Book Synopsis Book of Wisdom by John Gill by : James J Maccabbee Company
Download or read book Book of Wisdom by John Gill written by James J Maccabbee Company and published by Xulon Press. This book was released on 2009-04 with total page 502 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: About the Author John Gill (1697 - 1771) was born in Kettering, Northamptonshire. In his youth, he attended Kettering Grammar School, mastering the Latin classics and learning Greek by age eleven. The young scholar also had a love for Hebrew which would follow him throughout his life. At about twelve years of age, Gill heard a sermon from his pastor, William Wallis, whose text came from Genesis 3:9, "And the Lord called unto Adam, and said unto him, where art thou?" He reflected often on the message of Wallis' sermon and it eventually led to his conversion. It was not until seven years later, however, that young John made a public profession of his faith in Christ, when he was almost nineteen years of age. His first pastoral work was as an intern at age twenty one, and he later became a pastor in Southwark, England. His pastorate lasted 51 years. Gill was an English Bible scholar, and a prolific writer who authored among other things, an expository commentary on the entire Bible. John Gill was a profound scholar whose ministry in some fashion still touches millions of people worldwide. About this Book Unlike human wisdom, the Book of Proverbs is of divine inspiration. The Book of Wisdom is presented as a devotional from John Gill's commentary on these Proverbs. Book of Wisdom is a tribute offered by the James J. MacCabbee Company to Pastor John Gills' lifetime of brilliant work. As Proverbs 8:1, "Doth not Wisdom cry?" This daily devotional is prepared for governmental leaders, leaders in the news and entertainment industries, clergy and laypersons; employees and employers; spouses, parents and children. In fact Wisdom is offered to "anyone who has ears to hear" (see Matthew 13:9). Those who receive such Wisdom as presented here will not be disappointed.

Book Synopsis The Book of Legends/Sefer Ha-Aggadah by : Hayyim Nahman Bialik
Download or read book The Book of Legends/Sefer Ha-Aggadah written by Hayyim Nahman Bialik and published by Schocken. This book was released on 1992-11-10 with total page 922 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first complete English translation of the Hebrew classic Sefer Ha-Aggadah brings to the English-speaking world the greatest and best-loved anthology of classical Rabbinic literature ever compiled. First published in Odessa in 1908-11, it was recognized immediately as a masterwork in its own right, and reprinted numerous times in Israel. The Hebrew poet Hayim Nahman Bialik and the renowned editor Yehoshua Hana Ravnitzky, the architects of this masterful compendium, selected hundreds of texts from the Talmud and midrashic literature and arranged them thematically, in order to provide their contemporaries with easy access to the national literary heritage of the Jewish people -- the texts of Rabbinic Judaism that remain at the heart of Jewish literacy today. Bialik and Ravnitzky chose Aggadah -- the non-legal portions of the Talmud and Midrash -- for their anthology. Loosely translated as "legends", Aggadah includes the genres of biblical exegesis, stories about biblical characters, the lives of the Talmudic era sages and their contemporary history, parables, proverbs, and folklore. A captivating melange of wisdom and piety, fantasy and satire, Aggadah is the expressive medium of the Jewish creative genius. The arrangement of this compendium reflects the theological concerns of the Rabbinic sages: the role of Israel and the nations; God, good and evil; human relations; the world of nature; and the art of healing. Here, the reader who wants to explore traditional Jewish views on a particular subject is treated to a selection of relevant texts at his fingertips but will soon become immersed in a way of thinking, exploring, and questioning that is the hallmark of Jewish inquiry. "Whatever the imagination can invent is found in the Aggadah," wrote the historian Leopold Zunz, "its purpose always being to teach man the ways of God." The Book of Legends/Sefer Ha-Aggadah, now available in william Braude's superbly annotated translation, enables modern Jews to experience firsthand the richness and excitement of their cultural inheritance.

Book Synopsis Wisdom from King Solomon by : Katherine Jo Howard
Download or read book Wisdom from King Solomon written by Katherine Jo Howard and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2006 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: WISDOM FROM KING SOLOMON (208 pages) is an enjoyable and easy to read reference book of King Solomon's invaluable wisdom. Proverbs of King Solomon, derived from the Holy Bible, have been organized into 150 different subjects making the wisdom inherent in each proverb much more easily accessed and assimilated. Also included is a description of King Solomon given by Tamrin the Merchant who was sent to Jerusalem by the Queen of Sheba, Queen of Ethiopia, original poetry, an essay and a glossary of uncommonly used words. Given in Wisdom From King Solomon are simple guidelines for living a happy and prosperous life, and enabling those around us to do the same. It is practical wisdom to be used in every day life, in all our dealings and interactions. It is a wonderful reference book which covers just about every subject. The wisdom shared within the pages of this book is important in these times especially. King Solomon's words, sweeter than honey and smoother than oil, express truths about natural laws of creation, based on patterns the natural world runs by, of which we are also a part of. When we, in our own lives, and in the lives of our communities and tribes, consider and live in accordance with these natural laws, then we become so very strong as a people, with the power of all creation backing us. It is only when we do not live within the laws of creation, that destruction starts to set in. The wisdom within this book has the power to create unconquerable people, tribes and communities. It basically outlines the ABCs of living in perfect and divine love with one another, which is truly the only law of creation. Happy is the man that finds wisdom, and the man that gets understanding. For the merchandise of it is better than the merchandise of silver, and the gain thereof than fine gold. She is more precious than rubies: and all the things the I can desire are not to be compared unto her. Length of days is in her right hand; and in her left hand riches and honor. Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace. She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her: and happy is every one that retains her. Over 150 different subjects, arranged alphabetically which include: Animals, Balance, Beauty, Brothers, Children, Diligence, The Faithful, Friends, Giving, Happiness, The Heart, Humility, Life, Love, The Most High, Prosperity, The Soul, Speaking, Truth, Understanding, Wisdom, & Youth.
