It's about the ups and downs of falling in love. The bumpy road of thinking everything fits perfectly together and that they're soon yours. Then believing that everything's falling apart and that the only thing you filled with love were your delusions. These poems are part of a roller coaster ride and so is love.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The instant New York Times Bestseller • Nominated for the 2019 National Book Award for Fiction “A lyrical work of self-discovery that’s shockingly intimate and insistently universal…Not so much briefly gorgeous as permanently stunning.” —Ron Charles, The Washington Post Ocean Vuong’s debut novel is a shattering portrait of a family, a first love, and the redemptive power of storytelling On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous is a letter from a son to a mother who cannot read. Written when the speaker, Little Dog, is in his late twenties, the letter unearths a family’s history that began before he was born — a history whose epicenter is rooted in Vietnam — and serves as a doorway into parts of his life his mother has never known, all of it leading to an unforgettable revelation. At once a witness to the fraught yet undeniable love between a single mother and her son, it is also a brutally honest exploration of race, class, and masculinity. Asking questions central to our American moment, immersed as we are in addiction, violence, and trauma, but undergirded by compassion and tenderness, On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous is as much about the power of telling one’s own story as it is about the obliterating silence of not being heard. With stunning urgency and grace, Ocean Vuong writes of people caught between disparate worlds, and asks how we heal and rescue one another without forsaking who we are. The question of how to survive, and how to make of it a kind of joy, powers the most important debut novel of many years. Named a Best Book of the Year by: GQ, Kirkus Reviews, Booklist, Library Journal, TIME, Esquire, The Washington Post, Apple, Good Housekeeping, The New Yorker, The New York Public Library, Elle.com, The Guardian, The A.V. Book excerpt: A Woman; Stories/Poetry pertaining to life experiences, life, love, friendships, life as I know it; This is in rhyme, words that ejected in such a way that express myself, my life as it was dealt. These stories are easily followed, mostly inspired by people and incidents in my life. In three sections; Section one; dedicated to my children, how very much they mean to me, answers to some of their many questions, some amusement, mostly my love of them. Section two: to my husband, my love, my emotions, my passion, our fashions, and my promise. Section three: to family and friends, the life as I know it; starting very early in life explained in the last story Kathleen; my sister & Timothy my brother both died at a very young age. Life with them wonderful, their death unbearable. Another tragedy of a good friend. A story of wonderful friends. A word to my Mom for all she means to me. A diverse section of highs and lows all explained, easy to follow. Finally; Three short stories: Regrets & Scars: A tells all tale of misery in a few relationships that caused me much pain and regret, why I settled for these situations? Maybe out of insecurity, mostly nave, mainly putting trust where it did not have a place, with those who took advantage. Hopefully my coming clean will protect my nieces and nephews and other teens to better deal with relationships that have no real beginning so therefore cannot possibly carry the power needed to enforce life long respect and happy endings. A Word To My Unborn Child: Just in the case something should happen to me, life of my brother has been swept away without a whisper of goodbye. My new child it will be another son, I want to get the chance to tell him I love him, and let him know what I wish for him, and my other two sons, things that I will teach them myself but, just incase! My Father: A very sick man with little time left, brings out the true feelings of anger, love, judgment that I held a lifetime. Now I realize hes human, made mistakes; his love and I must let him know how very much I love him and forgive him and cannot bear to loose him. I believe this is a book that can be placed on anyones bookshelf, stories to be read to young children, poetry that can be enjoyed by women, and men too. Stories that can be lessons to teens, true stories that I went through with no happy ending until the real thing came along! Thankfully I was not tangled in the wrong web where as to have missed out. Diaries from this Womans heart, once broken over and over and mended finally with reality, sense, and love!

