Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Lip Reading Dictionary contains approximately 10,500 words. It was compiled as a bi-product of the work done in preparation for the books "Lip Reading - a self-help textbook," "How to make Animations for lip reading practice," "Think like a lip reader with Great Expectations," and "Word Puzzles for lip reading students." The selection of words to be translated into sequences of lip shapes followed no predetermined pattern but came about spontaneously as work on the above volumes proceeded. The result is the set of about ten and a half thousand words that go to make up this first edition. The book is organized as a look-up table like a foreign language phrase book - the first section is an alphabetical list of normally spelled words with the set of lip shapes seen by the lip reader, the second section listing the lip shape sequences in alphabetical order with the words they translate into for the lip reader. The dictionary will be of particular use to those engaged in designing lip reading puzzles and exercises as a supplement to the work done in lip reading classes and also to those creating animations for lip reading practice. You could also use it to check your solutions to the problems set out in the book "Word Puzzles for lip reading students" or to check your interpretations when reading the book "Think like a lip reader - with Great Expectations." The dictionary can also be used to find words that look the same as each other to the lip reader.
