Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A book of faction – facts disguised as fiction and fiction disguised as fact – in the form of quotations, observations, word games and decidedly different definitions. The Little Read Book takes a sideways (and sometimes full frontal) look at life, the universe and almost everything, from the art of accountancy to zapping a couple of jars of zythum down at the Giza Khufu Bar. If you want a witty riposte, ammunition for a speech or just a funny, thought-provoking read, then this is the book for you. If there are clever clogs you can never find a present for, then this is the book for them. You’re guaranteed to find something to make you laugh, shake your head in disbelief or nod it in recognition, or just reflect on the insane, inane, sometimes lethal and invariably comic world we all call home. It’s original, it’s funny, sometimes wise, sometimes groan-making – but mostly, The Little Read Book is all about having fun with words and ideas.

This book was released on 2019-05-11 with total page 93 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Version 2.0 (2023). Much like Chairman Mao's compilation of zany one-liners published during Communist China's Cultural Revolution back in the day, this little red book is an uproarious collection of madcap humor and senseless drivel dedicated to the countless enlightened leftists still inexplicably omnipresent in our world today. Filled with pun-ridden put-downs and wise-ass wordplay, this remarkable anthology offers unenlightened readers like yourself a thorough introduction into the baffling realm of leftist confusion and a refreshing alternative to the more conventional fare of lowbrow humor you are undoubtedly accustomed to. Your fancy will be tickled with jeering jibes and sarcastic swipes taken at the expense of the leftist elites who rule over us in relentless pursuit of a more progressive and enlightened new world order. But just who are these enlightened leftists of the enlightened left, you ask? I’m glad you did. Enlightened leftists are those who believe that man is “perfectible” (woman too, if we stick to two genders). They believe in equality in a world in which equality does not and cannot exist (there is no equality in nature). They are the ones who always have the “solutions” to our problems, most of these problems being the direct or indirect result of one of their previous enlightened leftist solutions. The enlightened left are the all too optimistic and the all too naïve with the all too good intentions who seem to be the only ones unaware that the road to Hell is paved with good intentions. They are also unaware of their inherent limitations as human beings. They refuse to recognize that we are simply not able to fully understand all the ramifications of our simplest actions, much less the ambitious enlightened leftist reforms they have and repeatedly tried and will try again to introduce. They are rationalists whose reason is not sufficiently able to point out the limitations of their reason. In other words, they are the nannies, the pro-collectivist, the anti-self-reliant, the redistributors and the interventionists who have become so intrusive in our lives today. They can’t accept the idea of government as a system of negation within which individuals can freely develop on their own under the rule of law (a “don't do this, don't do that” model). Enlightened leftists insist that government actively intervene in our lives (a “do this, do that” model), always open for the next “solution” that 1) never delivers the results promised and 2) creates new problems due to the inevitable Law of Unintended Consequences. Enlightened leftists are paternal. They are autocratic. They are above the law because what they do is for “the greater good” that they define. They believe that the ends justify the means. They are the people who say, “we are from the government and are here to help.” The enlightened left are those who refuse to leave the rest of us alone. Although not famous for their sense of humor (telling others how to live their lives and what to think is no laughing matter), enlightened leftists nevertheless provide us with a near endless source of comic delight. This little red book is a modest attempt to tap into that vital source. I hope you will enjoy reading it. I also hope you will remember to buy a few additional copies for your friends and family. I am told it makes a wonderful gift idea, perfect, even, for any perfect or near-perfect stranger you might unexpectedly bump into on the street. It is a very small book. This makes it very easy for you to carry several of them on your person. I carry three of them with me at all times, for instance. I am sitting on two right now as I write these very lines. In closing, please try to keep two things constantly in mind while reading: First of all, many if not most of the enlightened left mean well. Honestly. They really do. Secondly, the road to hell is paved with good intentions.

