Book Synopsis Studies in English Trade in the 15th Century by : Eileen Power
Download or read book Studies in English Trade in the 15th Century written by Eileen Power and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-11-05 with total page 537 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Of all the activities of the most neglected century in English History, England's trade has received the least attention in proportion to its importance. It was obviously in the course of the later Middle Ages, and more particularly in the fifteenth century, that there took place the great transformation from medieval England, isolated and intensely local, to the England of the Tudor and Stuart age, with its world-wide connections and imperial designs. It was during the same period that most of the forms of international trade characteristic of the Middle Ages were replaced by new methods of commercial organization and regulation, national in scope and at times definitely nationalistic in object, and that a marked movement towards capitalist methods and principles took place in the sphere of domestic trade. Yet little has been written concerning English trade in this period. First published in 1933, this classic volume goes a long way to fills this gap superbly. There is an abundance of material, and the writers have compiled a statistical analysis of the Enrolled Customs Account from 1377-1482, which provides an essential measure of the nature, volume, and movement of English foreign commerce during the period.

Book Synopsis History and Economic Life by : Georg Christ
Download or read book History and Economic Life written by Georg Christ and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-02-27 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: History and Economic Life offers students a wide-ranging introduction to both quantitative and qualitative approaches to interpreting economic history sources from the Middle Ages to the Twentieth Century. Having identified an ever-widening gap between the use of qualitative sources by cultural historians and quantitative sources by economic historians, the book aims to bridge the divide by making economic history sources more accessible to students and the wider public, and highlighting the need for a complementary rather than exclusive approach. Divided into two parts, the book begins by equipping students with a toolbox to approach economic history sources, considering the range of sources that might be of use and introducing different ways of approaching them. The second part consists of case studies that examine how economic historians use such sources, helping readers to gain a sense of context and understanding of how these sources can be used. The book thereby sheds light on important debates both within and beyond the field, and highlights the benefits gained when combining qualitative and quantitative approaches to source analysis. Introducing sources often avoided in culturally-minded history or statistically-minded economic history courses respectively, and advocating a combined quantitative and qualitative approach, it is an essential resource for students undertaking source analysis within the field.

What is the basis of relief in trademark cases of unfair competition? Schechter unravels these problems as he traces the development of the law of trademarks from medieval times to the early twentieth century. ". . . invaluable for starting scholarly research." --Julius J. Marke, A Catalogue of the Law Collection of New York University (1953) 869 "Mr. Schechter has turned up much interesting and hitherto unpublished material concerning the use of guild and artisans' marks in the Middle Ages in England. His chapter (V) on "The Development of Trade Mark Law in the Cutlery Trades," is particularly valuable and contains matter not before in print. It makes understandable the reference to registers of the cutlers' companies in the English Trade Marks Act of 1875." --Edward S. Rogers, Michigan Law Review 24 (1925-1926) 98 Frank Isaac Schechter [1890-1937] received the first doctor of jurisprudence degree given by Columbia University.
