Download or read book The Last Resort: Unarmored Grappling and Dagger Combat written by Hugh Knight and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2010-03-05 with total page 189 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first book in this series taught the use of the longsword, but medieval knights didn't always have a sword at hand when trouble struck so the ability to grapple and fight with daggers was crucial in their dangerous world. In this book you'll learn a unified system of grappling, with or without daggers, that includes sophisticated methods of breaking your opponent's balance, strikes and kicks, defensive techniques, locks, throws, chokes, ground fighting, and fighting with daggers or against a dagger-wielding foe when you're unarmed. You'll also learn how to read your opponent's intentions and use that information to overpower him easily. This book shows that grappling and dagger combat were part of the integrated whole that made up German medieval martial arts. NB: This is the perfect-bound edition.

Download or read book The Knightly Art of the Longsword written by Hugh Knight and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2010-01-15 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Johannes Liechtenauer, the father of German martial arts, created a system of combat that was second to none. Later authors wrote books detailing his art, some for earnest combat and others for a sportive version, that have survived to the present day. This book attempts to draw together the writings of various masters of Liechtenauer's school into a single, comprehensive source detailing the art of fighting in earnest. Not limited to a single author, nor to just the basics of the art, this book attempts to show the full range of Liechtenauer's art without mixing in any of the more sportive sources from later authors. In addition to the techniques themselves, The Knightly Art of the Longsword includes information on strategic concepts, fundamentals, equipment, finding a school, training, and even how to teach the art. NB: This is the perfect-bound edition.

Book Synopsis The Battle of Agincourt by : Anne Curry
Download or read book The Battle of Agincourt written by Anne Curry and published by Boydell Press. This book was released on 2000 with total page 494 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'Agincourt! Agincourt! Know ye not Agincourt?' So began a ballad of around 1600. Since the event itself (25 October 1415), Agincourt has occupied a special place in both English and French consciousness. Some early French writers could not bring themselves to mention it by name, using instead descriptions such as 'the accursed day'. For the English, it was one of the greatest military successes ever, and thus was celebrated and commemorated in many forms over the centuries which followed. In the First World War, there were stories of angelic Agincourt bowmen giving support and inspiration to the British army. Much ink has been spilt on the battle but do we really know Agincourt? Many historical works have relied on one or two well known sources or even on Shakespeare. Not since Harris Nicolas's History of the Battle of Agincourt was published (1827-33) has there been a full attempt to survey the sources. This book brings together, in translation and with commentary, English and French narrative accounts and literary works of the fifteenth century. It also traces the treatment of the battle in sixteenth -century English histories and in the literary output of, amongst others, Shakespeare and Drayton. After examining how later historians interpreted the battle, it concludes with the first full assessment of the extremely rich administrative records which survive for the armies which fought 'upon Saint Crispin's day'.

Book Synopsis Conan and the Spider God by : L. Sprague de Camp
Download or read book Conan and the Spider God written by L. Sprague de Camp and published by Macmillan. This book was released on 2003-06-16 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Conan is back, and at the top of his form! SFWA Grand Master L. Sprague de Camp was revered in the genre of fantasy for both his fiction and nonfiction. Booklist praised his novel The Honorable Barbarian, saying: "The action is brisk, and the worlds and characters are described with de Camp's deft, light touch . . . thoroughly agreeable entertainment," while Kirkus Reviews said of The Pixilated Peeress "the unassuming style and verve of the telling keep the pages turning. Pure prose junk-food." But more important, L. Sprague de Camp wrote Dark Valley Destiny, the definitive biography of Conan's creator, Robert E. Howard, leaving little wonder as to why Conan and the Spider God is considered one of the finest novels in the canon of Conan. Son of a blacksmith, a former slave and thief, Conan the Cimmerian has risen to the rank of Captain of the Royal Guard. But as usual, trouble is his bedfellow. Forced to kill while defending himself, Conan must flee the vengeance of the High Priest of Erlik. Foraging through field and forest, meeting friend and foe, Conan cuts a bloody swath through assassins and bounty hunters all the way to the sinister temple of Zath, where he encounters the huge and hideous Spider God. Facing certain death, Conan becomes both the hunter . . . and the hunted. Conan and the Spider God is a thrilling adventure of the mighty barbarian, from one of the genre's most revered authors.
