan. Now blend that with a strong and determined mafia 'Family' that blackmails them, and mix in the frenetic pursuit of a hidden treasure. Spice it up with fervent cops hot on their heels and above all, don't forget to garnish everything with yet another New York rival 'Family', whose Boss is the uncle of the young Ben, that has always protected him. The secret ingredient: Ben must never know about his uncles' true 'business' and must continue to believe that they are honest workers, due to a promise made at the time of his father's death. Serve this in a brilliant and dynamic setting, accompanied with a fresh liveliness...of puzzling riddles, misunderstandings and never-ending pursuits.”
