Book Synopsis Radionuclide and Hybrid Bone Imaging by : Ignac Fogelman
Download or read book Radionuclide and Hybrid Bone Imaging written by Ignac Fogelman and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-01-03 with total page 1029 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, written by authors with national and international reputations in the field, covers all aspects of radionuclide and hybrid bone imaging. Introductory sections present the basic science and consider the current status and limitations of conventional radiological techniques. The underlying principles of PET-CT and SPECT-CT are carefully explained, and the value of different PET and SPECT tracers, assessed. The role of single- and dual-modality approaches in the imaging of benign bone diseases and malignancies is then discussed in detail in a series of well-illustrated chapters. The pathologies addressed include metabolic bone disease, arthritis, bone and joint infections, primary bone and soft tissue tumors, and metastases from breast and prostate cancer. A further section considers the role of bone scintigraphy in the pediatric patient, and the closing chapters focus on miscellaneous subjects, including bone densitometry and radionuclide targeted therapy.
Book Synopsis The Soft–Hard Tissue Junction by : Neil D. Broom
Download or read book The Soft–Hard Tissue Junction written by Neil D. Broom and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2018-11-29 with total page 810 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Richly illustrated throughout with actual tissue images, this innovative book shows that the soft-hard tissue junction is best understood in a biomechanical context. The authors describe their pioneering experimental methods, providing an essential structure-function framework for computational modelling, and thereby encouraging the development of more realistic, predictive models of this important tissue junction. Covering the three main musculoskeletal junctions of cartilage-bone, disc-vertebra, and ligament/tendon-bone, the relevant soft tissues are examined with respect to both their own inherent structure and their mode of integration with the hard tissue. The soft-hard tissue interface is explored with a focus on structural damage resulting from overloading, and its associated pathologies. Adopting a multiscale approach, ranging in structural resolution from the macro to fibril levels, this is a must-have guide to the field and an ideal resource for researchers seeking new and creative approaches for studying the joint and spine tissues.

Book Synopsis The Feminist War on Crime by : Aya Gruber
Download or read book The Feminist War on Crime written by Aya Gruber and published by Univ of California Press. This book was released on 2020-05-26 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many feminists grapple with the problem of hyper-incarceration in the United States, and yet commentators on gender crime continue to assert that criminal law is not tough enough. This punitive impulse, prominent legal scholar Aya Gruber argues, is dangerous and counterproductive. In their quest to secure women’s protection from domestic violence and rape, American feminists have become soldiers in the war on crime by emphasizing white female victimhood, expanding the power of police and prosecutors, touting the problem-solving power of incarceration, and diverting resources toward law enforcement and away from marginalized communities. Deploying vivid cases and unflinching analysis, The Feminist War on Crime documents the failure of the state to combat sexual and domestic violence through law and punishment. Zero-tolerance anti-violence law and policy tend to make women less safe and more fragile. Mandatory arrests, no-drop prosecutions, forced separation, and incarceration embroil poor women of color in a criminal justice system that is historically hostile to them. This carceral approach exacerbates social inequalities by diverting more power and resources toward a fundamentally flawed criminal justice system, further harming victims, perpetrators, and communities alike. In order to reverse this troubling course, Gruber contends that we must abandon the conventional feminist wisdom, fight violence against women without reinforcing the American prison state, and use criminalization as a technique of last—not first—resort.
Book Synopsis Handbook of Histology Methods for Bone and Cartilage by : Yuehuei H. An
Download or read book Handbook of Histology Methods for Bone and Cartilage written by Yuehuei H. An and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2003-05-01 with total page 582 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Histotechnology and histomorphometry are the major methodologies in bone and cartila- related research. Handbook of Histology Methods for Bone and Cartilage is an outgrowth of the editors’ own quest for information on bone and cartilage histology and histomorphometry. It is designed to be an experimental guide for personnel who work in the areas of basic and clinical bone and cartilage, orthopedic, or dental research. It is the first inclusive and organized reference book on histological and histomorphometrical techniques on bone and cartilage specimens. The topic has not previously been covered adequately by any existing books in the field. Handbook of Histology Methods for Bone and Cartilage has six major parts and is designed to be concise as well as inclusive, and more practical than theoretical. The text is simple and straightforward. Large numbers of tables, line drawings, and micro- or macro-photographs, are used to help readers better understand the content. Full bibliographies at the end of each chapter guide readers to more detailed information. A book of this length cannot discuss every method for bone and cartilage histology that has been used over the years, but it is hoped that major methods and their applications have been included.
Book Synopsis Bone Mechanics by : Stephen C. Cowin
Download or read book Bone Mechanics written by Stephen C. Cowin and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1989 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This informative volume summarizes what is known about bone mechanics. It describes the methods used to acquire that knowledge and suggests the nature of future research on this topic. This easy-to-read book keeps mathematical notation simple and minimal and presents data in summary form. Bone Mechanics is concerned with the mechanical behavior and functional stress adaptation of whole bones as structural elements, the mechanical behavior and functional adaptation of bone tissue as material, and the physiological significance of the mechanical properties of bone and the biological response of bone to applied stress. Orthopaedic surgeons, dentists, anatomists, biologists, biomedical engineers and physiologists are among those who will find this volume to be of interest.