They appear to have everything anyone could want. As money pours in, their lives become more reckless. Passionate and dangerous, blind devotion leads Athena to the brink of her senses and her love is tested in ways that even she could not conceive of as a partner to Mason’s sexual voyeurism. When Athena faces motherhood, her desire for peace and her troubled past cannot be contained. While she finds herself retracing her mother’s steps, a path she swore she would never walk, Athena fails the ultimate test from Mason and she is plunged into a shame that she has never known. Athena suffers the peril of her own self destruction and she must turn inward. The little light that keeps exposing her deepest need, is also the guide for her most treacherous journey yet. How far will Athena go to worship the man she has promised herself to? Book 3 examines jealousy, infidelity, infertility, and the burden of obligations. Athena must make choices between the vision and the appearance versus the truth and the heartache; choices that will determine her ultimate destiny in their fiery tale.

Book excerpt: Perfect for dinner parties, dorm room conversations, discussions around the water cooler, and everything in-between, The Little Book of Big Ethical Questions presents some of our most thought-provoking ethical dilemmas in a welcoming, easy-to-discuss format. Does a child have the right to take away their elderly parent's car keys? Are you obligated to help your neighbor? Should police departments be allowed to use facial recognition technology? Should voting be mandatory? The best conversations are the ones that tackle the big, life-altering issues. Whether these conversations occur in dorm rooms, meetings, or around the dinner table, ethical quandaries make for compelling discussions. These questions allow us a moment to pause and consider: What would you have done? What's the context? Is there one correct answer? And ultimately--can ethics guide us to answer all these questions better? In The Little Book of Big Ethical Questions, Susan Liautaud, a renowned ethicist who consults clients worldwide from global corporations to NGOs, presents intriguing, useful questions in a clear, appealing way designed to encourage lively discussion. Liautaud explores how you might approach each dilemma, offering more context, so you have all the information you need to come to your own conclusion. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Author and journalist Gene Fowler put it best: “Writing is easy; all you do is sit staring at a blank sheet of paper until the drops of blood form on your forehead.” Anyone who has ever wanted or been required to create something more complicated than a shopping list or a Tweet knows there’s more truth than poetry in the observation. The process can be difficult, frustratingly so when we realize that although we use words all the time, coming up with the right ones can be a daunting task. Even the most celebrated writers have reflected on this creative process, and their observations and conclusions are collected in this book. The compiler, himself no stranger to a blank page or computer screen, has selected the wisest and wittiest utterances on such subjects as why we write (Ernest Hemingway: “I have a good life but I must write because if I do not write a certain amount I do not enjoy the rest of my life.”); how to write (Anton Chekhov: “Don’t tell me the moon is shining; show me the glint of light on broken glass.”); and writing for money (Cormac McCarthy: “I never had any doubts about my abilities. I knew I could write. I just had to figure out how to eat while doing this.”). It has been said that reading won’t make you a good writer, but it will make you a better writer. Dip into this lively and useful treasure trove, and you’ll be well on your way.

Book excerpt: A marvelous debut novel about love and basketball, time travel and rock'n'roll. Thirty years in the writing, Selden Edwards' dazzling first novel is an irresistible triumph of the imagination. Wheeler Burden-banking heir, philosopher, student of history, legend's son, rock idol, writer, lover, recluse, half-Jew, and Harvard baseball hero-one day finds himself wandering not in his hometown of San Francisco in 1988 but in a city and time he knows mysteriously well: Vienna, 1897. Before long, Wheeler acquires a mentor in Sigmund Freud, a bitter rival, a powerful crush on a luminous young woman, and encounters everyone from an eight-year-old Adolf Hitler to Mark Twain as well as the young members of his own family. Solving the riddle of Wheeler's dislocation in time will ultimately reveal nothing short of one eccentric family's unrivaled impact upon the course of human history. Edwards brilliantly weaves romance, art, sci-fi, history, and culture in this unforgettable debut novel. A great YA read for those looking for a true adventure!
