Book Synopsis Rabbit Sun, Lotus Moon by : Andrea Millenson Penner
Download or read book Rabbit Sun, Lotus Moon written by Andrea Millenson Penner and published by . This book was released on 2017-01-04 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The poems in Rabbit Sun, Lotus Moon present those uncommon moments when we recognize our world not only as a landscape or backdrop for our individual and collective experiences, but also as soulful nourishment (if we pay attention). The poet shares with the reader a journey of awakening "to what is important in this one precarious life between earth and sky." Each poem arrives unexpectedly and deliciously like a handwritten letter or postcard from a relative, close friend, or even from your former (or perhaps future) self. This volume extends and complements the author's first collection, When East Was North (2012 Mercury HeartLink). Andrea (Andi) Penner lives, works, and writes in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Book Synopsis The Routledge Handbook of the Senses in the Ancient Near East by : Kiersten Neumann
Download or read book The Routledge Handbook of the Senses in the Ancient Near East written by Kiersten Neumann and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-09-30 with total page 770 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Handbook is a state-of-the-field volume containing diverse approaches to sensory experience, bringing to life in an innovative, remarkably vivid, and visceral way the lives of past humans through contributions that cover the chronological and geographical expanse of the ancient Near East. It comprises thirty-two chapters written by leading international contributors that look at the ways in which humans, through their senses, experienced their lives and the world around them in the ancient Near East, with coverage of Anatolia, Egypt, the Levant, Mesopotamia, Syria, and Persia, from the Neolithic through the Roman period. It is organised into six parts related to sensory contexts: Practice, production, and taskscape; Dress and the body; Ritualised practice and ceremonial spaces; Death and burial; Science, medicine, and aesthetics; and Languages and semantic fields. In addition to exploring what makes each sensory context unique, this organisation facilitates cross-cultural and cross-chronological, as well as cross-sensory and multisensory comparisons and discussions of sensory experiences in the ancient world. In so doing, the volume also enables considerations of senses beyond the five-sense model of Western philosophy (sight, hearing, touch, taste, and smell), including proprioception and interoception, and the phenomena of synaesthesia and kinaesthesia. The Routledge Handbook of the Senses in the Ancient Near East provides scholars and students within the field of ancient Near Eastern studies new perspectives on and conceptions of familiar spaces, places, and practices, as well as material culture and texts. It also allows scholars and students from adjacent fields such as Classics and Biblical Studies to engage with this material, and is a must-read for any scholar or student interested in or already engaged with the field of sensory studies in any period.

Book Synopsis The New Generation in Chinese Animation by : Shaopeng Chen
Download or read book The New Generation in Chinese Animation written by Shaopeng Chen and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2021-09-23 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1995 Chinese animated filmmaking ceased to be a state-run enterprise and was plunged into the free market. Using key animated films as his case studies, Shaopeng Chen examines new generation Chinese animation in its aesthetic and industrial contexts. He argues that, unlike its predecessors, this new generation does not have a distinctive national identity, but represents an important stage of diversity and exploration in the history of Chinese animation. Chen identifies distinct characteristics of new generation filmmaking, including an orientation towards young audiences and the recurring figure of the immortal monkey-like Sun Wukong. He explores how films such as Lotus Lantern/Baolian Deng (1999) responded to competition from American imports such as The Lion King (1994), retaining Chinese iconography while at the same time adopting Hollywood aesthetics and techniques. Addressing the series Boonie Bears/Xiong Chumo (2014-5), Chen focuses on the films' adaptation from the original TV series, and how the films were promoted across generations and by means of both online and offline channels. Discussing the series Kuiba/Kui Ba (2011, 2013, 2014), Chen examines Vasoon Animation Studio's ambitious attempt to create the first Chinese-style high fantasy fictional universe, and considers why the first film was a critical success but a failure at the box-office. He also explores the relationship between Japanese anime and new generation Chinese animation. Finally, Chen considers how word-of-mouth social media engagement lay behind the success of Monkey King: Hero is Back (2015).