Book excerpt: As The Giving Tree turns fifty, this timeless classic is available for the first time ever in ebook format. This digital edition allows young readers and lifelong fans to continue the legacy and love of a classic that will now reach an even wider audience. "Once there was a tree...and she loved a little boy." So begins a story of unforgettable perception, beautifully written and illustrated by the gifted and versatile Shel Silverstein. This moving parable for all ages offers a touching interpretation of the gift of giving and a serene acceptance of another's capacity to love in return. Every day the boy would come to the tree to eat her apples, swing from her branches, or slide down her trunk...and the tree was happy. But as the boy grew older he began to want more from the tree, and the tree gave and gave and gave. This is a tender story, touched with sadness, aglow with consolation. Shel Silverstein's incomparable career as a bestselling children's book author and illustrator began with Lafcadio, the Lion Who Shot Back. He is also the creator of picture books including A Giraffe and a Half, Who Wants a Cheap Rhinoceros?, The Missing Piece, The Missing Piece Meets the Big O, and the perennial favorite The Giving Tree, and of classic poetry collections such as Where the Sidewalk Ends, A Light in the Attic, Falling Up, Every Thing On It, Don't Bump the Glump!, and Runny Babbit. And don't miss the other Shel Silverstein ebooks, Where the Sidewalk Ends and A Light in the Attic!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At the turn of the twentieth century, Charlotte Perkins Gilman was a celebrity—acclaimed as a leader in the feminist movement and castigated for her divorce, her relinquishment of custody of her daughter, and her unconventional second marriage. She was also widely read, with stories in popular magazines and with dozens of books in print. Her most famous short story, the intensely personal “The Yellow Wallpaper,” was read as a horror story when first published in 1892 and then lapsed into obscurity before being rediscovered and reinterpreted by feminist scholars in the 1970s. Noted anthologist Barbara Solomon has put together a remarkable collection of Gilman’s fiction, which includes twenty short stories and the complete text of Herland, the landmark utopian novel that remained unavailable for more than sixty years. From “The Unexpected,” printed in Kate Field’s Washington in 1890, to such later tales as “Mrs. Elder’s Idea,” published in Gilman’s own periodical, The Forerunner, readers can again encounter this witty, original, and audacious woman who dared to challenge the status quo and who created fiction that continues to be fresh and timeless. Edited and with an Introduction by Barbara H. Solomon

Whose testimony is worth recording? Osman’s speakers, who are almost always women, assert and reassert in an attempt to establish authority, often through persistent questioning. Specters of race, displacement, and colonialism are often present in her work, providing momentum for speakers to reach beyond their primary, apparent dimensions and better communicate. The Kitchen-Dweller’s Testimony is about love and longing, divorce, distilled desire, and all the ways we injure ourselves and one another.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This first biography of poet and writer Margaret Walker (1915-98) offers a comprehensive close reading of a pillar in American culture for a majority of the 20th century. Without defining herself as a radical or even a feminist, Walker followed the precepts of both. She promoted the idea of the artist of tradition and social change, a public intellectual and an institution builder. Among the first to recognize the impact of black women in literature, Walker became a chief architect of what many have called the new Black South Renaissance. Her art was influenced early by Langston Hughes, her political understanding of the world by Richard Wright. Walker expanded both into a comprehensive view on art and humanism, which became a national platform for the center she founded in Mississippi that now bears her name. The House Where My Soul Lives provides a full account of Walker's life and new interpretations of her writings before and after the publication of her most well-known poem in the 1930s in Chicago. The book rejects the widely held view of Walker as the "angry black woman" and emphasizes what contemporary American culture owes to her decades of foundational work in what we know today as Black Studies, Women's Studies, and the Public Humanities. She was fierce in her claim to be "black, female and free" which gave her the authority to challenge all hierarchies, no matter at what cost. Featuring 80 archival photos and documents and based on never before examined personal papers and interviews with those who knew Walker personally, this book is required reading for all readers of biographies of American writers."--Amazon.com.

Book excerpt: thinking in poems is a collection of thoughts on relationships, poly explorations, friends, loss and grief. grief not only about people but places, wishes for the future, and a hurting planet. it describes the feeling of navigating the world as a young woman, angry, sad, melancholic and at times punishingly true. it is a collection that aspires to bring to live thoughts for the future, about the relations we could form, the work we could do, to articulate what we strive for. to articulate: whats next?
